Some of my keys are sticking and I have to hit it twice or so for it to work.. How can I fix this? >_< It's so aggravating to not be thinking about it and have my conversations look like I can't type.

If you talk to me and you see letters missing.. it's not my fault.. my keyboard is being a buthead.. sad.gif

it sounds like someone spilt liquid into your keyboard.

The best way to fix it is by taking USD $25 to your local computer store and buying a new keyboard.
Acrune2005-10-31 01:01:36
Yeah, keyboards are cheap, just buy a new one. Or take a picture of your keyboard, then pry all the keys off and try to clean it. Personally, I'd just rather spend the money.

Pry all the keys off and clean it. Works fine with me.
Joli2005-10-31 01:09:13
I did that when I split the liquid on it though.. still sticks.
Vix2005-10-31 01:12:54
Must not have cleaned it well enough.
Joli2005-10-31 01:18:03
Lemme redo it and see if it fixes it.
Asarnil2005-10-31 01:40:01
1) Remove the keyboard from the computer.
2) Take all the keys off, clean each one individually, not forgetting to clean underneath as well as the tops sides.
3) Unscrew the keyboard and clean all the inside plastic areas, start with a dry paintbrush to get rid of all the dust and the like that may have accumulated, followed with something like window cleaner or whatever liquid you use to clean to remove all the muck.
4) Once all traces of dirt and liquid is removed, rebuild the keyboard, plug into the computer and turn the computer back on.

If stickyness persists, please see a doctor.

Ya and be careful not to spray cleaner into those little hole things underneath the keys...I'm dumb sometimes

joli,

Keyboards, many many years ago, were user serviceable parts. Individual buttons, wires soldered together between them or mounted on an actual circuit board.

These days, the "buttons" is just two sheets of plastic membrane. You can't 'easily' separate them and actually expect the keyboard to work again. Any kind of liquid can corrode the 'drawn' lines on the plastic.

Really, you'll have nothing but trouble, even if you manage to clean it today. Just buy a $25 keyboard, be happy it works, then pull the old one apart to see how cheap they look. smile.gif

I went and stole my keyboard, so my dad doesn't beat me for breaking the other... I used the power of my fist to jam the space key back into place.. then realized it was in the wrong way, so I took it out again and whammed it in the other way.. and somewhere in between the ramming and beating I lost the spring for the space and so it doesn't work anymore..

but my keyboard is a quiet one so it doesn't fill the house with little tapping noises!

Spray cleaner + anything electric = bad mojo
Kiarlea2005-10-31 04:47:17
Unscrew the keyboard and pull the plastic sheets apart and wipe them over with a soft cloth. Dampen the cloth if it's sticky, and let them dry before you put em back together smile.gif

Fixed mine till next time something went wrong with it. Don't touch the keys (especially the spacebar) unless the key itself is sticking. Get a can of compressed air with a tiny hose thingy on it and use that to clean under the keys instead. Space bar/shift keys are hell to put back in properly.

Or, just buy a new keyboard. But that sucks. tongue.gif

well.. I will fix the space key once I find the spring. Until then I am using my keyboard which is better anyway..

morale of the story.. don't eat around the computer and don't use force to fix things.

Tried and true method that myself and older computer builders have used for years. Hook up secondary keyboard, pull keys off primary keyboard, put keys in a bucket of soapy water, put keyboard in shower, spray down with hot water until clean, let dry for 24 hours.

Now I bet you will hear gasps of shock and astonishment from new age kids who think "OMG you can't put water on a keyboard." but quite frankly this method has been used for years and years.

If you have one of those multimedia keyboards though, just buy a new one.

you also need to find whoever has been masturbating to internet porn and get them to stop...sticky keys are bad
Iridiel2005-10-31 09:13:11
Go Gregori!!
I didn't dare to suggest that for fear they would think I was trying to make fun of Joli, but it has worked for all my keywoards (I have two computers at home, two at my parents home) but the laptop.

Laptop keyboards and those nifty moder keyboards wich are like laptop keyboards with the keys in the right places are just not the effort to mend. Just buy another.

Actually the best way to clean a keyboard is to put it in the dishwasher.

What, Hajamin is crazy you say? Anyone that is certified in repair(like I am, both civilian and military) can tell you keyboards are designed to be able to handle water. Just let it air dry COMPLETELY before using it again. I clean mine this way every couple month, as I live at it so it gets pretty dirty.

Sounds almost like concussion/amnesia. *snicker*

Well, except you have to hit keys twice, and not just have to enter commands twice, but that's besides the point.
