Hey Nok and company,
Unless the farscout bug was fixed, you could see on cosmic from prime. I tested this with Aesyra once, and she was able to see me on Celestia at the Pool of Stars.
Prime - Ethereal - Earth - Cosmic = 3 planes away.
I thought it was a bug, and it damn well better be... but that doesn't negate the fact tht you could up to 3 planes away.

1. I have never been able to do this, nor have I ever seen this done.
2. If that is possible, then that falls under the category of a bug since 3 planes away is not adjacent. As such, it is not a general balance issue and your point in this thread is a moot one.

Actually if you had read the thread you would have seen that it went long passed just a simple "gems of cloaking are made useless" which in fact they are not. They are the exact same as they have always been. The only difference now is that there is one more skill added to the 6 or 7 out there that will see a gemmed person.
203666
Scent is the only skill that will see a person with a gem of Cloaking without first being targeted, and that will not make the person informed that they are being detected.
Its sad how everybody just flew past that main issue. The skill also happens to be -new- where as this farscout appears to not be new and nobody has complained about it before, and as mr. Nok was saying, Narsrim is wrong/lieing.
Munsia2005-10-11 16:52:52
Dont accuse people of lieing
it's not right

Please learn about skills before posting on them. You end up looking like the very thing you accuse others of.
Scan, Demesne watch, Demesne sense can also see right through a Gem of Cloaking without alerting the person, nor are they targetted.

Originally, scan required that the user be in trees. While in trees, the user could detect all persons outdoors (including room name). Scan was changed because people thought it was unfair because the ability to climb trees for cities is quite high in environment. As a result, scan now function on ground, but does not given the exact room name. In this case, there were no complaints whatsoever about the ability detecting targets without notifying them.
=====================================================
With that said, if anyone wants to argue that scan/scent should trigger some sort of defense to let the target know he or she is being detected, that's fine. However, it better be a trans skill or close to trans as aethersight is trans discernment.
=====================================================
However, it is absurd for people to argue that because no "detection" ability exists then there should be 100% counter. I would argue that the reason no detect ability exists is because scan has an extreme restriction: local area whereas scry can does not and can even be used to view persons on other planes with cosmic sense.
=====================================================
At best, someone could feasibly make the argument that there should be an ability to indicate when someone is scenting you; however, there is no basis for a 100% counter.

As it becoming typical, Corr seems to have a good intent. He seems to be trying to objectively try and view the situation. However, he continually makes statements that are false because he either doesn't look into the matter or he's trying to focus on a point.

The Crow ability that detect a person doesn't set off aethersight either to my knowledge alongside demesne watch, demesne sense, hex sense, scan, birdseye, etc.

Birdseye is actually useless now with scent because it just shows people in the local area but doesnt give what room they are in.
Oh yes.. let me fly up in the air to see everyone which takes equilibrium when I can just scent and not use equilibrium....

And you know what, I'm so in favor of making birdseye better. I think it should maybe allow you to sense targets in adjacent areas (like if you are in Stewartsville, you could sense people on great southern highway + inner sea)... something cool like that.
However, my point was that there is no "counter" to birdseye.

As far as I am concerned Birds eye should work exactly like View in Eagle or Wyvern. Show you the locations of everyone outdoors on the same plane.

Doesnt mean i cant be hella pissed that I have to add another Crow skill to the wtf would I use it pile.. with squall cause pushing everyone one room away when they can just come right back before you recover equilibrium is soooooooooo awesome

Please don't be so patronizing.
Why didn't you comment about those skills when they were mentioning all the other ones?
Is there any cost to demense watch or sense? And how high up the skilltree is it?

There is no cost and its right outside of novicehood.

When Narsrim knows what he's talking about before explaining things about non-commune guilds, Nil will be frozen solid. There is a cost, Watch takes a mana and eq hit when its first put up, from then on untill you quit (or possibly die don't remember there) it stays up, and only works if your on the same plane. Sense takes a mana and eq hit each time its used. And as Nokraenom said, and you love to repeat as much as possible in every thread where its mentioned with the so-called '3 planes away', a obvious misweave that has never been reproduced except there, which should have some testing done by a celestine on Celestia to see if its a Celestia misweave, as I need to test as I haven't seem to been unable to window/scout people on Celestia from Nil, is hardly something to base a baseless argument on. This thread is about farscout, if you wish to continue causing arguments about scent take it to the other one
Sylphas2005-10-12 06:04:07
For all real purposes, Sense and Watch are free. It only really deserves mention if the recovery time is long or else doesn't actually use equilibrium or balance, or if the mana/will/etc cost is relatively high.
