One day, Jadryga had just refilled 2 kegs, and had dropped them in her stockroom. She picked up gold to calculate, all the while battling the dreaded Lagmonster and his deadly spikes. She was hit with a massive one, and when her head cleared and she could see again, she saw a Serenwilder had moonbeamed in and picked up most of the things in her stockroom. She tried to attack him, but he was graced. She called for backup, he ran out of the door she'd opened so reinforcements could come in. The city managed to enemy him in time, and he died to a plague lord, only dropping the herbs.
Thorgal and I then issued him.
(Quoted issue removed.)
While yes, people do make mistakes, this piece of hindsight rather negates it for me.
After he replied to the issue, he had the audacity to ask for gold for the goods returned.
Now, while I understand and accept allowing graced people to do quests, or even pick up corpses of fallen comrades, I don't believe in this particular scenario. Allowing him to moonbeam in I accept may be my fault despite the lag, since I knew the lagspikes left me vulnerable, and it was something which could happen, however slim the chances, yet I went into the stockroom, but not being able to do anything about it, since I couldn't harm him in any way, was extremely frustrating to me, since once I realised that he was abusing grace, all I could do was try and try to hit in the vain hopes that grace would drop and watch while he had a party in my stockroom.
There was a question before about limiting the things a person can do while graced. I believe the potential for abusing it is pretty high. Voron is ranked 744th and 15% my might. Considering I'm almost trans 7 things, and around Gifted-Fabled for the rest, he's not tiny at all.
I'm not quite sure what could be done, since not allowing a graced person to use magical transport or pick things up would be punishing those who haven't done anything wrong, but I'm hoping someone might have a few suggestions.
Thorgal and I then issued him.

Well this is just a thought, but what about preventing that particular scenario? Such as not allowing graced folks to steal from a players stockroom. Or perhaps a slightly broader change and protect stockrooms from magical transport. OR perhaps stealing negates your grace, leaving you vulernable to the wrath of the storekeeper. That, I think, would help prevent that sort of thing, or at least provide a decent deterrent.
Jadryga2005-10-26 17:22:45
The thing is, "stealing" can range anywhere from simply picking up an item or dominating/pooka'ing someone to give you things. Picking up/giving items on their own is harmless. I doubt there's a way to code the system to recognize the difference between simply picking up/giving and stealing. Stockrooms are protected from most forms of magical transport, there are eyes and monoliths for most, but moonbeam bypasses monoliths. I would have moved if I had noticed, but I didn't, cos my screen stopped due to the lagspike.
Unknown2005-10-26 17:23:07
I hope you contact Moondancer leadership about this. Some forms of theft are overlooked in the Moondancers, this isn't one of them.
Jadryga2005-10-26 17:26:01
I spoke to Shorlen about it, he said it wasn't specifically against their laws, it's merely frowned upon, and that they were discussing changing it, but it hadn't been done yet, he'd speak to the other Wisdoms about it.

As tacky as it is to abuse grace to steal, of all things (which he should have realized was up when you went to hit him), please do NOT post active issues.

First of all, you shouldn't be able to moonbeam to the stockroom. The fact you can do it through monoliths is imbalancing and asking for abuse. Stockrooms, manses...
Unknown2005-10-26 18:19:36
Let's not go into the entire let's nerf another skill thing, again. Moonbeam works on monoliths and is local area only. If it didn't work on monoliths, you might as well remove the skill all together. Can we try for -once- to let this be handled in an IC manner rather than ZOMG NERF!?

This is an alt made to cause trouble.
The Coven will deal with it, and is dealing with it.
Jadryga will get back what she has lost, even if Voron never logs on again, or we will at least come to a compromise about it.
If Voron decides to be uncoorperative about it, there's always kicking him out and enemying him, which is always fun because if he doesn't forget Moon in a timely manner (which would take Beam from him), it means a lot of unintentional res-killing
I do not appreciate Voron causing me to look at these forums again. They make me unhappy.

I've sent you a message, Jadryga.
And Shorlen, dear ... let me look at the forums for you.
What else upsets me, in addition to the action, in this case:
2005/10/23 13:26:26 - Tsuki inguilded Voron as a novice.
2005/10/23 13:33:19 - Tsuki > Voron joins us after having been a paladin, and
falls under category 3 for any advancements.
Where's a self-loathing smilie when you need one?
Edit: self-loathing is for doing something that's now given me yet another thing to deal with, which already took up about 4-5 hrs of time today

I mean seriously, where do you get this stuff. In Aetolia, every single person can get a prism tattoo that is the EXACT same thing as moonbeam. It goes through monoliths and not a single person to date has made cries about it like people do beam here... which actually takes longer.

However, the game mechanics and design in this instance are the same. How can you possibly argue that something that has been present in Achaea and Aetolia and Imperian (I think) is overpowered or ridiculous when after 4-5 years of being in other places, it was deemed just fine. If you see a beam/prism, you move out of the room - problem solved.
This is a prime example of: I screwed up. I didn't move... but I'm not at fault for X reason.
Unknown2005-10-26 20:47:57
I get "this stuff" from my head, not from another realms where I didn't play (well I had a character at Aetolia but you could hardly call it playing. If I sometimes write about something comparing it to other IRE games, it's some common knowledge, not detailed combat specifics).
And honestly, I don't care if it's been like that in Aetolia for 3 years or in Achaea for 5. I don't like it.
If I disconnect (and my ISP has actually been disconnecting me few times a day for some time) and my characters stays in the game for few minutes, someone can rob me blind. I know it's very unlikely to occur, but it can happen. It just happened to Jadryga, if she was lagging so much that disconnected, went to the bathroom, or someone distracted her IRL for a while, grace wouldn't even be a factor.
It's not like I want to nerf moonbeam. Actually, thinking about it, I'm just pissed we can't have 100% safe stockrooms. Let's talk about that. And some people are really pissed that they can't feel safe in their manses. That also should be solved.
EDIT: Well, in case of manses there's always this argument that they're cheap - therefore they don't have to be that great (safe). But they could be anyway.
EDIT 2: And there's always my old idea (posted in Ideas somewhere but there was no response ) of being able to put stuff for sale in your stockroom in chests, weapon racks etc (furniture) which can be closed with locks only you have the key for. You could also sort your wares that way, and it wouldn't just lie in heaps on the ground.

Hmm... make moonbeam and teleport aggressive is the best thing I can think of that would solve that. Really got to hate people who abuse grace like that.
