We have nothing of the sort in Lusternia, so why heraldry?

I don't actually care one way or the other, but if you're going to do it, do with a system that's recognized, not just randomly putting something in a design.

It doesn't at all have the same feel to it. I can make up a coat of arms and sew it on my clothes now, but no will care, and I'll get funny looks. Somewhere that recognized them though, it'd be fine.

Basically, if you're going to do it, do it right, otherwise, don't have it all. Either is fine with me.

So tailors and jewellers should stop putting marks on clothing to show it's their design. And, umm, guilds can't have anything organisational, and, well, gee, let's just forget private designs while we're at it.

You know what? Forget it. You're not going to listen either way.

Where's that darn ignore button? I'll just leave it on till this thread is dead.

It's a waste of time and gold, IMO.

blink.gif None of which are anything like a coat of arms. Seriously, that's like comparing one to an artist's signature on a painting. You would never put your coat of arms on a piece that someone else would wear, to show that it's yours, and private designs are incredibly more versatile then this.

Coats of arms denote ownership, not authorship. Clothing would have the mark of the person who made it, and could have the coat of arms of the person who owns it. Organizational coats of arms would be worn by the organization, and so on. In medieval and post-medieval societies, a coat of arms is a demonstration of social status, which is why they're so damn expensive.
