I wonder if someone knows how the auctions in IRE games work, because I've never participated in one before.
Do you have to be present?
Do you bid in increasing value until no more bids are made?
Are there usually multiple items of the same sort for auction?
Can you bid for more than one item?
Is there going to be a lottery or raffle for those poor souls without credits?

Generally the way it works is a list of items are published. You provide a proxy or message one of the Gods your bidding strategy if you will not be present. For instance, I bid on the Astral Circlet up to 1000 credits. They bid in your name. Whomever wins generally has 24 hours to cough up the credits or they're toasty.
A lottery is a good idea, I"ll suggest it.

Are the items up and viewable?

I just hope it doesn't turn into every other IRE auction. First bid is made by some rich pain in the arse for 10 million gold and then only those who have hoarded gold or bought tons of OOC credits and sold them can participate.
Nothing annoyed me more then going to an auction with my million gold or couple of hundred thousand and getting outbid before the bidding even started.

Auction bidding instructions.
1) Message Gregori I will be sending you 1000 credits to bid for me.
2) Send Gregori 1000 credits.
3) Gregori bids on items and wins.
4) Forget that you sent Gregori 1000 credits and an auction ever existed.

Lotteries are the most evil thing. You get the same exact thing happening as Kidchex commented on. Someone with 10 million gold buys up 1000 tickets and stacks the lottery in their favour.
Lotteries would be good if you make it fair in that you can only buy 1 ticket period.

Or some reasonable number, like 10 or 50, to give people who want to have more of a chance a way of having more of a chance on some things, but not making it so only the rich people matter.
Gregori2005-10-06 17:11:54
If you want a completely fair lottery you make it 1 ticket each. Everyone can afford 1 ticket, not everyone can afford 10 or 50 tickets, and you don't have people upset because "they would have had a better chance if not everyone bought 50 tickets and they could only afford 2." It puts everyone int the lottery on a level field and you have the same chance to win as the next person. If you want a better chance to get to win something that is what the auctions are for.
Unknown2005-10-06 17:19:26
Yeah, only 1 ticket.
Ekard2005-10-06 17:29:41
Yea!
Only 1 ticket please!
Only 1 ticket please!
Raezon2005-10-06 19:54:41
Okay got it, lottery with only one ticket!
Raezon has been declared the winner of the lottery with ticket number 1 of 1!
More seriously though, again an interesting idea. The ticket's would probably be a little more expensive though. However, all the people with lots of money could donate to the little kids to buy a ticket.

In our efforts to bring you new and exciting things, I give you
AUCTIONS.
This system will be how We will the auction that was previously
canceled. The items We mentioned will still be auctioned off, but using
this new system.
The system is fairly simple in how it works, and give everyone an equal
chance to bid. Here are some of the major points you should know about
it:
1. You must have the gold or credits on hand to bid.
2. You can bid as high as you want. The system will set your current bid
at the lowest level, and continue to bid for you until someone goes over
your maximum bid.
3. When you bid, your gold/credits will be placed into escrow. This
means you will not have the gold or credits to spend. If you are outbid,
you will be refunded. In the case of the winner, you will recieve the
difference between your maximum bid and the winning bid.
4. You can bid at any time during the auction, which gives everyone time
to bid if they wish to do so.
5. You CANNOT retract a bid once it is made.
HELP AUCTIONS will explain each command.
