Is there any difference in cultural score between published books of decent length and value, and the huge number of essentially worthless pamphlets being published in great quantity?
Sylphas2005-10-29 07:46:24
Don't think so.
Corr2005-10-29 08:03:50
The difference is with prestige books.
1 good book is worth 3 or 5 bad books I think.

I am afraid the Powers that Be have decided that reading books without checking them out will not be implemented, which is a shame but I was told it was just too much work to code.
Apart from this, i've seen the following things:
* Bigger books should count heavier toward library size.
(This is abusable if not done properly, so we'll have to discuss if and how)
* Library Logs
As for the Scholars appearing in your library, this would be a double gain: you already gain massive amounts of power for having the biggest library, why would you also want to start with a headstart in scholars? That is a bit unfair as the Scholars are supposed to be a way in which one library can outsmart the other and steal Cultural Centre (As Magnagora so greatly demonstrated).

Maybe make the autoscholars not actually count for power, just for aesthetics and RP?
Add to critiques a suggested value. If someone publishes a small pamphlet, that's a bit handy, you suggest a low value. If someone publishes a hefty tome, full of good stuff, you suggest a high value. If someone publishes something that is just barely minimum quality, you suggest a really low value. These would be suggestions only, and the admin who do critiques would decide the final value.

As Ialie said, the copies disappearing was the largest concern, because it has resulted in essentially empty libraries.
On the book information, I would like to see:
A library log of checkouts would also be nice, so we can keep an eye on what's being checked out often, and see if copies need to be made.

Another one: Paging on CATALOG. As it is, the lists of scholarly and literary works are getting pretty long, and not having it broken into chunks is wild. Paging on Projects would also be nice.

Yes, they really need to break it down. I got uber spammed when I went looking for Aquamancer stuff. That is probably one of the things that will deter interest in the library. Novices will go in, see all the spam, and go running.

Small suggestion.... Do a word count for the books. If the word count is being abused, it would be critiqued as such.
Dickens got paid by the word, why can't we?

I'm pretty sure no one here can write like Dickens.

Another suggestion(s):
- Can Library aides not receive automatic secret-level access? I'd prefer to issue them cards regularly.
- Can issuing/revoking cards be recorded in the citylogs?
