Should probably be a column to the limit on how far it can see. That is, some skill can see only 3 planes away (forget which one...).
Sylphas2005-10-11 07:17:46
Scry and Farsight can see across planes with the proper level of skill in Planar, and across continents the same way.

Should start off by saying I don't really care how Scent interacts with a Gem of Cloaking, that I have both, and that in all honesty it doesn't really make sense for Scent to be stopped by a Gem.
That said, Scent is too strong.
One, there is no reason it should give room locations for everyone in the area. Unless you physically follow the scent all the way to the actual person, you'd never know that. Two, it uses neither balance nor eq to do all this attentive sniffing. I'm also curious why the defense against this commune skill is yet another commune skill.
I am, however, going to leave all that alone.
My Envoy suggestion will be that using a Cleanse enchantment make you invisible to Scent for one Lusternian day.

So who wants to put bets on the next skill Thorgal cries and then cops out of answering arguments about?
Sylphas2005-10-11 08:27:16
So that you sell more Cleanse enchants, and Scent becomes worthless?
And can we get a commune skill that stops Scry/Window/Farscout in that case?

leave my scent alone, it's made my life that much easier. Now I actually know where my novices are when they get lost.

My bet is on Squirrel Totem next. FREE FOOD? THAT F*** RETARDED! Everyone else has to see a cook and they get free food? Oh it takes balance? Who cares! FREE FOOD IS OVERPOWERED.
Unknown2005-10-11 09:02:58
It is.
Narsrim2005-10-11 09:04:24
Level 80 (and 80+) is too overpowered too? How do whacking the crap out of the same junk like 50 bazillion times make you suddenly free-from-eating or sleeping?
Unknown2005-10-11 09:06:16
No, they still eat con food, therefore not overpowered.

I don't sell Cleanse enchants, Sylphas, I'm a fellow Scent user just like you. The difference is I seem to be more objective on the matter.

That you personally don't wasn't really the point.

Nerf the Groundhog! How dare we be able to dig and everyone else has to buy a shovel!
Unknown2005-10-11 09:13:25
Shovels are overpowered. Nerf those.

My point is simply the that the skill is too strong, too readily available, and has too few counters. Cityfolk have no counter, and right now Scent is a mass scry that doesn't use bal or eq and doesn't trigger Aethersight.
I don't really think it should, but the total package is undeniably unbalanced.

Please inform of your envoy suggestion for farscout. How about mass scry + 3 planes away... that's a hell better than local area, don't ya think?

at least you can TELL if you're being svcried if you have trans discernment, you can't tell if you're being scented.
The idea behind getting a gem and trans discernment is so you can pretty much know who's looking at you and when, scent avoids this totally

But Narsrim, we can't talk about skills that Magnagora has. Everyone knows how unbiased they are when it comes to things that benefit them. I mean look at every recent thread out there lately. Magnagora = not overpowered in the slightest, Serenwilde = ZOMG! Nerf! They are actually beating us after a year!

What about scan?
EDIT:
I used to use succor (Healing ability, diagnose anyone in local area) to see who was and was not in my local area. I imagine that's too powerful too?
