It's really about usefulness of Gem of Cloaking.
Seems like the whole argument about scent comes from frustration because the gem is not as useful as some of you think it should.
Scent doesn't look overpowered from the looks of it (I don't have it but it's been described well through these 8 pages. ). The only thing I can come up with is that it should take balance. Scan doesn't but it doesn't tell the locations as well. Observe, for example, does.

And that's a great idea. If took balance, that'd be cool and it is a reasonable request.

You get on forums and post about abilities that you don't understand. You make statements like this: "Scent is the only ability that locates a target that has no defense." This is WRONG. There are other abilities that do. You simply just don't know about them - however, your ignorance is not justification that your arguments "make sense," when most of the time, you seem to piece together what an ability does from what is posted on forums instead of actually looking into it. Do your damn homework if you are going to comment.

I'm sorry, but it only takes a little bit of reading comprehension to see that none of you who dissagree with eachother are talking about the same issues. If there is some subtext that is not being openly voiced, it might be beneficial to try voicing them.
Only claims I have made about scent is that you don't need to target the specific people who have gems, while the other skills you have to first know the person's name, and that they might be a threat.

No. No. no.
You don't pay attention. There are OTHER abilities that detect people without informing them just like scent. Hex sense and Demesne watch are examples.

Not sure if this is the right thread (maybe someone should combine them) but isn't Astrosense available to communes? And isn't that the exact same as Scry or Window or whatever?
This is why you need a chart... put Hexsense and Demense watch on that chart and you can form more easily followed arguments.
