I think the weak link is looking at Estarra's statements as to what it was supposed to be, instead of what it actually turned out as. Game as it is on server > game as it is in design document.

=====================================================
I really don't get how Magnagora can focus upon beauty when the Taint twists and corrupts things into twisted/ugly manifestations of its former self. Almost everything that describes the Taint does so in a fashion that makes it out to be *everything* but attractive. Hell, the help scroll for the Nihilists even makes it clear that the priesthood is more concerned with greed than catering to the Demon Lords... again, I don't see anything that remotely signifies beauty.
I suppose one could argue that they wear lots of makeup, thick cloaks, and just claim to be beautiful when they are in fact hideous (what's kinda funny is that they walk about with "hideous archdemons too"...). However, I've always gotten the impression that this would be Viravain-ish and as such, it doesn't happen.
All of you are thus banished to Angkrag.
EDIT:
I think its funny the Viscanti basically ended up as a race of its own by interbreeding. That's just sick.

Well.. I look at myself in the mirror and I think, damn I'm an attractive little Viscanti. Good skin, lovely pretty wings, just the stumps of horns forming on my consise and un-lined forehead.
Sure, some of the things we do don't look terribly attractive, but then Narsrim darling, I'd argue that you probably don't shine with elfen beauty while you're on the toilet or vomiting after an over consumption of elderflower wine. If anything it shows a higher sort of character amongst us Viscanti that we're un-bigoted about those aspects of our behaviour which could be held to be aesthetically unappealing.
With regards inbreeding, every race started from a relatively small number of initial creations. Note that on no scroll does it accurately state exactly how small our initial numbers were... sure one or two might be a little wrong.. but I reckon there were probably several thousand or so who survived the tainting to be warped rather than killed.

Talking about demons being ugly, succubus are a form of demon They're not supposed to be ugly at all.
Also, in certains branches of judaism/christianism, the Demon was a fallen angel, the most beautiful and nearly perfect of all angels.
So, they can have a demonic apearance and anyway be beautiful. Not taking into account the warped and twisted thing.

In case you didn't notice, it's Agent_Templar's thread about roleplaying a lich which you derailed. So hush.
Thorgal2005-10-21 11:05:32
Narsrim just has this idé fix of "evil can't be beautiful", that's quite clear.
Viscanti are beautiful, to viscanti.. and Elfen are butt ugly, to viscanti.
There is no roleplay reason whatsoever, for viscanti to have low charisma.. it's pure game mechanics and shuffling around stat points, since they have higher constitution.

No role-play reason? They're intimately associated with a society that prides itself in lack of empathy. You can't identify with people, you can't get in side their heads and persuade them. What better RP justification could there possibly be for an entire race to have low charisma?
Exarius2005-10-21 16:10:58
Evil can be superficially beautiful. In fact, it makes more sense for evil to be superficially beautiful, in the same way it makes more sense for a hunting lioness to hide in the tall grasses of the savannah rather than stroll brazenly up to the watering hole, snarling and snapping at anything she sees.
In the real world, that which is bad must mask its existence, either by pretending to be something else, or by pretending to not be there at all.
It's always been one of my pet peeves about MUDs that on every single one, large groups of people RP having "EVIL" tattooed on their foreheads, and we wind up with things like the ugly, diseased Viscanti image, inviting hatred and loathing at a glance; not something like the superficial and seductive creatures described by Estarra.
I want villains I can realistically loathe, not feel compelled to roll my eyes at and say, "I get it. You're evil. Whatever."

Hitler was evil to the core and had tremendous charisma. You are confusing empathy and charisma. Charismatic people can be cruel and inconsiderate- it has little bearing on their personal magnetism. Remember Charles Manson and Jim Jones?
Also, charisma does not = beauty. There are plenty of people in real life who are very attractive but possess zero charisma, and vice versa.

Just to try and get this thread back on topic...
I have a gradual description change for Kymir. His standard aslaran description is fairly ordinary: just a normal-sized aslaran with black fur and large ears. However, as an undead, I have a rather gruesome description for him, and as time goes by I'll update this description to represent his gradual decomposition. As of current, he's on stage two, his flesh just beginning to dry out due to constant exposure to the wasteland climate of Magnagora, and his skeleton beginning to enlarge itself, causing his flesh and fur to slough off.
This will eventually (5+ IG years) culminate in Kymir losing all flesh and becoming the ultimate symbol of undeath as a skeleton. As time goes on he'll begin losing all emotions and intellect, finally existing merely to kill.
Try it. It's fun.

This is correct. From what I've studied of Hitler, he was a superb politician with well above average charisma. He just also happened to be a sociopathic(?) maniac with appalling beliefs.
EDIT: Is sociopathic the word I'm looking for? Help me out.

Going back on topic... I was considering a subtle approach to lichdom. He'd gradually grow more morbid and grim. A wry, world weary sense of humour goes without saying. Appearance changes would likely be vampiric for lack of a better word- minus fangs and such, of course.

Wait, he isn't that already?
And yeah, as soon as Ash gets Lich, I developed a nice scheme for him. As a normal Muggie, he'll be nearly sane and all, a bit scary and confused sometimes, but halfway sane.
As a Lich, he'll be completely insane, only saying random things, talking about Gorgulu and devouring as well as killing and all. Really not the kind of guy you want to meet.

One entry found for charisma.
Main Entry: cha·ris·ma
Pronunciation: k&-'riz-m&
Variant(s): also char·ism /'kar-"i-z&m/
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural cha·ris·ma·ta /k&-'riz-m&-t&, "kar-iz-'mä-t&/; also charisms
Etymology: Greek charisma favor, gift, from charizesthai to favor, from charis grace; akin to Greek chairein to rejoice -- more at YEARN
1 : an extraordinary power (as of healing) given a Christian by the Holy Spirit for the good of the church
2 a : a personal magic of leadership arousing special popular loyalty or enthusiasm for a public figure (as a political leader) b : a special magnetic charm or appeal
I don't really see beauty anywhere in there, heh.
Charisma is more about charm, your personality. As Thorgal said, a beautiful woman can be repulsive to you, for various reasons.
Beauty is also in the eye of the beholder. I'm an undead loboshigaru. Elfen are ugly to me, hairless, skinny things they are. They don't even have tails, and they've got stubby things that pass for teeth. Mugwumps are worse. Damp skin, webbed feet, no teeth at all. Faelings are like elfens, but appetizer-sized. Still ugly. Don't get me started on merians.
But, if you're friendly, humorous and charming, I could probably overlook the hairlessness and stubby teeth, and think that you're absolutely wonderful.
Robert De Niro's not beautiful, but I'd watch any movie he's in, because he's that great an actor.
Milla Jovovich is beautiful, but she annoyed me to the high heavens in Joan of Arc with her epileptic wheezing.
Charm =/= Beauty
