Oh, by the way.

Neither Nil nor Celestia are places of the afterlife.

The closest thing I've found to an afterlife is the void.

And i'd love to see similarities that are not purely cosmetic (no pun intended)

I should also point out that demons did exist before the coming of Nil, as Lolly mentioned "like demons in a children's book".

I have more ideas, but I'll save that for a scroll and keep it in game.

Silly Guido. I hate knowing who the alts of others are, although I'm careful not to treat them any differently.

I nearly fell over when I found out about Kalo, heh.
Cwin2005-11-05 14:30:57
I don't think the 'what the nil' statment is a reference to the afterlife ala 'what the hell'. Nil is, to many, the ugliest, darkest, corrupted place in the Basin. For many, being thrown into Nil would mean their death. As such, phrases like "go to Nil!" work in that context.

Though I think Magnagorans should be using Celestia for their phrases. There's NO reason for anyone outside Celest to think of the angels there as anything worthwhile, at best just above demons for 'badness'.
Malicia2005-11-05 14:37:59
The phrase 'Go to Celestia' isn't as fulfilling as 'Go to Nil!' What? So you're telling me to go to a happy place with cherubs and bubbles floating around? Ok!

I'm impressed. Keep up the good work.

I think the phrase "What the Nil" is appropriate, because Nil is a place of change and unexpected things. The phrase expresses appropriately a sense of surprise or the unexpected, as I imagine anyone who is not familiar with the demons or landscape of Nil would be surprised to see a place so unlike anywhere else in the Planes.

I'm attempting to phase in a few more interesting curses and insults.

"By Dynara.." and "Ugly as the Destroyer's Handmaidens.." are just a few! XD "What in the Creator's name.." is so much better than "WtN?" (which I've seen, to my own great sadness))
Unknown2005-11-05 23:34:55
Well Nil and stuff depends on where your from really. I just prefer to use stuff like, "For the love of all things evil, impure and otherwise tainted" but then again, i am a Nihilist.
Unknown2005-11-05 23:45:56
'Nil' makes sense for everyone except perhaps Magnagora, although due to the widespread use of the term I imagine most Magnagorans would pick it up and use it as well without giving much thought to it.

To be fair swearing has never made much sense. Take WTF.. the F component is hardly unpleasant....

... though I guess it depends on what the F is referring to.
Unknown2005-11-05 23:58:55
'Go to Hell' makes sense, because Hell is generally considered a very, very bad place to be.

Nil is also a pretty nasty place, so it stands.

I'm seen Achaean carryovers accidentally say "Foozle" in their WTFs... sleep.gif
Stangmar2005-11-06 13:55:55
heh, Achaea had a 'Go to hell and die!' emote.
Daganev2005-11-07 02:23:08
"Go to Celestia!" doesn't work because its too many syllables.

In Imperian they say "Go to Dis!" which is actually the underworld.

I think Nil gets the phrase just because its the only one thats so short, to be honest.

By the Nine?
Daganev2005-11-07 02:33:23
I'd say "Go get eaten by Magnora" but I suspect most people would misread that.

what did guido do so wronge?
i liked him. i don't know why so many people hated him(well, IC i can understand why), i thought he was a really good rp'r and such.
Unknown2005-11-07 03:06:16
I'm a good RPer, but at the same time can't help but undermine the game's RP.

Paradoxes are fun!
Diamondais2005-11-07 03:54:06
Probably cause he can be annoying, his first run in with Dia resulted in her watching her sons death and then getting killed herself dry.gif
