Not the same? Buy a cartel. It ends up about the same ridiculous price anyway, and lookee, it's all yours.
Sylphas2005-10-23 09:47:17
Do you guys really care that people are willing to spend that much on a coat of arms? It's almost sounding like you wanted one, but couldn't afford it, and are jealous.
Tsakar2005-10-23 09:57:16
Ignoring the fact that I personally found heraldry as utterly uncomprehensible on achaea, I would say not to have it simply for the fact that there are many things that can be fixed, tweaked, or added that are already planned before something that is seriously not needed

...anyone care to translate for those not-so-versed in the english language?

It is basically meaningless pompous rambling, Ash.

Like hell I am.
I seriously always thought it was a waste of coding time, waste of gold, waste of space (in honours, etc) and generally useless.

Ah, thanks. Sounded like that, but I wanted to make sure.
It would be nice if every character at level 80 or something would be given ONE free design to design themselves a coat of arms, as well as every Guild and City/communeleader. That would show that they are something special and all. Or that they ONCE were something special, heh.
Or let them purchase the right for one free design for around 100k, and then they can design it themselves or so.

Coat-of-Arms was very important in the middle ages because of illiterarcy and it was the best way to identify nobles and military.
Maybe make Heraldry have an effect on Village influencing, giving a bonus, or even require it before you can influence.
I would actually like to see it be a skill in arts, although it would have to be submitted rather than just created, since it's a bit complex.

You know, i severly doubt it's that hard to tell the trademaster of what ever organization cartel to like, hey, i'll pay you 10K to make me a custom pair of boxers with my name on them, only for my use.
Unknown2005-10-23 10:50:52
I don't like the concept of regimented medieval heraldry at all.
Why would the nature communes recognise stuffy authoritarian practices like that?

They wouldn't, vote NO to heraldry! Vote No! Vote No!
Unknown2005-10-23 11:00:00
Animals might recognize Heraldry. And Totems are sort of primitive Heraldry
Sylphas2005-10-23 11:05:48
Stuffy and authoritarian? It's basically saying "this is who I am, and who my family are," making it easier to recognize people.
Tsakar2005-10-23 11:15:24
An animal wouldn't care about some design on a shield or piece of clothing, and totems is bonding with an animal spirit per se, nothing to do with heraldry. And really, do you not think we have plenty of things that the divine can spend their times adding, such as things they have been planning, fixing or tweaking rather then putting them off for some heraldry system
Edit: And if you really want something to show who you are like that, as others have said its rather simple to go to a private or city/commune tailoring cartel to talk to them about having something like that designed, for far cheaper then some heraldry, and without the need of distracting the divine from other projects for something that a large portion of the basin might not even use, especially judging from responses here so far

Do you REALLY think people are going to learn OTHER people's symbols/whatever?
Sylphas2005-10-23 11:33:48
Yes. Why not? And once again, it really doesn't affect you if you don't want it to, so why the hostility?
Unknown2005-10-23 11:37:22
There is no need for it. It can be done already with the systems we have in place, so I really don't understand why an extra mechanism should be put in place.
Sylphas2005-10-23 11:42:42
It's not going to happen. And doing it with what we have now is incredibly awkward and non-standardized, which defeats the whole purpose, really. I'm just curious why people seem to really hate it.
Unknown2005-10-23 11:45:49
I don't think it fits into the flow of Lusternia.
