I object to the notion that I'm "better" than the people I listed.

By "us," I am referring to the run-of-the-mill Faethorn group, which is a few mid-level Glomdoring fighters who go in, get a few kills and then leave/get driven out. I was not referring to that list.

And I don't think you can object to the notion that you're better than a couple of mid-level combatants- you even said in another thread that you'd rather go up against ten of them than Ethelon.

Ultimately, this is a game where everybody is supposed to have fun--what actions do some players take that could be considered poor sportsmanship?

Not returning expensive or important items that were taken from the other guy by some means other than intentional, counterable/avoidable theft. The most notorious cases are dropped weapons, representing tens of thousands of coins, and dozens of hours, invested. They are taken by sheer happenstance, and some could argue by virtue of bugs (like the fact that fist sigils do nearly nothing, and slapknuckle ignores them entirely). This is especially poor sportsmanship when its effects are unfairly distributed over the population -- again suggesting the case of dropped weapons.

Attacking someone who is afk, lagged, just returning from a disconnect, etc., knowingly.

Preventing people from doing things they enjoy on a regular, consistent basis, for tactical reasons.

Before we can judge what's 'sportsmanlike' other than the more obvious matters (bug abuse, exploitation, ext.) you have to look at what the actual goals of each group should be. After all, knocking someone to the ground is unsportsmanlike in basketball, but dead-set required in american football. Knocking someone till they are hurt and possibly needing medical assistance is wrong in most sports but the main goal of Boxing.

Thus we get to Lusternia. When Serenwilde looks at Glomdoring and says "Oh yah, it's on!" what is their goal on an OOC level? How do they 'win' in this game?

If it's by slaughtering all that is Glomdoring then the Champion jumping in and killing every non-novice player/NPC is part of that goal and, thus, 'a part of the sport'.

If the goal is to kill Crow and keep him dead then the prior action would be going too far most of the time (since it's rarely required to get to Crow) BUT waiting until the best time, slaughtering the guards, and taking out crow and everyone who defends him is within lines. So would hunting any player that tries to revive him later (as it is, if Glomdoring can't get around Serenwilde to raise Crow, how can they truly expect to keep crow alive after the raising? Also, why should Serenwilde allow another raising if it just means going for the kill all over again)?

Once you set a team with the goals and general rules, you allow them to do any action within those rules to get to that goal. Actions that break the rules or have little to do with the goal and more to do with anger/pissing people off is unsportsmanlike. Taking advantage of legal actions for the best benifit may stink for the losing team but is NOT unsportsmanlike behavior.

As to what the nations of Lusternia should not do to enemies..it depends on
what those nations SHOULD be doing, and honestly I'm still confused about that.

Just working with the definition of sportmanship, does anyone want this for their enemies? Who wants to be courteous and fair to your diametric foe?

Taking a real life war as an example... Half of America gets pissed off if its seen that Americans torture our enemies.

So yes, many people its proper to be fair and courtous to your enemies. The English were notorious for this.

Infact, old style war was always done with a courtious meeting of leaders before the battle. Sometimes they would even make sure to not attack the other leaders.

So yeah, if you have any feelings that sportsmanship is something that is a good thing, then you would use it against your worst enemies as well.

Infact, I think it would be awesome if we actually roleplayed the time period and made arangments as to when and where we were to fight.

Having a few people carrying flags who don't get shot at and are instead captured and teased as the flag is burned. (i.e. standing around the questers without hurting them, but locking them into a room with icewalls and mocking them)

It would be nice if Leaders actually got together and said "We want X and we are going to fight you for it at such and such time.. bring your best warriors"

Ahh the civility of the brutal ages.
