My Halo triple pack arrived the other day, and I have TES: Oblivion and Perfect Dark Zero on preorder. I'll be there for the midnight release.

You're pathetic. I'll buy it around christmas, when it's got a discount, and claim it's for a nephew or something. They tend to give discounts to that crap.
Then I'll never sleep again.
Then I'll never sleep again.

You really think that after one month And the Christmas season that they're going to go down in price??

DISCOUNT? The Xbox is already coming out the second to last week in November. You'll have to get lucky at Gamestop because at the one I'm workin' at the second week reserves are already taken, and with Christmas coming around your best bet is if they overstock, and even then the price isn't going to go down until the PS3 comes out. (Well, actually.. your best bet is having someone who works there buy it used because they'll get the additional 15% off as well as the amount deducted from it being used)
Personally, I wouldn't even buy it until sometime in the Spring when the real games come out. The ones coming out now are just like.. rereleases of old stuff or slightly modified newbies.

Mmhmm. There's a good number of original stuff coming out soon, and the ones that are sequels or whatnot (Oblivion, Gotham 3, etc) are going to be a Lot better.

Yeah. I might actually buy one eventually for those games, especially since I've never played the games prior to Oblivion. In the mean time I could always rent out older games at work as time passes.
Richter2005-11-05 08:02:03
Oblivion has apparently been moved back to December. Guess that gives me time to play the other games though.

I have the original Xbox, and I am definitely NOT going to go pony up $400 for a 360. I am frankly dubious about the 360 hype. I have this bad gut feeling about the system. I can't figure out why they had to remove the built-in hard drive from the system, which was the main feature that made the Xbox a nicer system than the PS2.
I'm going to make this prediction that the first people who buy the Xbox are going to end up beta-testing it. Among the problems I am concerned about:
The wireless controllers not working as well as promised, due to interferance with wireless Internet or cordless phones.
-Problems with the removeable hard drive.
-Lack of games that utilize the increased processing power.
-High expense of system and games.
-"Virtual" backwards compatibility is iffy and probbably won't work well at all (and it is done on a PER GAME basis!!! What was Microsoft thinking!!!)
-Other glitches and quirks I am not forseeing here.
And personally, I am happy with my Xbox. There's a point at which upgrading is simply not really needed for a better experience. How much "better" can graphics get...I'm simply interested in decent game play and having fun with my friends.
I think the price for the 360 is totally ridiculous (consoles used to be for KIDS for pete's sake, and I'm a grown up and can't justify the expense). I am waiting for the PS3 to come out, which I am sure will cost less. Since I do not have a PS2, I will probably buy the PS3, which has built-in backwards compatibility for ALL games, and also has Final Fantasy, which I've been meaning to finish ever since I played it with my ex-boyfriend (we broke up before I finished it).
At some point, the prices on both systems will drop. Once that happens and the 360 glitches are worked out (thanks overzealous gamers for buying it first!), THEN and ONLY THEN will I buy a 360.
Until then, I am looking forward to the price of all my plain vanilla Xbox games to drop considerably, giving me lots to look forward to.
:-)

They did it so they could say they had a $300 system. You know why? People idiots still expect to pay $300 for what's considered a small computer. I talked to the manager of the game store over here, and EVERY one of the orders is for the $400 one.

I'm going to argue that, but oh well.

I've never heard of this, I heard they were amazing. 6 days till we see.
-Problems with the removeable hard drive.
Still never heard this. Where are ya getting these?
-Lack of games that utilize the increased processing power.
Did any of the other systems fully ultilize the power at -release-? Give it a bit of time for everyone to adjust to the next gen. At least it -has- power, don't worry yet about it -using- the power.
-High expense of system and games.
I can see that you're not a serious gamer. Clue: THESE GAMES TAKE ELEVEN MILLION DOLLARS TO MAKE. We're -going- to be paying $400 for a system, and we're -going- to pay $60 for a game. It costs Microsoft something like $500 to make the units anyway! Wait till PS3 comes out at $400, and watch the shocked looks from the people who whined about the xbox. Didn't N64 come out at $300 too? It's time for the upgrade boyo.
-"Virtual" backwards compatibility is iffy and probbably won't work well at all (and it is done on a PER GAME basis!!! What was Microsoft thinking!!!)
Again, wait till PS3 doesn't have complete backwards compatability. And by the way, just because they both run on disks doesn't mean they HAVE to be backwards compatable. Your N64 doesn't run super NES games, now does it?
-Other glitches and quirks I am not forseeing here.

