Ah yeah, what Sylphas said.

Well, Willowisps are usually known for being magical creatures that can lure you against your will, or, rather, by making you so damned curious and whatnot that you forget you shouldn't. Pits are just kinda there.

I don't really have a problem with pits as they are now, keeping in mind that they are a trans skill and quite expensive to create, except for a couple of points:
- Snakes in pits don't have to be immortal for the pit to be effective. If you're spending time killing snakes, you're not fighting the tracker.
- Pits in trees doesn't really make much sense. A 'pit' trap in the trees might cause you to fall onto the ground, that would be fine, OR it could require a double setup to make them fall onto the ground and then into a pit in the ground.

And thorgal despite what you may think tracking is not a weak skillset. It's a strong skillset since if someone falls into a pit its possible to keep them in there like daevos did to me (though he didnt kill me till I got out about 10 hits later)

Munsia, I just find that very funny. Here is what you said earlier when you were complaining about Pathtwist.
QUOTE(munsia @ Sep 19 2005, 02:51 AM)
Pathtwist isnt that usefull since everyone I fight uses unite, spores, (some actually teleport huh.gif ), then the others roll.

Thank you for proving my point.
Thorgal2005-10-17 06:26:13
No one has ever managed to keep me in a pit more than a few seconds Munsia, and I'm certainly not an escape artist like Narsrim.. pits are expensive and weak, useful in some cases, but weak nonetheless. The rest of Tracking obviously doesn't need an assessment, since it isn't worth the effort.

I can stay out of a pit to its the fact that when there's two exits and you cant walk out of the room? with the new 'upgrade' 'downgrade' kinda thing.
And you guys need to stop calling pits weak. they are expensive but sure as hell not weak. They are super usefull and the only reason alger fails to admit this is cause he doesnt want them getting downgraded or at least changed abit.
And what the nil does a willowips have to do with this topic?

If I were to become a warrior, I'd take tracking. I think you vastly under estimate the power of the skillset perhaps intentionally.
A charbydon dart trap is -very- nice one-on-one. If you assume the target has trans resilience, you are still going to average ~13 afflictions on the target that are all hidden (I mean no message period). This allows a very strong start.
On people who run, you can do a dart trap of paralyse or a pit (which stops them if they try to walk out of the room).
Pits are insane in groups because the other team literally starts off at a huge disadvantage -plus- they cannot even walk out of the room (unlike your team).
Unite is expensive in terms of willpower, but the *only* person who successfully and continually escapes my wisp traps is Alger. He may not be able to do it forever, but it sure beats everyone else like Daevos who dies.
=====================================================
And of course, you could always do this:
QUOTE
You have three rooms:
1 - 2 - 3
- You have a pit that will trigger when a target goes east of 1 into 2
- You have a pit that will trigger when a target goes west of 3 into 2
- You have a pit that will trigger when a target east or west from 2 to either 1 or 3
This is a total of 4 pits. They really just need 1 snake each.
If at any point in a fight you are in trouble, you can move one room away. The target is incapable of chasing you (even a group). The second they enter and fall into the pit, you simply move back from where you came. No matter what they do, no one can chase you -period-.

I fail to see how that's "underpowered."

Pit are recieving a change that wil not only fix this problem, but I would consider an overall upgrade. Snakepit may seem alittle weaker at first, but over all I think those with tracking(all... what 2 of you? heh) will see this as an overall advantage to you.
More details later today, as it will be done then.

This is nice - I fail to admit that what? Where did you get this.
What I said before that amongst all the traps I have 3 useful traps. The rest is pretty much useless. Thats still what I say now.
I wouldnt call snakepits useless, they have their use. There are also some tricks that I havent done with them yet but of course when I do you people will probably issue me again for bug abuse. I dont think they're overpowered though especially with the costs associated. Its not just about monetary funds its actually the availability which stops me from using these pits as much as I would like to.
-
Narsrim you need 5 snakes to make 1 pit and when you do make that pit those 5 snakes go poof and you cannot make another. So if I'm going to make 4 pits I need 20 snakes which isnt likely, I'm lucky to have 5 on my person.

Its a bug that you can even see the snakes really they should stay in the pit elevation. There are really five snakes in each pit.
For the numerous pits, I simply put a snakepit up every time I am able to get some snakes. Its not like I put all of them in one go. That actually takes me more than a day to do.

Well if thats true then you shouldnt be able to see me when I'm in the pit at that elevation either then.

Thanks for reminding me about that, it was always meant to add the ", in a pit" to mobs like it does to players.
