Trade Skills

I've heard a rumor that I'd like to verify:

If you get a trans tradeskill item (philosopher stone, fascinate gem, magic tome, etc) and forget that skillset and select another (as in going from say alchemy to jewelry), are you allowed to keep the former trans item... and if so, does it still work the same? Can you still use an active item (fascinate gem) versus a passive (philosopher stone)?

I dearly hope not. I mean, I kept Stagform when I switched to a Moondancer, but that lasted until the first time I logged out. Something like this sticking around would be insane. Fullplate on a Mage? Wiccans with Magicrown? On they're own they don't affect combat too much, but if you start stacking trade skill benefits, it gets out of hand.

You can.

I have a fascinate gem and magic tome that still work.

To clarify: I heard the rule was this:

You are only able to keep the item if you could potentially still access the skillset it comes from... so....

If you go from say Magi -> Wiccan, you couldn't keep a crown of Magi because you had to forget enchantments

But if you stayed the same Guild or went from say Wiccan -> Druid, you could keep a philosopher from alchemy if you switched to jewelry.

That's about right, same ofcourse goes for plate. If you are still a warrior arch-type, you can keep the plate.

Some things don't work like this, such as the immunity from poisons, it will go away the next time you are hit with that poison.

It shouldn't happen though, should it?

I've always made sure not to use my jewelry gem, because I assumed that it wasn't supposed to be an accessable tool once you no longer possess the tradeskill.

Or are we allowed to use them?

Umm, that means you are allowed to use them.

So basically, for 300 credits, you get fullplate, then can pick another skill, if you're a warrior? Why not just sell it as an artifact in that case, because that's what it basically becomes. Same with the rest of them. I mean, forging especially, once you get fullplate and weapons you're happy with, there's not much point in keeping it.

Are warriors ever satisfied?
Unknown2005-10-13 07:59:19
It would be more like 128 credits, I think. Since that is how much it costs to change one trans tradeskill to another.

Wonder if I can grab Splendor robes and then hop back to Alchemy and get me a Philosopher's Stone, then. -chin-

It really isn't worth it for Splendor Robes. They decay in like 45-60 months or so compared to a philosopher stone that decays in 500 months.

Actually, a trans tailor/artist can make items of clothing lasting up to 80 months. Everytime I get a favour, my arts goes to trans, yet with low arts it's only around 40-50 months.
Murphy2005-10-13 08:58:50
hmm maybe i should consider the jewers thing as a 250CR artifact, get it and switch back to forging.

does the item reset to you?
Sylphas2005-10-13 09:06:49
I doubt it, since you could usually just make another.

There are other reasons besides taking Forging. Firstly, are runes since they help our weapons and armors a lot, secondly so we can forge for novices and guild members for free, thirdly since we are UNABLE TO REPAIR our forged goods, we still have to forge new weapons, new helms, scabbards, and armors constantly. So unless you try out being a warrior, stop complaining about things you have no idea about.

Same with you, Narsrim. rolleyes.gif

But splendor robes CAN be repaired. They really last about 240 months if you are trans arts and trans tailoring, right?

It only had 20 months left when i swiched. sad.gif

Isn't it jewelry? Can't they repair it?
Unknown2005-10-13 17:47:18
To repair an item you need to remove it. When you remove it, you won't be able to wear it again without the skill.
At least I think so.
