Nah, I understand it, just means I can't.... so... postings?

Edit: And if the infestation/wyrding message hasn't changed... would blacktalon like it to? And what to?

The reason I'm curious about that is that it is pretty key to Elryn's view of Glomdoring. Celest floods the forest, therefore they are evil. Magnagora defoliates, so they are evil. Glomdoring before now has infested... I'm curious what it will be from now on.

I think Gloriana's demesnes would be something like "Elryn wiggles his fingers menacingly and the trees about you bend and twist in agitation as the area is plunged into shadowy darkness." Or something similar. happy.gif

I'm hoping Glomdoring's wyrd message is still something like rot and infestation, but not quite as simple as tainted locusts.

I have never seen a "pretty swamp" before.  Swamps tend to remind me of death and decay and nasty critters. Not something Glomdoring would view as being 'weak.'  And in case you havn't noticed Glomdoring has never viewed the nature of Serenwilde as bad, just the actions of that commune and the mentality.  If you read HELP VIRAVAIN you may notice that aspect.

It does.

It has roots in Shallamar. Again, nothing to do with the Light; the Light is Celestia's essence. The Fatalists drew their power from Shallamar, not Celestia. The creatures that were changed by the Taint were from Astral, Shallamar, Magnagora and Glomdoring. Nothing to do with the Light.

How do you know that?
I mean, that Shallamar wasn't Light?
Xavius2005-11-17 22:19:32
Princess Marilynth refered to Hallifax and the mining villages as "of the Light." I'd think it's safe to infer that the she would apply it to the whole civilized world.
Unknown2005-11-17 22:44:00
The Light is the essence of Celestia. The Light is also a philosophy - representing a set of ideals set forth by the Supernals, and those whom follow them. Every other city in the Basin is an off-shoot of Celest, and under Celest's rules. They follow their own ideals - however, they still comply to the Light itself, because it is their ruler's guiding force.

Do you get what I'm saying? Hallifax is permited to do A, as long as A resides within the bounds permited by B.

That's because the Light was the dominanat force in the Old Empire; everyone swore allegiance to the Light. But A) The Empire wasn't that centralized (There were mining disputes between Angkrag and Hallifax, for example) and B) Each Cosmic plane has its own philosophy/essence. This is inferred in most of the history of the Empire previous to the Taint wars. So I assume Shallamar wasn't another plane of the Light, but instead a plane of something else (I call it Fate because of the Fatalists, but I really don't know.) Similarly, each city was connected to its own Cosmic plane, and each believed in the tenets of its own plane (That wouldn't harm the Empire, so the philosophy of the Light probably wouldn't be enforced. I don't know much about the Supernals, but I don't think any of them teach that all philosophies that aren't the Light must be replaced or destroyed.) The Fatalists are also implied as being a different guild with different powers from the Celestines, so yeah, their power simply can't come from the Light. Therefore, Shallamar has nothing to do with the Light. Therefore, the Light has nothing to do with the Taint's creation.

We are probably the only people, besides fans of Tolkien and Star Trek, who are willing to argue over a fictional universe. Way to go, Estarra!

Those are speculations, not facts. At least judging from histories, it is not said there that Shallamar is not Light.
Unknown2005-11-18 00:02:31
It's fact. Trust us. We're insane.
Unknown2005-11-18 00:03:49
Shallamar is light, I'm almost positive. Continuum and Vortex are most likely light as well. Each represents different aspects of the light, such as love and juctice (Raziela and the judge one) in Celestia and peace and beauty in Shallamar (Gorgagiel and Nifilhema).

The way I see it, the "Song of Dynara" that the Elder Gods speak of is also what mortals call the light, and thus it would make sense for it to be present on all the cosmic planes.
Unknown2005-11-18 00:44:16
I'd agree with everyone else here, most evidence seems to point to Shallamar being just a different facet of the Light, not a different philosophy entirely.

In the histories, doesn't Gorgaliel start speaking about the Light?

I have read through most of these posts, and was sad I wasn't here when it happen. First, I think celest should be ashame they didn't protect lady Isune from this and allowed her to make the same mistake Virvavin did before she was corrupted by Kethuru. I agree with those who say this wyd is a manifestation of Light, Forest and the taint itself and is now a threat to Serenwilde based on the war their great spirits have fought and the war in Ethereal. Yes this creature is something born from the tainted spirits, but I doubt it's better then the orginal tongue.gif
Astraea2005-11-18 01:00:05
I don't know--I think it's better. Or at least stronger.

Taint = Black Cloud of Kethuru, warped things. Influenced by Kethuru only, while he was trapped behind the seal.

Wyrd = Black Cloud of Kethuru, influenced by Kethuru while he was trapped. Then wholly transformed by Viravain and Isune. Virvain who concentrated on strength, Isune on beauty, while Mother Night, Crow, and The Ebonglom Wyrdling all had a possibly major effect as well. How could two elder goddesses, concentrating on making something better (Regardless of whether they meant to touch the taint or not), not work?

But I don't see it as a form of taint. I see it as its own thing. Wyrd is Wyrd. I think if it was just new taint, there would not have big such a big 'amazing factor' IE, the Fae going-a-chanting. But this *is* speculation. So you may or may not agree.
Unknown2005-11-18 01:25:08
I think the Wyrd may be more natural, but I believe it's still sinister. It's not unnatural, however, as it may be more akin to the secrets of what Mother Night used to be--it's probably closer to that.

If the Serenwilde considers Taint bad because it's cosmic pollution, than the Wyrd probably does not count as it--it could be considered cleansed taint, for instance, or maybe nature's way of adapting to it.

If one considers Glomdoring and the Wyrd evil, because of their actions, that's a whole 'nuther matter.

Daganev2005-11-18 01:29:43
If your a member of the V.H.E.M. then the Wyrd is exactly what your looking for, if your a member of the Sierra Club, then the wyrd is something to debate over, if your a member of Garderners Association, you would hate the wyrd.
Unknown2005-11-18 01:31:22
Holy crap Daganev. WYRD. WYRD. OF ALL THE WORDS! LEARN TO SPELL IT!
Daganev2005-11-18 01:35:33
Huh? I don't see what I misspelled, but then I never do.
Cairam2005-11-18 01:40:31
This has nothing to do with anything, but everytime I see Daganev's avatar, I think of Bruce Campbell from Army of Darkness.

Got your boomstick?

Along with Pooh, he is actually one of my rolemodels! (For this Daganev Charachter atleast... ok not really, but I do often picture him.)
