Heh, you can do it without the skill? Amusing... it's the first skill in Illusions that shows you if there's any illusions around, and I think it might also be a Discernment skill though I'm not sure.
Sylphas2005-10-23 18:38:43
Nope, Illusions in Discernment is just Realitycheck.

I'm agreeing with Sylphas' Idea:

Make the specs show the hidden exits on look. That or have it display it's own line like "Your vision highlights an exit to the $DIR that would have otherwise gone unnoticed" or something to that effect.

As has already been said there are ways to check for hidden exits with 100% accuracy, the spectacles are just a more efficient way of doing it by using a magical artifact. Keep in mind if you are wearing these glasses that are 100% effective at 'seeing' these hidden exits it makes sense for you to just see them when you enter the area. You dont do anything other than wear gloves of harvesting to get the benefits, same for runes, they just have to be attached to your weapon and you get the benefit - so on and so forth.

The biggest thing, in my opinion, is that this doesn't help you find any exits you don't know about. If you suspect an exit is there, there are better ways to find it then using Secrets, and if you don't, having 100% Secrets does you no good.
Tsakar2005-10-25 09:25:30
Just a little theory of mine is that they might work as they do, because all it does is make secrets skill 100%, to make it as has been suggested in the thread would require a small/decent code change, which might have been why they implemented the spectacles as they are. Personally I think having them work as you see the exits when you enter (or use the never/rarely ever used exits command) mayhap with an (H) for hidden or some such after the hidden ones, would make paying so much for the artifact more worthwhile
Sylphas2005-10-25 09:28:17
Well, I'm always wrong when I say this, but I'd think it would only be a matter of not bothering to check the hidden flag.

SO WHY DID YOU BID 150 CREDITS FOR THEM!?
Sylphas2005-11-01 07:32:17
Because only 5 people have them. -shrug- They were the only ones I had a shot at winning, though if I'd known what some of the others would go for (305 for a Wand of Ice? ohmy.gif) I'd have hoarded some more and tried something else.
Vix2005-11-02 05:27:08
Have you even used them yet? :/

Dunno if it's already been suggested, but make the person with the artifact not use eq with SECRETS?
Sylphas2005-11-02 11:05:16
Having gotten my pair finally, I have to confirm that, yes, they are useless. 4 second equilibrium to find exits I already know are there. If I don't know they're there, these don't help me in the least.
Narsrim2005-11-02 11:07:44
Am I the only one who has a "magic set of legs" that allow me to spam directions to find hidden exits because its instant a secrets sucks? Heh.
Sylphas2005-11-02 11:10:00
Yep. If you think it's there. Secrets should ALWAYS be 100%, and take about 2 seconds base. I mean, what if everyone had squint, but you needed an artifact to glance? That's almost how this is.

You can always trade them in if you don't like it, I suppose.

Also, what about exits like 'through a churning whirlpool'? Are you likely to test that?

I've yet to find a hidden exit that was not a *normal* exit.
Sylphas2005-11-02 17:48:43
If it's something like that, it will be an item in the room, or in the room description at least. If you have reason to look, you'll find it.

And I want them, they're fun to have, if for no other reason than that Sylphas wears glasses now.
Corr2005-11-02 20:28:44
How much do you get when you trade in an artifact you won through an auction?

Probably up to the admin whether to give back however much you bid, half of what you bid, or half of a set price they'll make for the artifact from now on.
Eyod2005-11-05 10:29:44
they'd be much more useful as suggested showing exits on look.

Hmm, while we're at it let's make the winged sandals allow you to avoid bumping into cattle. happy.gif