As better as real. But as I said, you don't look like a serious gamer, so if you don't want to buy one and you want to hang out with your friends anyway... do so. I know lots of guys that don't play games. Join them, if you wish. Just don't complain about them if you're not going to play them.

Your lack of knowledge of the industry stuns me, but I'll let it pass. I'll reiterate. The Xbox 360 is a SMALL COMPUTER. Wah, my laptop cost me $2000.

Yes, eventually they will drop. I bought my PS2 a year after the system came out. *shrug*

Doubt it. Surely they would know enough about wireless controllers that have already been made. Would they scrap current wireless controllers and re-invent the wheel?
-Problems with the removeable hard drive.
Possible
-Lack of games that utilize the increased processing power.
Not from what I've seen, some look quite impressive
-High expense of system and games.
Ugh, yeah, know what you mean. Not much more then current new games though. Some games are staying at $50, but I've seen a few at $60. If you can pay $50, $60 isn't too much more painful
-"Virtual" backwards compatibility is iffy and probbably won't work well at all (and it is done on a PER GAME basis!!! What was Microsoft thinking!!!)
I think the list of backwards compatability capable games is somewhere around 200. I think I've heard something somewhere of games actually looking better on the xbox 360 then they did on the current xbox. Or maybe it was just Halo 2. Or maybe I'm crazy.

I doubt PS3 will cost less. PS2 used to cost the same as the xbox. $300. Harsh. I can't see PS3 going less then xbox 360 unless they really skimped out on the good stuff

"I can see you're not a serious gamer." What the HECK is that supposed to mean? Is that some sort of not-so-veiled insult? What do I need to do to "qualify" to be a so-called "serious gamer"?? Play video games 10 hours a day until my fingers bleed?
Honey, I've been playing video games since...oh gee, 1980. I remember playing the original Bard's Tale on an 8088 computer. (I'm 35 BTW.) I still OWN my Sega Genesis, it works, and I still play it on occasion since it's fun.
There is such a vast array of video games that I can play at any time in any particular format. PC games, console games, Xbox, Playstation, games on my cellphone for pete's sake.
Just because I don't want to dole out $400 freakin' dollars for an XBOX doesn't mean I am NOT A "SERIOUS" GAMER. What that means is I have PLENTY of game-play left in the platforms I already have. (Including Xbox, PC, handheld devices, and oh yeah, my Sega Genesis.)
You'd think by posting my concerns over the 360, which has yet to be actually out in use, I am some sort of video game traitor. Yeesh. All I'm saying is, I want to wait and see what sort of bugs this thing has and wait for the price to come down.
Besides, one of my best friends and gaming buddy is buying it, so I'll just go over and play it his place. As for being all sad and jealous that I won't have one??? Ummm no.
Oh boo hoo, sure I'm going to be crying when I get home and don't have a 360 here....ummm....NOT....because hell, I still have to get past the newbie level in Lusternia for one thing. I have other games to play! Lusternia and Lusternia alone could take up all of my free time. Really.
BUT I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING!! OH NO!!! OHMYGOD...THERE AREN'T ANY "COOL" GRAPHICS ON LUSTERNIA!!! I GUESS THAT MEANS I AM NOT A "SERIOUS" GAMER!!! WAAAAHHH!!!
Excuse me for being so freakin' sarcastic, but c'mon. We're talking MICROSOFT here. These are the people that built in a damn exploding cable into the original Xbox, OK? (Yes, I was one of theose who had to go and order my new powerplug from them...)
I'll believe the hype when I see it. But don't insult me just because I'm not all gaga-eyed and I have better things to do than stand in line at midnight or drop $400 on yet another console system, when I have PLENTY of games I'm playing already and already don't have time to finish.
I had more time for these things when I was in college. Now I am in the real world, busting my ass to make a living and I've got only so much time in my day to play. That's the breaks, I suppose. But don't harsh on me because of it. It's not necessarily a badge of honor to be playing video games all the time anyway!
So I would prefer if we keep to the subject - Xbox 360 vs. Lusternia - and not get all personal and judgmental on people for having an opinion on the consoles.
PS. Quite a few people are ticked off at Microsoft already since the list of "backwards compatible" games is missing some very important titles while including some schlock like Barbie's playhouse or some such nonsense. Like I said, I am waiting until this thing comes out and the bugs are worked through before spending a dime on it.

Err.. relax, people. It's just a lame XBOX. If someone doesn't want to buy it and wait for the PS3 then that's their life, just like you're wasting money buying the 360.
PS3's production costs are higher than the XBOX though, but it might add to the system's life. Microsoft is being SMART and marketing to the Japanese this time around so it may have some interesting games in the future, but I still stand by my claims that it's a waste to buy until January or so.
