Ok, so I got my eyebrow pierced over a year ago, along with three in my ears. Now, 13 months later, with no sign of complications, the damn thing will begin to grow shut within an hour of me taking it out, and after a 10-11 hour day at work, putting it back in hurts like a bitch. Is this normal? I could imagine an oral piercing doing this, as they heal much faster, but an eyebrow? Should I just stop bothering with it and let it go (I don't wanna!) or what?
Unknown2005-10-20 07:39:49
Eesh. If it's constantly doing that I'd let it go. Daily punishment isn't the way to go and I know you don't want to quit your job since you enjoy it so much.
Sylphas2005-10-20 07:41:53
Actually, this is a new job. I almost cried when I did it, but I had to quit the library job. Now I work on a freaking packaging line at a bakery, and would quit in an instant if I could afford it.
I'm still annoyed at their policy. I understand the whole "no jewelry" for safety purposes, but if my eyebrow gets into a machine, my nose is already in the damned thing, and I'm screwed regardless.

Just get a spacer for when you're at work.
Singollo2005-10-20 12:59:34
cut off your finger and see if it grows back. You might just be Wolverine!

get a very small piercing without the balls at the sides and hope your boss doesn't notice?
After all, he shouldn't be looking at your face too closely to see it.
Never had piercings but in my ears, but I recall somebody in my family doing that for long meetings where a pierced eyebrown just doesn't fit with the clothing.

They sell small plastic(I think it's plastic) clear "spacers" for just that purpose.
Iridiel2005-10-20 15:39:35
Let's accept the "I don't poke holes on myself if they're gonna hurt" as reason for my lack of vocabulary regarding piercings?
Singollo2005-10-20 16:15:33
Your logic is flawed. Most piercings hurt less than a shot.

if you can't afford spacers use a bit of clear fishing wire, make sure its clean tho

I didn't realize Murphy was an redneck
Singollo2005-10-20 17:48:42
He's from Australia.

See though, they made me remove my necklace I had on under my shirt, so I think if they did notice a spacer, they'd flip. Worth a try though, and as a last resort fishing line doesn't technically count as jewelry I guess.
Murphy2005-10-20 17:51:33
oi, i'

It helps if you keep the jewelry in at all times (other than work). I have had to remove several pieces before (and trust me, it is so much worse to try and shove a hoop through your lip, or something back into your tongue when they have partially closed) for work, if they notice.
Something that might help also, if you're not too squeamish, is to find a big embroidery needle, make sure it's totally sterilized, and gently push it through the hole to reopen it after icing the area so it is numb.
As a last resort, if you have a good relationship with your local piercer, you can always ask for a second, professional hand to help you shove it back in (or even repierce it at a huge discount).
Hope this helps.

I got them originally pierced in an out of work piercer's living room, and keep sewing machine needles around that happen to be almost exactly 14 gauge at the thick end around with my jewelry. Ice is for sissies.
It's not the pain or anything that's annoying, it's just having to do it all the damn time. I kept jewelry in it for a YEAR straight, and it's still pulling this crap on me. You'd think my own face wouldn't be this rebellious.

Saran2005-10-21 07:21:10
perhaps your face didn't enjoy having needles poked through it?
Sylphas2005-10-21 07:23:56
It should, the rest of me doesn't mind. Or the bite marks, or scratches...
Iridiel2005-10-21 09:15:55
I don't plan on getting shot to verify that, Sylphas
I had to have the ones in my ears redone after several years of not using earrings, because I was very allergic as a child. Didn't like that a bit, one entire week I had to sleep looking at the ceiling
And better get a spacer or something, using a neddle each night must be nasty.

I've been managing to get it in by itself, it justs hurts like hell, and I have to push through a thin layer of skin. I'm sure doing that each night can't be healthy for it either.
One benefit of this, though, is that now I plan on getting my tongue pierced, just so I can keep it in and mentally give them the finger. If they try to say that's a safety hazard, I'll punch them in the damn face. I'm not going to stick my tongue in the damn conveyor belt.
