heheh. don't I know.

Pretty much Richter is spot-on to what I was saying. I mean -maybe- if you were some hugely feared combat monster, and you could really, really convince everyone you were up for the highest bidder, they might give you a go. But even then, one side or the other would probably just enemy you.

Think about the sorts of things you'd hire extra muscle for. Maybe if you hired someone to help take a village, it wouldn't be too bad. But anything else, you're attacking someone's Holy Supernal/Demon Lord/Avatar, or trying to suck all the power out of their Nexus, or trying to attack their sacred holy plane and turn their angels into demons, or what have you. If I help you do that, even if I say "but next week I'll be on the other side", I'm just going to be enemied forever.

As I say, it seems like it'd be a combination of game mechanics (i.e. most quests/activities are intrinsic to the RP of the group in question, plus you get enemied to places making it hard to switch sides later) and playerbase attitudes (i.e. "YOU ATTACK US! YOU ENEMY FOREVER! RAWR!!")

Syntax: REQUEST
        BOND LOOK
        BOND MOVE
        BOND LISTEN
        BOND ATTACK
        BOND RECALL

You are now able to receive a hunting companion, some form of hound or
wolf depending on your city/commune affiliation. After you receive this
companion, you are able to give it various commands using your bond with
it, provided you are on the same plane as your companion.

Commanding your companion to listen will allow you to use its ears as
your own, picking up all conversations that it can hear, while
commanding it to look will allow you to use its eyes, showing you what
it sees. You may also command it to move remotely, and recall it to you
if necessary, though this will take longer if it is out of your local
area. Finally, you may command your companion to attack an enemy that is
with it.

I ordered it, and it was the same as 'bond move'
Richter2005-11-15 14:41:23
Ah, same message then. Yeah, you can use them just like any pet or fae or something, but you don't actually have access to retrieve, seek, look, etc.
Unknown2005-11-15 15:08:34
Why should not belonging to a city/commune not allow you to access your bonded abilities? No, you can not request a new one without a city/commune. But its not like there is some mystical power that creates the bond between man/woman and beast. They just work together and become attuned to each other when the animal is requested. Just seems weird to me that all of a sudden, the dog/wolf you trained and lived with suddenly and mysteriously dosen't listen to you any more, because you quit/got kicked out of a city/commune.

Obviously the dog was more loyal to the city/commune smile.gif It won't abandon you if you quit, but it sure as hell isn't going to do anything special either.
Unknown2005-11-15 17:43:58
Still don't get it. How can a dog/wolf be loyal to a city? These aren't like familiars, with a more enhanced sense of being and self. A dog/wolf is loyal to individuals within a city/commune definately, but if their loyal friend and companion leaves, the dog/wolf goes with them. Like White Fang. He was a wolf, his friend went to the city/town/whatever and he followed him. He didn't say "Woah, dude, I don't like this place. Im not going to be your friend any more. Ill follow you around and stuff, but no way am I helping protect you." Unless these dogs ARE magical, mystical dogs and are highly intelligent, and have strong feelings on politics and religion?
Richter2005-11-15 18:06:49
You know, you're right. Why don't these skills work as a rogue? Estarra said herself we were going to call them "mercenaries" and they were going to be the only combination that really worked outside of any city or commune. How come you lose that skill to command them? Shouldn't there be a neutral area to get a new one? (I volunteer the Deepnight stables tongue.gif)
Unknown2005-11-16 02:05:57
I dunno about a neutral area. There should be SOME disadvantage to going rogue. But I just don't see why you can't have a bond with the animal you...bonded with because you left a political organization which has no relation to the animal itself. The kennels in the citys and communes are the places you go to get the canine, and the places where they are trained in the basics. And they sure won't let just any random joe-schmoe come take one of their precious animals. Only a citizen in good standing!
Unknown2005-11-16 13:12:24
The disadvantage is that tracking isn't all that great, compared to what else you could have (say... lichdom biggrin.gif).

IMHO, of course.
Richter2005-11-16 15:31:32
Yeah, I've heard its not as great as the skills it replaces (though I had some fun with it).

You see though, anyone can be a warrior. You beat things with weapons. Athletics and knighthood do not require specific power, because again, you beat things with weapons, all all four groups have warriors. Now, they each have the third skillset that's org-specific, but I think that tracking should work for anyone. It's enough of a blow to not have a nexus, but if tracking does not take specific power, then why do some tracking skills not work, and others do?

Maybe Bob could sell mounts, or there could be neutral stables. After all, why should their traps work, but their animals not? *shrug*
Unknown2005-11-19 07:50:21
I think the idea of mercenaries is that when you are not part of a city, you don't have a pooch, but when you are hired by a city, you are supposed to actually be inducted into the city, which would then allow you to use their kennel to request a pet and serve them.

Maybe?
Richter2005-11-19 08:32:23
I'm guessing it wasn't "intended" to be that way.

Also, a mercenary is going to get enemied quickly, so no one will let them in. And a city hire one person? They have an entire city of people, you'd have to be pretty dangerous to be hired.
Unknown2005-11-19 18:50:00
I could picture Murphy, Narsrim, Daevos, or Ixion getting hired. Especially if they formed a group and they came as a package deal. bruce_h4h.gif

Aye, but that's the all-star team that will never happen. tongue.gif

QUOTE(Soll @ Nov 13 2005, 07:33 PM)
The Tsu'chi Monastery is in the process of being built. It will be a place that any may visit if they find themselves without a place to go. There will be food and drink available, as well as beds to rest upon. There will be multiple training halls and within those halls will be multiple training sessions, which anyone from any organisation may attend, as long as they abide by the rules of the Monastery.

For most, this will be a temporary place to visit. Yet I am offering to accept students in the monastery. Skills must be non-specific to any organisation, and so it will generally be mercenaries who would make the Tsu'chi Monastery a permanent home. I will mostly reside in that place now.

However I, unlike Richter, will not be able to sustain the Tsu'chi Monastery by myself. There is a huge amount of building to do, and the money to pay Tully to clean the place every few months has to come from somewhere. So I am asking each and every one of you, if you ever have a spare gold sovereign or two, and would like to see the magnificent Tsu'chi Monastery bring a tranquil and calm sanctum into a Basin crowded with violent thoughts and actions, a donation would be greatly appreciated. Whether it's a single sovereign, or a thousand sovereigns, each will aid the process of this creation.

The Tsu'chi Monastery will eventually house:
- 10 seperate bedrooms. Each will be equipped with a bed, drapes, and a rug.
- 5 training halls.
- 2 'changing' rooms.
- 1 shop.
- 1 pathway surrounded by flowerbeds. (Seeds)
- A training glade within the garden. (Endurance)
- A tranquil spot within the garden. (Willpower) (Private)
- One room of worship for each Divine that has entered the Basin.
- More, once this is built. I have much more planned that is not on the map yet.

Wow. I didn't even realise I quoted it. However, we are indeed back up and running full steam ahead. Donations would be graceously accepted. The map shall be below shortly.
