Doom opens in theatres tomorrow, anyone going to see it?
Movies based on video games are usually terrible, but I'll go see it anyway.

I watched the trailer about a week ago and it looked fairly good. No idea when it's released over here though. But yes when it's released I'm going to go see it.

The Rock was on the daily show last night and gave away the ending of the movie....

It's opening here soon. I'd be nuts to miss this! I didn't know the Rock was in it until I looked at the poster carefully... Was only interested as I'd played the original Doom game.

Personally, I liked it.
I agree with Richter, a large percentage of movies based on video games end up being flops. Tomb Raider is the rare exception I think, but that was largely due to two melons and their high jubbly bounceage factor.
One thing you -must- do before you go see Doom 3, remind yourself that the movie is NOT the video game (Doom 3). The story, while similar, is NOT the same. They've deviated quite a bit on a few major points. However, if you go into this with a clear mind and accept it for what it is, it's really not a bad movie at all. There's a few somewhat lame one liners, but 90% of them come from The Rock so it was to be expected. I thought the acting was pretty decent (bear in mind this is an action/blow-sh!t-up film, the acting scale is lowered substantially), the action sequences were decent, lots of shooting and lots of dieing.
The part I thought was nifty was where the film switches to a FPS view from one of the main characters as he's going around mowing down zombies and critters. It was not over done like the comic-bookish sequences in Incredible Hulk, and gave that part of the movie a unique flavor and something different.
Just keep reminding yourself that this movie is not the game, and you'll have a reasonably enjoyable experience.

I'm afraid, I concur with bwbettin.

I never played Doom 3, so I enjoyed the movie. The FPS part was pretty cool too, for a few minutes, he went nuts and killed a bunch of stuff with some neat music in the background.

The sad part is the movie has just about nothing to do with -any- of the Doom series. I'm sorry, but Resident Evil still holds the cake. And that says something...
