... So if -you- want them dead, why should someone be paid to kill them for you, it will just induce more fighting, and make Lusternia more based around who's a better fighter.

An assassin system would make the game revolve less around who's a better fighter, since people who aren't good at fighting would be able to stand up to tanky people like, say, Murphy. Having gold would actually matter, since gold would buy other people's deaths. Besides, would give people who are good at fighting a new source of income.

So instead of actually encouraging people to be able to fight, we'd instead encourage people to waste their gold and get people like Narsrim or Murphy to go kill people we dont like on a whim.

"Getting good at fighting" means buying around 500-600 credits and working on a curing system. Not everyone can/will do that.
Unknown2005-11-06 04:19:35
Aesyra did it, Alger's done it, and so have a few other people, you just need to be dedicated. Without buying credits that is
Verithrax2005-11-06 04:25:12
Again, not everyone is willing to go through all this. Besides, both of those people did it during open beta/early first year, when buying IC credits was much easier. Besides, the point is that there is too much emphasis on fighting skill. It gets into roleplay, politics, and everything.

I'd suggest if you can't kill someone, find other ways to seek your revenge.
Getting the Big Guys to do it for you is going to be incredibly frustrating for your victims.

That's the point.

Hrm, yeah, that's a great thing to say, cant kill someone, dont both actually trying to think of a way to beat them, just hire uberdeathlordofpain to kill them for you, for a fee of too much to imagine, and more then you'll probably have, it's like we're killing them for you, you get all the bad things, and we get the exp and your gold, victimless situation.

You're just afraid I'll get Murphy on you. *sagenod*
Seriously, it's a way of making other kinds of power (Gold, political positions, etc) matter more. You can't use money to kill anyone in Lust, and that's unrealistic.
Unknown2005-11-06 04:46:46
.. yes you can, i mean with enough gold, i could probably get Murphy to kill someone, for me, but the fact that, the person who kills them gets away scott free, with experiance, and the hirer doesn't actually need status to get revenge, is stupid.

That's the point of an assassing system, would make things fairer. The person who hires an assassin gets status, as if he did the actual killing. The assassin is considered a weapon wielded by the contractor. Basically, the system means that a weak person, with enough gold, can kill anyone. Meaning that the tanky guys who trans their guild skills and reach Titan won't be so obscenely immune to 80-90% of the playerbase.

Strength in numbers.
Verithrax2005-11-06 04:54:03
When Murphy, et al, routinely survive being ganged up by 5+ other people? I think not.

...how did this last page have anything whatsoever to do with finding good ideas from other games to implement here? I understand you want Assassin, I understand the rest of us don't. Opinions won't change anything here, if you'd like to discuss it please make a different thread.
On topic, I've always wanted diversification of weaponry. Specialization in weapons is neat, but I want a staff fighter or claw fighter, perhaps some kind of pole arm based fighter. I'd like to see some unique weapons that really help to make a character stand out, not just another axe, flail, katana, or rapier. Culled primarily from DragonRealms, land of many weapons.

Gaudiguch should bring out a polearms specialization, or so i thought they would, and Ackleberry could have a staves type weapons one. I mean a huge ass bear wielding a steel pole could hurt alot.
Verithrax2005-11-06 05:49:23
I want an archetype that uses some sort of ritual weapon that have to be made through a special procedure, like the Idras in Imperian, which make their own knives. Those are made of bones, and the stronger the creature that's butchered to get the bones, the better the resulting knife.
Unknown2005-11-06 05:51:26
Yeah, i can just imagine people walking around with Supernal/Demon lord/avatar made ones of those.

Or Astral critters. Imperian has obscenely powerful denizens too. And Demons/Angels are great bashing, just ask Kalo.
