Grief Players: How should we handle them?

1% (who this is targetted at) can drive the other 99% away from the game. Problem much? Hmmm... no, it can't be!

If 99% of Lusternia's playerbase refrain from excessive violence, what exactly is the problem?  smile.gif

That one percent

Such discrimination! biggrin.gif

It's true. I hardly see players fleeing Lusternia in droves from the mighty Narsrim. How many characters in Lusternia have been accused of griefing and driving players away? I could name a few. The point is, Lusternia is pretty addictive and fun at times. People stick around. I'm convinced that the game will continue to flourish and atttract more players.

When you spend 95% of your online time defending against raiders or potential raiding, it starts to lose a heck of a lot of its charm. happy.gif

We've all been there, Xenthos. Your point?

The point is that not getting to quite that stage is a very good thing. happy.gif

I'm not quite sure what you're complaining about, this would also work to stop the same thing towards you... unless you're just thinking that you're strong enough to not have to worry about it any more, just dish out the punishment?
Malicia2005-11-05 02:07:06
I'm not complaining about anything other than the divine peacing those that certain enemies would consider 'griefers'. It's not right. It has nothing to do with being strong enough to deal with anything in game.

Let's just bring in the achaean pk rules and everyone will be happy. We'll never have to see any of those 'So and so killed me, argh!' threads on forums. Wouldn't that be neat?

It doesn't have anything to do with who "certain enemies consider 'griefers'". It deals entirely with who the ADMINISTRATION see as griefers.

It would seem a few people are feeling a bit guilty! Or, just worried in general. This is NOT about everyday normal actions.

Perhaps it has yet to make sense - the administration telling someone to cool it (yes, a warning first) would be to someone who is excessively 'griefing' - to the point of driving players away, someone who is over the top. Yes, this would be rare - very rare, perhaps 1 or 2 players in a series of *months* or even *years* if things go well, from the entire games population. And no, it would not be a player decision, it would be by the administration.

If you are worried you're going to be tagged, that might be your conscience telling you to cool it a bit. Which isn't always a bad thing, warnings, punishments, or not.

I think some of us are just worried about what will be defined as 'griefing'. In fact, I was called a 'griefer' just yesterday for supposedly instigating a war between Glomdoring and Serenwilde, and was told over AIM so many people will quit the game because of fighting - them among them.

Which kind of bugs me. But anyway.

I don't mind it, and would be all for it, in fact.
Unknown2005-11-05 03:00:31
As an example, my initial dreamweaving in the Glomdoring (visions, trying to convert people) would get the Norns warning me instead of a god actually trying to forcibly affect Elryn IC, and then if I continued there would be the punishment. If an in-game god reacted though, it would be RP and not a signal to change behaviour. Is that right?

I'd far prefer that in most cases. A clear warning about what isn't acceptable OOCly is much easier to interpret than a reaction by an IC God that could either be taken as RP or as administrative.

Not all IC gods are as awesome as Viravain, after all.

You see a lot of people who have departed recently, for various internal reasons that have nothing to do with the events of those days.

I have a question: how would you know how many people disappeared in those days and never returned? I do, because I had to remove some of them from being secretary of the Ebonguard. Want me to list a few? Here...

Tehn.
Junee.
Barbosa.
Drayde.
Allaris.
Luciano.
Tassadar.
Bulvai.
Alshara.
Shishi.
Icotsu.
Amaurak.

Note that none of these are novices- they all graduated, some of them even went to higher guild ranks. They're not big names, no- why? Um, duh, I think that's the point of this thread.
