meanie though thats one possibility. *shrugs* oh apparently Lisaera's response to why there aren't commune links to astral was something like they don't want one *whimper* atleast thats what i heard from someone else.
oh well guess saran is going to wander around confused and stuff till he gets an answer
Asarnil2005-10-12 11:26:09
Guido, thats why I suggested for the WILDNODES games only, to allow each nexus give direct access to their respective home sphere, even make it something like "enter nexus" to transverse to the Astral plane so its easier to disable and no special skills are required to get up there.

hmm i was asking on ct (lisaera is unavailable) and my point is that
why did the flame have a reflection? what is it about the man-made nexuses that makes them this powerful?

untill recently i was generally working off the logic that when a city dweller actually tried to transverse to a higher plane for the first time that was when the reflection of the nexus was created which explained why the nexuses were connected as such(celest seeking out the plane of water) but now i've been thinking about it i don't fully understand as the flames reflection was there without it being used in the project. ("Oh no i've gone cross-eyed" Austin powers)

well perhaps it's time to write a letter to the lady

As YoLF said, the reason is that the communes have no interest in anything beyond the elemental planes. I imagine our Great trees don't have a reflection on the higher planes not because they aren't as 'powerful', but because they are living and hence limited to the planes sympathetic to natural life.

I don't want to see communes with easy access to Astral. It is one of our limitations, and perfectly consistent with our history.
Unknown2005-10-12 12:23:23
There's a perfectly good reason for the seren to do it, the astral plane is where the city folk orginally released the taint, destroying two communes, this they want to keep it out of their power, and by winning the wild nodes game they keep it from destroying Serenwilde for another year. Ohh and glom probably would go for it since they sort of want to cover the entire basin in Glomdoring forest, which probably can extend to all planes as well.

I wasn't aware of any burning desire to spread our forest any further than our current boundaries.

You do live in Glomdoring, yes? Right?

Nevertheless, she is obsessed with Glomdoring Forest,
contemptuous of all other regions in the Basin (though somewhat respectful
to Serenwilde because it is a forest, another perplexing attitude given
the hostilities Serenwilde has shown Glomdoring) and dreams of one day
that the Basin will be filled with nothing but the Glomdoring Forest.

I just have to point out: The idea of giving everyone astroglide is kind of unfair to those of us who already have it. Do we get anything in exchange for everone else getting our ability? sad.gif
Ashteru2005-10-22 21:30:18
The knowledge that while all those guys can do it temporary, you can always do it. biggrin.gif
Elysiana2005-10-22 22:14:30
The problem with that is that for those of us who don't regularly hunt Astral, it's almost a worthless skill except during these games. Not everyone's motivated by the desire to win bragging rights, after all.

Actually, there's something quite simple that would reconcile me to this idea: Do something like with the illusion wands, where someone who has the skill already gets a boost to their skill. After all, the stars are pulsing with power, right? So it's only natural that those who've spent the most time studying them and learning to use their power would be able to travel to them more easily than usual! Oh, and hearing about it in-game would be nice as well... I hate having to turn to the forums for information!
Ashteru2005-10-22 22:18:31
Bragging can be quite fun. And I guess a god will shout it anyway before the thing starts, or something like that. You just hear it sooner here.

And well...there ARE some worthless skills out there, it's like that in every skillset.

Everyone having astroglide was in one of the recent announce posts, so you can just read it there. It still isn't really IC but atleast it isn't the forums.

That being said, what is the syntax to use astroglide? And how do we get back down?

How d'you think I knew about it to post here? But a lot of things seem to happen in the forums and never get reported back to the game until late if ever, though I haven't exactly made a scientific study on that.

Syntax: ASTROGLIDE

Wait, you want to get back DOWN? HA! I'd be much more interested in going hunting on Astral regularly if I had a better (fast) way of getting down than conglutinate. Astroglide's a one-way trip only, as far as I know. And it always drops you at the same spot.
Unknown2005-10-22 22:58:03
If you conglutinate, that means you still lose exp though right? sad.gif
Elysiana2005-10-22 23:01:35
Yeah, just not as much experience loss as if you pray. Of course you still have all the other problems of dying, like dropping stuff and losing all your buffs. The only non-deadly ways I have of getting off Astral are exactly the same as every non-Astrologer: find Celest's nexus, find someone to tesseract to, or catch someone to hitch a ride down with. Umm, unless I'm forgetting something?
Asarnil2005-10-23 00:04:51
You also have the fun side-effect of costing your Divine essence if you do die too. I wish they would disable that part of it, because last time we did I dropped about 200k essence all up I think.

Heh, Even Estarra forgot about the Daylight Savings Time part of GMT conversions. I think people were confused that it was going to start an hour later.
