After three full days away from my computer, I have come to the conclusion that Lusternia just honestly isn't worth it anymore. So much work and so much trouble, and for what? This isn't a real game, like a LARP or a tabletop. See, in real games, the point is to have fun, and the job of the GMs (game masters) is to ensure the players have fun, and to have fun doing it. That just isn't the way here. Lusternia isn't a game, it's an interactive world. That's fine and all, but in the end, I'm a gamer. I come here to have fun. If I wanted a job, I'd get a friggen job. But I have obligations here, and I'm not going to just vanish from the 'game' like I'd like to.
However, these forums ruin any entertainment I might derive from Lusternia. All this bickering and whining and complaining and attacking others - what the heck? None of this crap - and it is crap - belongs anywhere near what I consider a game. So, except for the Quotes thread and any forum-mafia games being run by Ibby, I'm vanishing. In all honesty, I have no desire whatsoever to speak with the Lusternia playerbase out of character. Some of you in specific, like Ibby and Kalo and Tsuki and Ialie and the rest of you I call friend (or just plain like), yes, but that's no reason to hang out on a forum like this. So go ahead, flame me, accuse me of plagerism again for all I care - Goodbye.

I just think you need a small break. If you leave and lusternia calls you back, if you love it, it will, but if you don't if you have no desire to come back then no it isn't worth it. Play for yourself. NOt for other people. In the end no matter how selfish this sounds, you play the game for -Your- enjoyment.

This same thing happened with myself and World of Warcraft's forums. I loved that game with a passion, I would stay and play it for many hours on end. For some silly reason I started going to their forums and let me tell you, the level of maturity and amount of flaming is so ridiculous that it slowly but surely ruined the game for me. I just could not play knowing that these characters I was intereacting with were the same fools running around the forum, stamping their feet and calling eachother names.
Go from the forums - I've considered it myself from time to time - but stay for the game/world. We you muchly.

Wow. The blizzard forums are such a bad idea. F-ing Blizzard kiddies. That's not to say that these forums are much better, and in fact, it might as well all be called IDIOTS because its one giant rant. Gosh darn you freaking angsty people.

Shorlen, all the bickering sprouts from Narsrim. Just scroll down whenever you see his freaky avatar.
Unknown2005-10-24 05:27:40
Whoops, I just did it, didn't I?
*AHEM!*
Shorlen, really. Don't go. You Serens are dropping like flies.

I think the problem is the perceived impact of forums in-game. Several abilities appear to have been downright nerfed because people whined on forums. While this may not be the case, that's the perception - if you whine, things will change.
Furthermore, there is the notion that if you do not whine, other people will whine so you are essentially "losing your voice" by not whinning. I think its terrible... but what do you do about it?

More people should just play my mafia games. They're far more entertaining than the rest of the forums.

If no one whined we wouldnt have a problem, but the problem spread like a fire, when one starts another has to best him, another does the same thing etc. It keeps on going. To many stubborn people here. Give your ideas and get out

All this bickering and whining and complaining and attacking others
Complaining is one of the most unattractive things a person can do. Unfortunately, gaming communities are often plagued with chronic whining and effeminate, passive-aggressive behavior. This behavior usually stems from a vocal minority who drown out the majority of more considerate people with their inane chatter.Unknown2005-10-24 08:49:32

I think people should seriously step away from the forums, as Shorlen is doing, and enjoy Lusternia for what it is. All of this side commentary/bitchery that stems from organizational hate, skill "overpowered"-ness, and so on is not only taking from the players, but possibly from development as well. While I agree that some whining can produce good results (Lower of lesson loss, slight Knighthood fixes before Lunge became commonplace offense, etc), a lot of the attitudes on the forum DO transfer in-game to ruin enjoyment and even roleplay.
I think everyone needs to remember that there is a person on the other side of the monitor, and, while it doesn't really affect you in-game (Unless you care to put raids aside when people are obviously burnt out, and this is just an arbitrary example), you ought to put that thought first when you step on an outside influence like the forum. No matter what, your performance in game should out-weigh your forum presence since that is where the actual action is, whether it be roleplay or not.
So.. try to play Lusternia and not Lusternia Forums (Unless it's the mafia game! ).
Narsrim2005-10-24 08:53:54
Simply put, the bitch fest on forums won't stop so long in-game changes are happening because X-group of people threw Y-fits on forums.
Unknown2005-10-24 09:01:46
If that's the case then the developers should stop falling into player-based pressure, if that's where some of the changes are coming from. Of course this would probably mean the same for new ideas, but due to them becoming "something from nothing" makes it more tweakable prior to bitching.
An unlikely way to fix this might be to create a "Bugs and Concerns" section in the forum that would allow players to voice their concerns about things/report bugs that require logs ONLY. It'd clean up the General and Idiots sections, and if the moderator is strict enough it won't be littered with crap.
And with IC punishments being instituted against those who try to get around being forum-banned I don't see a problem with that other than annoying the hell out of mods if something is out of place and needs removal.
Edit: I only introduced the idea of the new section since people will never stop bitching/be able to publish their whining as long as the forums exist. "Concerns" would only deal with game mechanics, by the way. Idiots exists for a reason.

Also presenting the arguement that you have to whine or your voice wont get heard, isnt that kind of childish?
