- You can now color custom emotes with CONFIG COLOR

You'll all be glad to know, that you can now direct custom emotes with
the EMOTE command.
IE:

I want to smile and bow at Gretel, so:
EMOTE smiles at $gretel, and bows gracefully.
Gretel would see: Eceru smiles at you, and bows gracefully.
Everyone else would see: Eceru smiles at Gretel, and bows gracefully.

There are a few other things you can do with targetted emotes, and you
can find the details in HELP EMOTE.

The "forms" idea I brought up...

2.10 Webs

Webs exist as groups of like-minded individuals, providing them with a channel
to communicate with. Webs can be used to organise raids, hunting trips,
private wedding parties, or whatever your imagination requires.

Syntax:

  WEB INVITE
    - Invite a person into your web. If you are not in a web, a new one will
be created when the person accepts. Webs can be as small as two people,
or as large as two hundred.
  WEB ACCEPT
    - Accept a person's invitation into a web.
  WEBWHO|WWHO
    - Displays a list of people in your web that are currently online.
  WEB MEMBERS
    - Displays a list of all of the people in your web.
  WEBTELL|WT
    - Send a message to all of the people in your web that are online.
  WEBTELLOFF|WTOFF
    - Turn your web-tell channel off.
  WEBTELLON|WTON
    - Turn your web-tell channel on.
  WEB QUIT
    - Leave your current web.

If you are in a web, and you or one of the other members of the web kill a
mobile, all members of the web in the room will receive a share of the
experience for the mobile kill.

Less shout nonsense!

We have implemented the following change to shouts:

- Shouts will only be heard in the area you are standing in, or in
adjacent areas to the area you are standing in. Yells will still be
heard only in the area you are standing in.

And lastly, it would be nice to have config daynight on/off. It makes text white during the day, and grey at night.

I've been vacillating on the 'party' feature (i.e., anyone able to form 'parties' with chat channels and replacing entourage for xp-sharing during bashing), mostly because I don't want covens and mindlinks to become superfluous. If we do have a party feature, I'd want to strengthen covens and mindlinks, though I'm not sure how we'd do that. I'm interested in your thoughts.

Lusternia has always had coloring for emotes. I do like the idea of targetable custom emotes.

For now, I don't mind shouts being heard continent-wide. It is more problematic with a huge player base like Achaea. Also, Lusternia has a pretty hefty drain for shouts so that I don't often see shouting spams that last for any length of time. (I wasn't aware of there being disgruntlement regarding shouts.)
Daganev2005-11-11 08:30:37
I wonder if in a Coven or Mindlink you would be able to have a person automatically shout if they are getting hurt. Kinda of like turning a person into a Mob, some sort of burst of communication when their health hits yellow or something.

Another option is to give an XP boost to people in covens and mindlinks. Like an extra 1%

Psst--Estarra: IIRC Hajamin said that this was pretty easy to code, except that his plate had higher priorities. Get him some coffee and prioritize this. (Although the people who want Wisp fixed will kill me for saying that).

I have no problem with shouts at all. A few people seem to dislike it, but why not just turn the shouts off then? That's what I don't understand. You have the capability to squelch it, why not use it. It's not like stupid things are shouted every 10 minutes. The only reason Sarapis changed shouts in Achaea was because of a lot of OOC stuff being done.

OTHER IDEAS:

I really would like a sing/recite/chant verb that would allow you to break out lines, with maybe something at the beginning to prevent it being used as an illusion. Like

"Please Estarra, let us sing,
"It's better than having bling,
"Or messing around with t'ings,
"Please have ye staff work on dis thing!

Dunno if this exists in IRE, but I remember this in another MUD I played a long time ago. If you can have those denziens shout with linebreaks during the anniversary weekend, I think this could be implimented fairly easilly.

Two other special emotes:

Think--Acts like an says but only Telepaths can see it, others see a generic "lost in thought" emote.

Thinkem--Acts like a custom emote but only Telepaths can see it.

Daydream--Acts like an emote but only Dreamweavers can see it. Others see a "lost in daydream" emote.

No. ninja.gif

Just use a ; and break lines that way. It really doesn't make sense for me to view a song in a lyrical format like that if you're capable of singing it normally.
Malicia2005-11-11 11:22:46
We should be able to use \\n to start a new line. That'd be cool.
Unknown2005-11-11 13:23:15
As far as covens and/or mindlinks go, maybe allow them to channel power or something from one to another. Mana for Covens, Ego for Mindlink, or power for both--or at least for those who have an ability like healing or the like. This way, one person could help another out in the coven/mindlink.

