-Every- society has morals. It'd be ignorant to say they don't.
Diamondais2005-11-03 18:43:12
One society's morals will always be sacrificed for anothers. Thats the way things seem to work both in real life and in the Basin life. Ever noticed?
Serenwilde dispises Magnagoras and Glomdorings morals but they constantly put their own in high regard. Theyve also gone against Celest in the past.
Celest goes against others at times, the 'Light is all' thing that we see in religions today and in the past.
Magnagora seems to often want to dominate the Basin and bend it to its will.
Glomdoring 'Glory be to Glomdoring' slogan 'Fai Glomdoring!' slogan.
No matter where you go, this always happens. When the cities come out, if they do rather, it will be the same. When, or if, the next Commune comes out it will be the same.
Societies have their own morals, views and belief systems. Plain and simple.
It gets complex when you try pushing them onto others.

Quick question,
These 2 cities are yet to be released, and with them 2 elemental and 2 cosmic planes. I know Hallifax would be the Elemental plane of wind while Gaudiguch Fire, does anyone have any insight what the cosmic planes for these 2 cities will be like?

QUOTE
The city of Gaudiguch rose next, mostly built by the dracnari race, which devoted itself to the elemental plane of fire and the cosmic plane of the Vortex. So came the Pyromancers, masters of fire, and the Illuminati, Guardians of the Vortex. They created the nexus known as the Eternal Flame within their great pyramids.
The races of lucidian and trill built Hallifax, a city in the clouds, an architectural wonder of crystal spires and aeromantic engineering. Devoted to the elemental plane of air and the cosmic plane of the Continuum, they constructed the Matrix, a nexus of power that was a strange construct of gems and spiraling lines of power.

If Nil and Celestia are defined as tainted and untainted, I wonder what would define those 2 planes...

I suspect we're dealing with Order and Chaos.
By it's name, the Continuum is probably populated by being of order, and may have something to do with Time. The beings of order might be humanoids, or otherwise solid perfect geometric objects--think of the original modron concepts from 1st Edition Monster Manual 2--I think the picture of the trill with those orbiting gems might be a hint.
The magic of the Continuum might be based on commanding people, or by manipulation of time.
By contrasts, the Vortex deals with Chaos, chance, and probability/creativity. The vortex was described as being a breathing realm with colored skys, so it's probably constantly changing (and I suspect it might be maze-like or random). The Illuminati were secretive, so they'll probably have magics that can cloak things in secrecy. It might be at least a bit similar to the occultists in other IRE games. Even with the name Illuminati and what it's based upon, I'm kind of hoping they don't go to far into Discordianism--which is just to weird and humorous for my tastes.

I thought I might add to Karrah's lovely introduction that Clanhelp Eliz Tirita is up and running. If you'd like to join, just get in touch with any secretary, consul, or me.
Narsrim2005-11-06 14:52:49
I just want something else big to kill. I've done all 5 demon lords and 3 night avatars... I'll have Crow soon enough so that makes me out of stuff
Ashteru2005-11-06 14:59:12
Illuminati changed their own bodies...sounds like maybe they'll be guardians without ents but the skills to change themselves?
Diamondais2005-11-06 17:34:32
Why does the next two Cosmic planes have to be so clear cut? Chances are we wont know what theyre like till they get here. The histories dont say much about them, other than the Vortex would have been strange looking if Lolly hadnt just come down from Astral.
And the Dracnari were known for their care of animals, their abilities to train them. Possible that the Illuminati will have Beastmastery as well as the warrior class they had. I generally say 'assumptions make fools' but I dont know, the Guardian classes seems to share their secondary skill with the Warrior classes.

I dont know about you guys but im pretty excited either way for a new place to open along with a new skill set, ALTHOUGH I would be content if they just fixed our current ones.
thillieir2005-11-06 20:49:45
And I wouldn't be content because there's no place for a peace loving lucidian in the world as it is. Of course, one could just chalk it up to having an interesting world to live in, but as long as there's a chance of freeing the lost cities, that's what he'll be doing.

All those who work to return more cities to the Basin should die.

I don't mind the fact that Hallifax would practice slavery as Estarra mentioned they did have a caste system but this system was for the better of society.
If you read Roark's philosophical book it really sums up the ideal of what Hallifax might be in that light. There was democracy in Hallifax but democracy seems to have been more structure around prominent members of society.
Also what I find really intriguing about Hallifax is how two elder gods so totally opposite fell in love, fragmented, and their offspring you could say were drawn together in this symbiotic somewhat circular relationship. Hallifax was both beautiful and logical in that sense involving both sides of the human psyche in terms of outlooks on life.
A city floating in the clouds built with crystal defies gravity it is this I think that symbolizing their quest for infinite possibilities. Art and Science working together in a matrix working off each other. Art and physics worked together to create beauty in equal accord.
Perfection to a point of timelessness is more something I would like to see.

When you say it like that, it almost makes me want to quit Glomdoring, reincarnate into Trill, and go all Hallifax fanatic. Almost.
Edit: Go Gaudiguch!

This is why Hallifax is a thousand times better than that silly fire city.
thillieir2005-11-06 21:12:38
I must agree with Qaletaqa in this matter. Who needs light or taint when you have logic and beauty?

GO Chaos!

Im gonna laugh so hard if Gaudiguch doesnt stand for Chaos..
And Fire and Flame in itself doesnt have beauty? Watching a fire can be calming, its often used to help spread a calming feeling. Even the destruction Fire can wreck can be benificial.

Estarra never said the Guadiguch stood for Chaos: I believe she mentioned it vaguely here
