Chaos or freedom?
Chaos is too odd of a concept to really follow to all its logical points.
Freedom, and frivolty, and generall laid-back makes more sense to me.
edit: I should go look up Bablyon 5 plot points.

I'm debating which city to go to, but the more I read, the stronger I'm drawn to Hallifax...
Revan2005-11-06 21:31:13
Dag, Hallifax is not freedom. It's order, and would most likely be on the opposite spectrum of freedom. Guadi is more "freedom" tuned
Goyel2005-11-06 21:42:54
Dag was saying that Gaudiguch is not chaos, but its freedom.
Hallifax is not Chaos OR freedom .
I'm curious to see how alliances turn out... It will probably be Hallifax+Magnagora+Glomdoring, but I could see Gaudiguch+Magnagora (Seeing the taint as the transformation which the Illuminati love). Perhaps even Gaudiguch and Hallifax could make a third faction in the world.

I don't mind the fact that Hallifax would practice slavery as Estarra mentioned they did have a caste system but this system was for the better of society.
If you read Roark's philosophical book it really sums up the ideal of what Hallifax might be in that light. There was democracy in Hallifax but democracy seems to have been more structure around prominent members of society.
Also what I find really intriguing about Hallifax is how two elder gods so totally opposite fell in love, fragmented, and their offspring you could say were drawn together in this symbiotic somewhat circular relationship. Hallifax was both beautiful and logical in that sense involving both sides of the human psyche in terms of outlooks on life.
A city floating in the clouds built with crystal defies gravity it is this I think that symbolizing their quest for infinite possibilities. Art and Science working together in a matrix working off each other. Art and physics worked together to create beauty in equal accord.
Perfection to a point of timelessness is more something I would like to see.

I'm viewing Hallifaxian gover't as a mix between Spartan and Athenian gov't. More towards Athenian in structure, although probably more Spartan in some ideals.
The whole, state over the individual, democracy, however slavery is allowed. I'm not really sure if it's forced onto the conquered, but I imagine it's more Athenian slavery than Spartan slavery.
That is, Athenians had slavery - spartans enslaved their conquered.

No freedom. Noooo freedom. Freedom bad. Ashtan on Achaea was about Freedom. That was bad. It was all You have the Freedom to take away someone else's freedom as long as they acknowledge that they had the freedom that you just took away. It was weird and nonsensical. No Lusternian Ashtans
And I hope Gaudiguch and Glomdoring don't get into a fight, because I really like the name Gaudiguch.
G names representin', yo.
Qaletaqa2005-11-06 22:25:25
I think the potential of Lusternia politics can only really be seen if everyone actually researches some old societies that have nothing to do with IRE games. Such as Ashtan in that sense. All the cities really became rather similar towards the end of when I left.
Unknown2005-11-07 00:38:51
Damn you people are already deciding the alliances of the cities even before the plot has a chance to develop. Because Gaudiguch and Hallifax will add another dimension to the realm (instead of just Good vs. Evil, and the half-hearted City vs. Commune), you can't really expect either of them to be fixed to a certain side.
I don't think Hallifax and Gaudiguch will be as "extreme" as everyone seems to think they'd be. What I think would work in Hallifax is a caste system. Gaudiguch cannot be as chaotic as people would think, as there needs to be a certain order to any city as large as Gaudiguch.

thillieir2005-11-07 20:30:42
Indeed. Who's to say Hallifax will not reject both Magnagora and Celest, or embrace both equally? Or perhaps Hallifax and Gaudiguch will come to understand that being rivals to one another is silly and that they should instead ally and ignore this silly Taint war? Gaudiguch, at least, has members of all societies working to free it, and the Eliz Tirita is certainly working towards that goal, as new as it is. To ally with light or taint would be to destroy the identity of the cities, and who wants that? Let the cities come to power before you begin your judgement.
Narsrim2005-11-07 21:06:29
Maybe Gaudiguch will have a baby crib in it... so when Magnagora locks up a Serenwilde colt in its zoo, Gaudiguch can lock up the baby?

The baby is used as a sacrifice to raise Crow. In the old quest.
Diamondais2005-11-07 22:48:20
Narsrim..why would they need the baby? Glomdoring was the only place that needed the baby and then it was only for one part.
Magnagora I guess was doing a 'Taint help Taint' thing it seems.
I may be wrong

You must also remember that when Hallifax returns, Hallifaxian will be hostile to Magnagora and the Taint. The Taint was the main reason why Hallifax frantically started a series of actions which eventually resulted in freezing Gaudiguch and Hallifax in time.

Does that mean us "tainted" people aren't welcome to join?

No, it just means that Hallifax would potentially be hostile to Magnagora as a society. I don't think individuals will be under scrutiny.
Revan2005-11-08 03:27:36
Actually, I would think Hallifax would ally or at least be amiable with whoever's a super-power. Whether that be Serenwilde or Mag... who knows? It -may- be Seren, under extrenuating circumstances due to its relative distance.
Narsrim2005-11-08 03:29:47
I think it will suck if we have another party added to the "alliance" wars. I'd rather we have anything than
Celest + Gauriduch + Serenwilde versus Hallifax, Glomdoring, Magnagora or watever.

Athana2005-11-08 03:34:59
Yeah, I'm really hoping that they just kinda stick to doing their own thing and not try to ally with anyone
