Whether they can be carried around or not, kegs and cubes are a briliant innovation, thank you!

I have my own cube that is recharged for free by a friend who just charges me powerstones. In return, I have access to free recharging of *any* enchant at whim. Good luck extorting.
Cubes aren't that expensive and last 150 months. Anyone with brains will have their own.

Pfft, with jewelry you need a 500cr artifact to compete.

It's true. I spend all my time asking Ialie for her hammer. I'll save up for it eventually. Mastercut just means you can sell for 100 or so and make a profit. Jeweller's hammer means you can get away with selling for 40 if you want and still make a profit easy.

I agree that kegs and cubes should only work when installed into a shop, otherwise you get cases like Narsrim, carrying around cubes and kegs, getting refills and enchantments for just powerstones, it'll be a major crash into the tradeskills.

Why would I carry around a keg? I'm a transcendent alchemist. That's a waste of 350 wood when I can just pop up to the alembic. I also have access to a shop so it doesn't matter either way. I can just pop in, drop cube, set price to zero, go up, recharge, go down, get cube.
Unknown2005-10-17 10:33:20
I was talking with Bau about this, having kegs and cubes only work when they're actually placed in a shop and sellable, would remove that problem, and also still give enchanters and alchemists work.

That makes no sense. If you carry a cube in your inventory, you have to get it recharged. If someone is going to recharge a cube for me for free, that means *gasp* they've been recharging for free all along. There is no loss of profit - period.

If it makes no difference for you, then I'm sure you have no objections to cubes and kegs only working when they're installed in a shop.

Agreed Narsrim isn't at faulth here, but the person enchanting for him for free is. Seeing Narsrim isn't liked by Magnagora (and he doesn't like Magnagora) I'm taking this enchanter is a Celestian or a rogue.
Celest has minimum prices set by law. So if this enchanter is found he or she should be punished severly for ruining the trade. Failing that if another enchanter finds this out it would be a good RP reason to make that person's life miserable.

I object because there is no reason for them to only work in a shop. Let's assume you pay 30 gold per charge for enchantments, you are paying the same 30 gold for the 999 charges on the cube or 999 charges spread out on jewelry over time. I don't see why you should have to turn to a shop. This entire gain is about having bulk enchants/alchemy.
The amount of gold made by the trade is exactly the same. Why should that only function in shops? Furthermore, the advantage to having them in a shop is that they do not decay (the cube/keg). I see no reason to furthe expand that advantage.
And what's the end result? Everyone likely has a friend or a friend of a friend with a shop. If the shop keeper puts the cube in a bin and restricts it to say an Order, clan, etc.... they still have the same potential to get easy enchants at whim.
Narsrim2005-10-17 10:49:33
It would be akin to me saying that you shouldn't be able to sell bulk galingale from a person. You should only be able to buy more than 200 at a time from a shop in a pocketbelt.
Alger2005-10-17 11:01:09
we shouldnt be able to carry kegs in our inventory!
campaign for : rolling kegs to the alembics!
*turn keg*
keg faces southwest
*turn keg*
keg faces west
*push keg*
a keg slowly rolls to the west
then I can use the gr1 ur'guard as slave laborers.
yey
OR we could have new artisan and riding stuff - wagons
where you attach them to a mount you bring the wagon to the shop then you load the kegs on the wagon! Then narsrim can jump you, kill your mount and steal your kegs.

The amount of gold gained will remain the same, but the amount of people making gold out of their tradeskill will drastically lessen.

Whole purpose of those kegs and cubes is that you dont need to constantly whine on Market about that you are looking for enchanter/alchemist. If shopkeeper have keg, he is going to alchemist, refill keg, put in shop, set price higher then he pay and if someone want refill and none alchemist is around he have to go for the shop, pay a little more and then he have refills and shop have profit from it.
And am I only one who see here an open way for city vs forest conflicts??
Just imagune city/commune that is gona spend tones of comms for kegs and cubes then rechanrge them/ refill them and keep in safe place and when war or conflic begins they will be have access for enchantments or refills.
Great idea!
We all love our divines!
Who was this idea orginally? Estarra??
Ialie2005-10-17 11:06:17
I think it was a player idea from way back. Gregori's possibly.
Thorgal2005-10-17 11:07:26
Isn't it a little silly to walk around with 15+ Kegs in your inventory? To hold such a huge amount of potions, these kegs must be enormous.
