And we have 0 'alchemy' abilities in our skillsets. You can get both scry/window and scent, we cannot get scent.. I really don't understand how hard it is to understand this.

If I buy a Gem of Cloaking, I want to be able to enter an area without being able to be spotted immediately by the first best novice setting foot on that plane, and them knowing exactly what room I'm in as well.

So let me ask again, what is the point in buying that Gem, if any novice can immediately pin my presence and exact location without any effort? If a moondancer or druid had some skill up in wicca or druidry with some setup to see the location of everyone in the local area, I wouldn't mind. But we're talking every single person of the commune being able to exactly pinpoint everyone in an area without any cost.

How can you seriously argue this being fair?

Why not just ask a glomdoring Novice to skunk spray you. Novice skill, cancelled by a novice skill. Or go up and fight a Mitran for like two seconds. *shrug*

Yeah Ialie, that'd be a good suggestion, but you're like the only one that would agree.

Because that makes you smelly, and easier to scent?

Then I suggest you don't buy a gem of cloaking because the only it is *supposed* to do is remove you from who/bw/qw. If you are suggesting that it do more, than you should create an ideas thread about it - but as of now, there is no intent for the gem of cloaking to protection against any location detecting ability.

And wtf? Scan detects LOCAL AREA -not- ENTIRE PLANE.
Narsrim2005-10-10 21:47:55
And I have novices farscout whore me all the time. I cry foul. Boo. They are novices, they shouldn't be able to do that *roll*
Narsrim2005-10-10 21:50:38
Furthermore, for everyone who has a gem of cloaking that is utterly destroyed that it doesn't protect them against scent, I suggested using escrow to bid on the magical shovel. Your useless gem can be traded in for an artifact that lets you bury your trash deep deep down - imagine the potential.
Gregori2005-10-10 21:53:27
Do you even know what you have for skills or do you just get an idea in your head and decide that is the ultimate truth?

Rituals
Laetitia Heal the ego. - Bromide
Puella Heal the body. - Health
Amissio Absorb the mental energy of others. - Mana
Puer Heal specific body parts. - Apply Health

Tarot
Healer Heal yourself or others in the radiance of Dionamus. - Health
Magician Replenish your mana with the might of the Magician. - Mana

Athletics
Regeneration Regain health through strength of mind. - Health
Transmute Instantly convert mana into health. - More Health

Now I won't argue that these skills are as good as Alchemy, but that again is not the point you keep trying to make. The point is you do have skills that mimic alchemy and some of them are not to shabby.
Unknown2005-10-10 21:57:28
In vein of transmute, Celestines also can convert health to mana.
Xavius2005-10-10 22:09:49
Hey Gregori, amissio doesn't heal mana. Hasn't for three months or so.
Unknown2005-10-10 22:12:41
Aye, but Leech in necromancy does.

I'm sorry Thorgal, but this is getting ridiculous.

Gem of Cloaking: 400 credits

Note: it does not remove you from gwho or cwho.

As Hajamin pointed out, this has nothing to do with scrying, farscouting, scenting, etc. I'm glad you want your gem to block these things. Hell, I'd love it if my artie pipes cured everything and didn't require herbs, or that they were uber arties I could attach to my swords when I felt like it. But they're not, they're pipes, they do exactly what they say in the help files.

I don't think the Gods are trying to pull a fast one, the gem does exactly what it says it does...no more, no less. If you don't think it was a wise investment, trade it in.

How can you seriously argue this point any further? It is what it is. If you don't like it, don't buy it.
Unknown2005-10-10 22:23:16
Why would gems do anything other than what they are supposed to do? wacko.gif

The point is that Scent makes the Gem useless, because literally every forestal can negate it, even novices.. I feel sorry for those that bought it. The Gem does no more than it's supposed to do, but now there isn't any point for doing that anymore.

Scent made the Gem useless, made the 400cr people spent on it in vain. This thread is just an attempt to have the Gem regain its value. If people are too stupid to understand this, I'll feel sorry for them too.

Don't. The gem removes you from QW. It's -always- been negated by city skills like window/farscout, but I'm happy in being able to check on planes and areas without attracting too much attention.

Now forestals can negate it too, but only if they're in the local area. Oh well, nothing that wasn't there before.

I'm with Terenas: I don't see the logic that the sole ability-given detection skill for Communes should have some form of "protection" yet there is no "protection" against scry and farscout, which are both far superior.

How about scent does not give the exact location of someone. If we are talking about things making sense, then being able to sniff the exact location of a person with one cast does not make sense either. It would make more sense if the person had to sniff in each room to determine the next direction to go leading to the target. You want scry/farscout like abilities, you can ask the city dwellers to enchant some on jewelry for you.
Athana2005-10-10 22:37:19
Question: Does scan show room titles too?
Thorgal2005-10-10 22:38:39
No, it only shows the names of the people that are outdoors in the local area.
Murphy2005-10-10 22:42:21
As someone who DOESNT own a gem, I agree here.

Scent is a local who list, which gives the added benefit of NOT needing thirdeye and novices get it. I also use scent basically everywhere I go to hunt people in the local area.

I like geb's idea, where you can't sniff the exact location or you can only tell which way to go. Window and farscout are very useful for telling WHERE your enemy is, but they also take EQ. Scent can be spammed on every time you move rooms. Hell if you script it properly with gag, you can set up a 10 second area thing that alerts you when your enemies enter the area (sound like an artifact on auction?)