WOO improve covens, I'll never stop the terroific gossip coven (ahh memories)

but i would love the abiliity to have parties, though would it be possible to have some group abilites? (probably not)
Acrune2005-11-11 14:06:17
I still don't like the idea of the multi-line singing and such. Even with the quote in front of it, it could still set off the triggers of a lot of the less experienced programmers, and I don't think its worth the work to do, and the potential abuse, when you could just say each line individually to the same effect.

A good way to strengthen mindlinks is what I had Kaervas put in the Geomancer envoy report a few months ago: Basically for every additional person in your mindlink (up to 6), your telepathic abilities can be ranged attacks from up to 5 rooms away. So, 1 person: room only, 2 people: 1 room adjacent, 3 people, 2 rooms adjacent, and so forth to a MAXIMUM of 5 rooms. They still get the ego increasing benefit, but after the 6 people, they ONLY get the ego increase. Every additional person after 6 can do the 5 room ranged stuff.

Ew, no, no, no, no. People could be absolutely destroyed without even realising there are attackers near by. From outside the north gate of Celest, you might even by able to kill people playing roulette (not sure exactly how many rooms it is away). That'd just be way too strong, and if Kaervas really did put that in envoys, I'm sure the admins got a good laugh of it.

I think mindlinks and covens are fairly different from any kind of a party thing, in that "webs" or parties or whatnot wouldn't let you use any special skills, and would pretty much be people following with their own channel. Not terribly nessecary, but good if someone gets split up. I don't have any intention of this becoming a "covens need improvement" thread though. *bop other posters*

Oops, didn't mean to quote the part about coloring. The targetable custom emotes are awesome though, I hadn't thought about them working like that, just throwing in that $name and it shows them and everyone else in the room two different things.

I wondered why I couldn't shout as much, I think I can only belt out two or three at a time right now. Guess it was more of a problem in Aetolia, but we do sometimes get random bouts of stupidity that can be heard game-wide. I don't feel that shoutsoff is really an option, because what if you miss something? Then ten minutes after something happens, I get tells saying, "Weren't your shouts on??"

Mindlinks/Covens could perhaps share Mana or Ego, so that any member can use the entire coven's mana. It would be an even bigger advantage for mindlinks, since they'd be able to use their psionic skills for longer without burnout, specially if only one member of the mindlink is using psionic skills.

Or you can just go to the Aetolia guys and steal the Rapture code for their emotes from them. And while you're at it, stop by Imperian and get that feature that lets people tell which language someone else is speaking (Someone says something in a complex series of clicks and whistles, et al).
Narsrim2005-11-11 15:36:12
I think for Covens, it would be nice if being a Coven in fact made you stronger in some aspects. Perhaps a Coven skill that while in Coven with the members, you could gain a temporary boost to health, mana, ego, etc. You may toss in some passive healing abilities and affliction healing (I mean serious, how powerful could it be if it required 5 damn people in a room and had to be reset each time you moved), etc.

Covens right now are quite hindering to work with because you need to keep X people, but you really don't have anything that makes the coven itself greater than the individuals with the exception of like Rage/Terror.

I don't see how this could be too strong at all. First of all, Telekinetics get the 5 room range, so I don't see why a mythical skill (note: I forgot to add this effect would be earned with HIVEMIND) shouldn't grant this ability. If you're worried about Celest, then be calmed by the fact that your scenario could happen anyway with Telekinesis, and if it doesn't there's probably a reason why that's not related to the skills that can do so (burst and heartburst). My suggestion is perfectly plausible, and if the Admin "got a laugh" out of it, then I hope you're enjoying how they're laughing at wisp right now.

We don't steal each other's code. One of our mutual goals is to branch away from each other, making each of us as unique as possible. (There are times when we do share root code but not for something like this.)

Anyway, I know there are many good ideas out there. Ideas I'd like to see coded as much as anyone else. But there are also bugs left to stamp out, skills to tweak, and a current project schedule we are maintaining. (We are actually working on some HUGE projects at the moment.) Maybe we will steer off-course on some of these coding detours, but just remember that if we do, other projects that I suspect some of you would go absolutely bonkers over (especially Richter) will be put off that much longer.
