But.. how does a mugwump tank anything worth killing? Even with forcefield they have pitiful charisma.
Not sure how Kaervas bashed Catacombs to titan..

Not hard to get 4-5k health as an 80+ mugwump. That's all you really need.

Melanchthon is modest, but there is no doubt that he hunts faster than anyone, by far. It's not even close. The problem is getting him away from the dang forge long enough to actually hunt.

With a life blessing I break 4k but I don't last a second in the Catacombs. Am I doing something wrong here?
Ixion2005-10-07 00:30:32
Knowing how to hunt there is key. I have huge health and I still have to be careful and methodic, not just running around attacking all over the place.
Ceren2005-10-07 01:05:58
Guess that makes me a n00b. Darn.

Heh, I'm not in the running, he wants just non-artifact builds. With artifacts, however, knights do become the most effective hunters.
Shryke2005-10-07 01:37:13
what artifacts make knights better for bashing...? As far as I know they can only really effect pvp..

Critical hit amulet type things would help. So would the damage/speed improvements for their weapons, to make them bigger than normally possible. The precision and elemental/magic changes wouldn't help any, though. And health regen things always help too.

You've hit it exactly. Critical hits and weapon stat runes, though the later are only needed by some weapon builds, not all.

I really don't know much about other classes, but I'm personally a merian aquamancer with no artifacts, and have had decent success hunting. The downside is that I didn't hit 3k health until level 80, but I can kill things quick
From what I know, if you want easy but slow, knights are what you want due to their health and armour. If you want fast but dangerous, perhaps mages.

So your what you are all saying is that even at higher levels it will still take me forever to kill things.
Hajamin2005-10-07 02:48:03
Yes... Sorry, My bad. I thought it would be more interesting if things were actually... challenging?
Unknown2005-10-07 02:59:42
Don't forget that Mugwumps can shield/cast reflect at incredible speed, thus negating all enemy attacks if timing is good. You can hunt most whatever you want whenever you want, if you know how (saying this from experience)

For bashing later on, being a Mag or Glom has its advantages. Astral still may be dead by then and that leaves only the Catacombs as a reasonable bashing area which is patrolled by the Ur'guard. Hopefully some new areas will be added soon, but for now, higher level bashing is just about restricted to Mag and Glom. (Yes I know I'm not actually stopped mechanically by Mag from going in, but that's the way things play now.)
Kaervas2005-10-07 07:35:15
I have 6.3k ego to tank with as a mugwump. And Shiro, I wouldn't say Aesyra had the hard route at all, she had Astral the whole time.
Asarnil2005-10-07 07:47:25
For sheer tankiness I would say Igasho ur'Guard with trans resilience and a L2 health regen ring. L3 health regen means you can keep putrefaction up indefinitely without sipping, L2 cutting/blunt protection, 20+ con, 21+ strength at night, pair of really good broadswords or really fast rapiers and you will bash nearly as fast as a mage, just because you won't have to worry about dying as much as they do, and if by some freak coincidence you do die, you will lich for 0 xp loss and can run to an empty room. If you can afford a mana regen ring, then you can add in boosted regeneration without a worry, and if you run out of willpower you can either lich to regain it or sit in the ur'Guard willpower regen room.

Wiccans are amazingly good mid-level bashers, with Nymph and Sprite, Moondancers a bit better than Shadowdancers because of Mother (passive healing). Drawdown gives amazingly good defence and +1 int, and a really nice bashing attack, Moonburst. However, their best asset really is Nymph, which only helps against non-aggressive denizens, and the highest level things to bash (Astral critters, things in the Catacombs, Kaervas, etc), are all aggressive. Well, except for Manifestations and Niara, but Manifestations are few and far between, and Niara can't be pacified by a Nymph. So, I wouldn't call Wiccans the best HIGH level bashers, though they still certainly aren't bad at bashing. Drawdown damage reduction IS nice, and never ever needing to worry about mana is also nice. Astrology buffs can be REALLY helpful as well, giving +2 to int or con, and +20% damage reduction on a good day.
Oh, and I have no idea what the Shadowdancer equivilent of Drawdown gives, but it's probably really nice for bashing too.
You're probably better off as a magi mugwump with telekinetics, or a druid for the reasons Munsia listed (no xp loss is nice), or an ur'guard with necromancy for lich and tankiness, but I wouldn't know.

At level 65, bashing Krokani, I can bash without needing any vials. Mother and a post fight Waxing keep me at full health, sprite keeps my mana full, and I just restore if I get broken limbs (from sharks and such). Nymph makes anything not aggro incredibly easy to bash.

Okay, so we came down to magi, druids and warriors. Now a bunch of questions about each :)
1) Mugwumps are damn fast, deal good damage and have chance to shield/reflect/run if needed. The only drawback is low tankiness. What about Merian Aquamancers? Does incredible intelligence compensate slow eq? Lucidians seem good, but that blunt damage weakness and just 14 int. Viscanti Geo has 14 con, 15 int, resistances and regen while in taint. But that sip penalty... What I mean is that there's nothing more important than mugwump fast eq, right? So if you're mage, you go mugwump, that's it.
2) Elfen druids will have very high int, mugwump druids will have very high speed. But I'm not sure if any kind of druid can deal damage comparable to mage's staffcast. Yeah, a lot of bashing friendly abilities, but I treat druids like something between high-damage-fragile-magi and low-damage-adamant-warriors. Is that right?
3) Ah, warriors. I came from Achaea, you remember? :) Nice to see knights rock. Two main questions here. First, there's no difference for bashing what specialization I choose, right? Second, wow, I just can't decide on the race. Krokani, Igasho, Orclach - I like all of them. And I cant' forget about the tae'dae. 17 con + sip bonus + resistances is not enough to overcome slow balance? And damage seems to be really good.
Don't forget: lev80+ :)
P.S. By the way, we have five titans, right? What class/race are they?
