An auction is designed to generate the most possible money for an item. That's its reason for existing... finding the highest price point at which someone will buy said item. Being able to make your maxbid lower would work against such purpose.

Hmmm, auctions can be very destructive bad things! Hate to be an utter bitch but more often than not, an auction can be the worst possible way to sell something...

I used to work in real estate as an auctioneer/agent, and it was known that all auctions were good for, was to auction the person selling, not the item, by basically conditiong people to take the lowest someone would pay...for instance i can pretty much say that that amulet ixion bought, he would've paid another 50 cr for it at least, and everyone else who won would've payed at least 5 credits more than they actually did.

Maybe i'm just bitter cause i hated real estate (i don't do well lying to people, i'm not good at it) but IMO auctions will find you the best price that the 2nd highest bidder will pay, plus a couple of dollars more -shrug- maybe this doesn't relate but i'm jsut ranting now because yes, i'm drunk

Heh, artifact transfers exist so you can't do anything but turn in an artifact for another. Not so you can gain credits for an artifact.

Well you wouldn't really 'gain' any credits for it. If I had 2k credits and bought cubix with it.. and later I'd descide to auction that cubix, if I was -lucky- I'd make close to 2000 credits for it again, but never more.

Only problem I see is that it would be possible that way to get an artie cheaper than from the artie shop, if you are lucky but I really see no way how you could -gain- credits that way, there'd rather be some lost. happy.gif

Also.. why not have people auction other things then? There's often someone who wants to sell this or that on market, why not enable them to sell it with auctions? Master weapons or armour or enchanted greatrobes for example..

Could be credit and gold auctions and to avoid that someone puts 200 items up at once restrict it that one char can only have 2-3 items up at a time.. and different categories so you could search through auctions like through wares in a shop.

Now.. why do I feel that that is such a no no ninja.gif sad.gif

Reason 1: PLayer starts a short auction, buys it with his alt. Just transfered items, trying to get around the rules.

Reason 2: Once you buy an artifact, that's it the credits are locked in artifacts. If you want to trade it in, you can only do so for other artifacts. Allow auctions, they can now get back some of the credits spent on it, violating IRE policy.

Reason 3: Every other type of abuse you can think of, someone will try. It's too much of a risk to allow players to do things like this on their own, because we all know SOMEONE will try to find away to game the system.

That's what the market is for.

And yeah, everything concerning artifact and credit policy is Matt's call, no one else's. I doubt lady Estarra is allowed to decide, for example, that artifacts may be traded in for credits, or decrease/increase the OOC credit cost on the website.

Unless you're producing a very special thing that nobody else can, nobody is going to bid if they can just get it at the market price from somebody else.

And if you're producing such special thing in limited amounts, you can just charge outrageously for it and wait for it to sell.

And I think credits are somethign that depends on IRE management. I guess if you buy the rapture engine and make your own mud, then you can charge whatever you want, but as long as Lusternia depends on IRE I guess they'll set all them games in the same conditions (cheaper credits in a place would be an advantage for that game marketwise I guess).
