Stupidity pet? Wow. I'd love a bottomless health vial, but I'm never going to be able to afford anything, so I'll just trans Hexes and maybe get Contemplate.
Thorgal2005-10-07 09:04:34
I'd rather have bottomless vials as standard artifacts for purchase, it'd be a nice feature to counter the crippling shortage of alchemists.
With the achaean rajamala serpentlord I've been playing on lately while I wait for some refills in Lusternia, I just walk to Seasone, get my vials refilled and continue bashing, here I have to wait 30 hours for an alchemist to show up before I can do anything at all. Especially since Viravain chased all my alchemists out of Glomdoring.

Agreed- a lot of people would spend credits on them.

That arti would be rediculous. We'd never see an increase in alchemists.
Viravain didn't chase them away - they so chose to oppose her, not her them.

We don't see one now either do we? Obviously great need isn't enough to attract people to alchemy, and there's still all the purgatives, salves and elixirs to refill, just some people would have unlimited health, mana or bromide.
And you can bet many people would spend a lot of credits on it.
Unknown2005-10-07 11:54:56
Actually i think Alchemy isn't popular because for people to buy from you, they usually want you to have trans, if they dont, you usually dont have enough gold to pay for the herbs, if they do have the herbs, the price they ask for usually is too much so people dont buy from you. So unless you have friends who'll go strip the herbs your pretty much screwed alchemy wise.
Ohh and if they provide the herbs, most people expect to get them for free.

That bottomless health vial has me daydreaming about how nice that'd be. The mana and bromides, eh, I never use a mana vial (twirling staff gets me over 1000 mana back, didn't even have a mana vial until I had to spar a Celestine, heh), and I don't use bromides much. Then again, even if I did have the credits to buy the health vial, I'd probably get forcefield in a few days and need the bromides
Thorgal2005-10-07 15:09:34
I can make a little prediction too though, as long as alchemy isn't readily available, our playerbase will never, ever grow large. There's been so many people from Achaea, Aetolia and Imperian already that quit Lusternia as a newbie, after having to wait real days and days just for a few refills.
Though bottomless vials might attract some bigger credit-spenders.

Bottomless bromide vials and mathematics: 200 gold per refill. At most 5 refills a day. Assume playing 5 days a week. Assume playing 40 weeks a year. That's 1,000 refills, 200,000 gold. Assume credits at 4,000 each. Assume playing for 2 years. The bromide vial is worth 100 credits at MOST. Four times that for health. I never EVER use mana except when fighting guardians, so I have no clue what I'd value that at.

The issue isn't how much you pay for refills, the issue is being able to get refills at all.
Our lack of a Seasone is so crippling to our playerbase, that I can barely believe the divine don't see this. It's so obvious it hurts me just thinking about it.

They see it, and yeah, its a pain, but I'm sort of glad we don't, just because there would be even fewer alchemists out there. In achaea, I very rarely asked another player for refills, because Seasone was 10x easier. If you're desperate enough, there is always Bob.

In my experience, this is almost entirely wrong. I've only once lost a sale for not being trans. People can't afford to be picky, this isn't Achaea where trans concoctionists are a dime a dozen. I hardly ever even answer market asking for an alchemist, and I still have this, since I've been tracking:

That's with adept Alchemy.
And really Thorgal, it doesn't matter at all if you still need purgatives and such. Without health, mana, and bromide refills, Alchemy barely makes any money. To compare, I sold 154 health refills, and 1 each of sanguine, phlegmatic, and choleric.
Narsrim2005-10-07 17:33:46
I find alchemy to be annoying to use as a trade skill. First, the profits suck. At best, you are going to be making ~125 gold per vial once you factor out the herbs. To top it off, I've had people come in and want 30-60 health refills. That's 240-480 galingale gone instantly.
Galingale may be sold at 10 gold per plant, but I've -never- been able to find anywhere near 240-480 galingale in Celest and Serenwilde combied. The only way to feasibly replace that much is to find a crazy herbalist who harvests all the time - and I think they are as rare as alchemists.
Furthermore, I bash when I can. In the Catacombs, I can make -far- more than 125 gold per health vial I use so I have no reason to actually sell them. Alchemy is very convient to me and using it, I can make more profit for myself by just having acess to refills when I need them than I could if I sold them.

I'd be willing to bet a lot that you'd find it easily if you actually asked. Heck, I had a newbie who learned capable herbs and harvested some 1500 galingale in half an hour. Or, alternatively, check the ads, at least one of which shows galingale amounts in the thousands.

i know at any given time when i was active in lusternia, i would need at least 20 refills of random vials and would be asking over market for days for refills, it gets annoying, so if those vials even if they were just restricted to health, mana, and bromide, i would definilty buy one of each. although for those who do buy them, they should suffer a increased endurance/willpower drain dependant on their archtype, so they wouldn't be able to bash with out ever stopping, otherwise those vials would just unbalance the game even more then it already is.
