As a side note: if someone's description is really poor (5'8" faeling, or 6' faeling, etc...), and you tell them that they should look into changing it because it's not at all accurate... if their response is, "I know," and then nothing changes, what can you do? Issue them for not being in RP, or just grimace and bear it?
Because it really does ruin the atmosphere, for me at least... a faeling taller than elfen?

I know it's not the best way to handle it, but... Sometimes I make a show of looking at them, and then roll my eyes.
If I have novices that I am training that have horrible descriptions, I try to explain the rules and help them to rewrite it. I had one like that yesterday, but he has a bad habit of flowing off on you, and then he had to leave before I could check it. His description was something like "is surrounded by an aura of power. When you look at him, you can feel the power radiating from his piercing eyes. You have a feeling that you want to do anything you can for him."
So yeah, I had to make him change that. Hehe.
As an afterthought, we have the Appropriate Name police. How about the Appropriate description police? Maybe there should be more rules about descriptions listed in Help Description, so people will know right from the start what is and is not acceptable?

Threaten to prolong their novice time until they change it?
Cairam2005-11-22 18:46:46
Could do that, but when they're no longer novices, and they change it back...

Shadowcasters aren't in my guild, nor are they novices any more. Not a whole lot I can do, except threaten to communedisfavour (readlog glomdoring: so and so was disfavoured for having a really poor description. Thank you!). I have the feeling if I did that, I'd be the one getting in trouble for using IC punishments.
Cairam2005-11-22 18:49:15
That would be funny.
Readlog Glomdoring: So and so was commune disfavoured for being taller than me. I'm elfen, he's faeling, you do the math.

I think if it's a matter of a faeling being 6 feet tall and a taurian 0.5 feet.. that should be okay.
Aiwendil2005-11-28 13:03:14
I always have trouble telling novices ingame that they have bad descriptions. Here's the last 2 lines I said.
To someone with a messed up description: "You look odd."
To someone with no description: "You look... non-descript."
They both got what I said without a tell needed.

Adblocked the sig. Not everyone has the bandwidth to watch a long gif movie every time you post something.

He is a nimble faeling and is actually a very odd furrikin. Silver fur coats his
snout and the tip of his tail, whereas black fur coats the remainder of his
body. His green eyes provide him with perfect night vision, and they glow
brightly in the dark, which is often because he tends to stick to the shadows.
His claws glow a crystal-like emerald, and when he slashes through the air, a
green flash of claws show up at a distance. Gray fur-hair pokes out in front of
his eyes. His voice echoes when he yells.

I hate to hijack the thread here (Yeah, right), but what would you consider to be a good description? Verithrax's desc is decent, but the best desc I ever wrote for an IRE game has to be my Aetolia desc:
QUOTE
He is an undead Human and is is tall, pale, and slender. His long midnight black hair, which he wears in a braid reaching to his lower back, contrasts sharply with the ghastly white of his skin, marked by the short goatee standingunder his thin, nearly lipless mouth which opens occasionally to show an eerie smile of sharpened white teeth. Above it sits a pointed nose, complementing his sharp, hawk-like features and bright red eyes which glow slightly. On his forehead is a pronounced scar in the shape of a thirteen-pointed star, seemingly the result of a magically produced wound that never quite healed; under the right lighting, it glows an eerie green. His limbs are gracious and
long, and he stands a good six feet above the ground, his breathless body strangely still. His skin is somewhat translucent, and shows veins and arteriesthat do not pulse in some places. He emanates an aura of profound despair and sorrow, his face constantly locked in a near-grimace of concentration and pain.

Lemme dig up three special ones from Glom:
He is a burly tae'dae and and proud to be one. He is a young Ebonguard warrior
cover with white fur which reflects the light of the moon when exposed to it.
His eyes are dark blue, full of life and hope, and he is bulky and strong much
like many other of his specie. His Uncle commited suiside after becoming insane
and killing his whole company as well as some innocent people found around at
the time. It is said that the cause of his insanity was the death of his wife,
whom was killed by a heartless rouge and now descriptedperson is becoming stronger everyday
and it set to find this assasin and get revenge for his uncle and aunt. He is
wearing a plain grey tunic.
She is a fierce dracnari and is tall. She is amazingly prideful, and this has
gotten her into many tough situations. Her one dream is to become as strong as
possible. Her scales are a strange ivory color, something not seen before in a
Dracnari. This might mean she has something more in her... She is wearing plain
grey trousers, a simple white cotton blouse, a pair of elegant white satin
shoes, and an entrancing red rose.
He is a feathered trill and seems shy and harmless. He dosent trust in himself,
having no one he lones around in shadows,. He is wearing a silver torc.

Soll tells you, "'She is a graceful high elfen and her chest sticks out from her body really far, and you fall in love with her straight away. Her red lips draw you in and make you think crude thoughts about you, but you slap yourself out of it. Her hourglass body draws those temptations into your mind again though. You would love this girl if she let you.'"
