Edit: "without alot of proof" = without enough info to win us the game.

I just think that unless we're going to wrongly lynch the scryer, he shouldn't come out, as there're a lot of chances we don't have any protector.
If the scrier knows there's a protector (because he scried him) or somebody we trust can say we have a protector, then the scrier would be safer.
But as I've repeated endlessly, I would advice against scrier claiming unless in dire need because we really need the scrier skills and we might be low on protectos.
Iridiel2005-11-21 15:32:42
And I wonder, why disagreeing brings me a FoS? I just think that we should be as careful as possible, and the scryer should try to push us gently into lynching the right person but without saying "yeah, I am the scryer, believe me" because, chances are, we will think he's mafia and will ignore him, or mafia will go and kill him after the lynch.
Xenthos2005-11-21 15:41:37
Iridiel, you've played this game before. You know that's not how the scrier works, they don't get told the role... just guilty / innocent.

If a scrier DOESN'T come out eventually, when they feel they are ready, we might as well not even have one... since all we are doing is going off of gut feelings and instincts anyways. If any remaining protectors are dead at that point because they claimed, then that scrier is definitely 100% screwed.

Gently pushing in the right direction can work (it can backfire as well), but trying to get any remaining protectors killed just looks REALLY odd. That's where a FOS comes from.
Iridiel2005-11-21 16:36:34
I failed to clarify then, and had the wrong idea a scrier could know the role of somebody. I was referring that unless the scrier has the security there is a protector there to protect him or her, then he should not claim (because he will be prime target for next night).
My apologies.
Due to the fact that we have not killed any mafia yet, I am being very cautious about the possibility of putting a scryer on the line of fire, and so I suggest he takes his role as anonimously as possible, and stays in the shadows. At least, until he can say "this and that are mafia, I checked them" even if he is killed afterwards, we would have won the game.
Iridiel2005-11-21 16:37:36
And I have played a very simple version of this game, without psicopaths and the like. Do not know if Ibby has any surprise in this one for us...
Xenthos2005-11-21 16:45:41
Um, this is the advanced game, you can bet there are more surprises waiting for us. Such as the unnamed ur'Guard this round.
Cwin2005-11-21 22:34:28
Of all of the roles out there, the protector is the last one that needs to show thier hand, since the second they do they'll get wiped up by the mafia. Even the scryer comming out early can work (Check out TWG 4 for a pretty ok example) compared to the protector even HINTING at everything being ok.

Xenthos explained my FoS well. Your request threw a very violent red flag for me. That, along with the fact that I'm trying ot look at the folks who havn't gotten screwtinized to nil and back brings the FoS.

Unvote Kiarlea

I'm at a loss as to how and proceed at this point. However, I do feel a bit more assured of my regards to the people talking instead of those who are not.

As a general note about myself, I'm on a holiday break cursed to deal with dialup, which DESPISES forums. My responses henceforth may be slower than normal.

What's your service provider? Both of mine do just fine reading forums on 28.8 (well, not just fine... it's very slow with all those pictures around, but this thread's pretty quick). I dunno, it sounds more like an excuse than an actual reason, though your ISP may just have a lot more issues for some reason.
Narsrim2005-11-21 23:09:32
Perhaps I'm just impatient, but I'm used to everything instantly appearing versus waiting for 2-3 minutes. But that wasn't really why I wouldn't be on forums so much. Note that I'm on holiday break... which I spend visiting family and staying with family that I get to see 1-2 times a year.
Iridiel2005-11-22 09:26:05
My impressions, so far:
- Kiarlea: Too noisy to be a mafia
- Suhnaye: Bit of a gut feeling, but nothing really big
- Xenthos: Reasonable
- Cwin: Sorry, I'll always look at you as tainted, you're a good player sad.gif
- Wesmin: So much inactivity is calling my attention
- Sylphas: Another one staying in the shadows
- Nasrim: Reasonable as well

So, I am at a complete loss at who might be a mafia sad.gif

I'll be busy then have limited access for the rest of the week. Laneth will be about to handle things until I return.
Kiarlea2005-11-22 09:56:24
I'm on 28.8k too, heh, it only takes like a minute to load, usually, especially with signatures off.

On the bright side, three weeks over Christmas of no sharing my connection, and probably a faster one! Woot! *glee*

Anyhows... nothing's changed yet, Narsrim only seems to have backed off because it was making him look worse happy.gif

*cracks whip* no funny business kids.
Sylphas2005-11-22 10:58:20
In the shadows? -shrug- Only reason I posted so much last game was a post restriction, I'm usually quieter. Should I start pointing at random and spending all my time thinking up things to say? I haven't got much of a clue at this point, so I've gotten quiet. Take it as you will. I'm -usually- quiet in games.
Iridiel2005-11-22 11:09:30
Well, there's two options:
- We share information, try to get to a mafia and lynch him.
- We stay at day 2 until Ibby gets bored and sets a deadline.
Xenthos2005-11-22 21:08:43
I'm going with a vote: Wesmin. angry.gif And Sylphas, being quiet doesn't help us at ALL. I start off silent as well, but after a point, it's conterproductive. We're at that point now, hence the vote on Wesmin.

If all of us don't say anything, we get a deadline imposed, and we're forced to vote knowing *exactly what we do now*. I personally want more information before we have to lynch somebody.
Cwin2005-11-22 21:25:47
It's alright, Iridiel. I have to shut off the gut instict I have to vote/scry/whatever Xenthos and Quid every game I play. The best way to deal with it is to say "If this was some other person how would I feel".

Xenthos' comments about Wesmin makes the most sense. I think I'll join in with a Vote: Wesmin.
