Alrighty. I'm 13% short of fabled in healing and I've been considering switching to hexes. I'll have about 95-125 lessons to put back into Hexes plus whatever I have the pool after forgetting healing. My question being is the switch worth it? Alternatively should I just continue working on healing until I transcend it and learn Bedevil?
Ekard2005-10-07 19:25:55
I was Celestine healer and healing was useless in PvP or maybe i was just to pathefic to use it properly.
Narsrim2005-10-07 20:09:45
Unless you plan on being a hardcore combatant, I would suggest sticking with Healing. The most viable hex for Moondancers (anorexia) is 75% mythical in Hexes... so it basically sucks until you are trans.
Bedevil, however, is sweet and quite unrated. I used to sip poisons and then bedevil.. and I killed just about everyone using this in conjuction of other techniques.

Well so far from the people I've talked too the only one who told me to stick with healing is Narsrim. Everyone vs The Moondancer authority on Combat. That's a tough decision.
Ashteru2005-10-07 20:28:56
Couldn't you sip crotamine, wait until the last message and then bedevil? Ordoes it reset the timer?
Corr2005-10-07 20:30:47
He didn't say stick with healing...
He said stick with healing if your not going to be able to to get 75% myth in Hexes.

To note I'm not a raider and not very skilled. I fight mainly in defense and in arena events. Being an herbalist I rarely use healing except to cure breaks or blindness when hunting. I like healing but it seems a little lacking.

He said to stick with it right there. I am not a harcore combatant. The frequency of my partaking in combat is completely dependent on the frequency of Wargames and raids against the Seren.
No matter which one I go with I will eventually trans it. It may take a while but I will trans it.
Healing just seams woefully underpowered comparatively. I am probably not informed enough to make that decision tho'.
Ekard2005-10-07 20:46:34
In that case i would stay by healing.
You dont need to use potions or herb to heal. And healing from afar could be nice too.

Healing has some superior advantages that most people don't realize.
1. Deep Heal is insane. You should never get a sliced tendon, beheaded, etc. The reason I kept Healing for so long was because of this being so damn nice.
2. Bedevil is very nice if you don't have a perfect system when it comes to healing. At any given time, you can shed 3-4 afflictions with a chance of giving them to your opponent for no power (albeit 1,000 mana but for a Moondancer/Shadowdancer, that's nothing to be overly concerned with as we heal mana better than anyone). Furthermore, the afflicts it gives are "hidden." I found it rather easy to give a target stupidity with it so I could sneak in aeon.
3. Heal is better than it used to be. It converts ego to health. If you have high ego (such a High Elfen), you can heal a massive amount of health by burning ego quickly.
4. With Healing, I could cure a statue/totem in under 2 seconds at a cost of 1400 mana (which is well worth it for such a quick cure).
5. It is cheap to use! Nothing takes power to use.
==============================================
It really just depends on how you fight. As a dwarf Moondancer with Healing, I was uber uber tanky. I couldn't take down anyone in a flash, but they couldn't take me down either. In the long run, I normally could wear them down enough to get them.
As a Mugwump with Hexes, my endurance to stand and fight is gone. I try to draw my hexes and hinder the crap out of someone before they can do anything serious to me and if that fails, I normally have to vine whore them or run (usually healing wounds), regain power, and try again. It really isn't that bad as I can get most people on the first chance, but it does have drawbacks.

I despised healing. Admittedly I never really used deepheal properly, but I just found I really couldn't take them down with bedevil (which always left me with venoms, but I'm told there's a special trick to avoid that, I just don't know what it is), waning, sleep and lash. Then again moonburst isn't an option for me where it is for a High Elfen.
I really advise taking hexes. It's gotta be more fun than fighting with healing, anyway. But Narsrim's right in that you gotta get anorexia in hexes to do much of any good with them. Healing you only need, what, deepheal? To have 80% of the thing's potential. (Mania and bedevil make up the last bit.)
Note that my knowledge of healing is out of date, though, because when I last saw it a few abilities were bugged and we didn't have any of this new-fangled psionics stuff (is there anything in it that cures burst vessels or whatever? )

Nothing cures burst vessels apart from the normal cure (health vial) and dying. Not even Trueheal.
Ethelon2005-10-08 01:50:21
Stick with Healing... by far the better for you and easier to use once you get Bedevil. Hexes are not so easy as many people find out and it takes ALOT of power in long fights when you are being offensive.
Sylphas2005-10-08 23:53:45
Yeah, pretty much Hexes is for hardcore fighters. Healing is much better for bashing and general usefulness, Astrology even is much more handy outside of a fight. Hexes require much more work to use properly, and as a base eq race, they're nothing special. Bedevil is very very fun to play around with, even if you're not using it offensively so much as just to dump your afflictions. And if you are, even if you sip every poison and bedevil, get stuck with 3 or 4 afflicts, Full will have you perfectly fine again.
Dumihru2005-10-09 16:01:24
Not to mention that the room limit on hexes restricts their usefulness when fighting in a group that contains other hex users. If there are too many hexers, then you might not be able to use the entire skillset for the duration of the fight. You're much better off with healing in that case.
Sylphas2005-10-09 23:06:50
Yep. Steal isn't worth the power, really, so anyone can just fill the room with fear hexes and shut down the whole damn skillset for everyone. It would be nice if Hexaura could bypass that somehow, it would give it an added bonus, since disallowing Whammy and Doublewhammy really hurts the skill. Make it so you can hex from your aura or the room, but not both, so you can't throw out a 12 hex Allhex or something.
