Hrm, maybe you need to not be enemied to night. Didn't something along those lines happen to the guys from Glomdoring that tried to give fae honeycakes and were enemied to Faethorn?

Nope, the same thing happened when people unenemied to Nightspirit did this, it's a Bug from all I know, I submitted it awhile ago, but I geuss other things are taking presidence over it.

I gave a shadowy honeycake to fae in ethereal seren and the fae told me something along the lines of they werent accepting them until something or other.

Sneaky Nyla. They said 'We don't take honeycakes from strangers.'
