Back to The Real World.

Well, Sylphas and Shorlen seem to want to try a match of this, and I'll ref the match and stuff.

I made a nice low-power ruleset for making the teams - I'll post it here in a short bit, as well as a map to playon (both in text form and an image that a friend made of the map.)

The BMG is here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/game/197339.html
Although you don't need to fret with doing all the calculations - that'll mostly be up to me, as i update the gamestate after your moves.
Unknown2005-11-18 02:17:30
Ruleset: Trying to make this a low-power match, thus the moderately large ban-list, mainly aiming to prohibit high-power and high-cost abilities.

Level 23
Here is a list of stats, just look up the class and then find the level 23 row
http://www.geocities.com/Zouf300/charts.html

Every Job but Mime is avaialable, up to one allowed of each Job Type and individual

Ability and Skillset, unless noted as being banned. Mix and match as you please.

4 people on a team
12 main zodiac signs, 40-70 brave & faith.

Bans: (Unallowed)

Mime (Job)
Archer: None
Bard: Move +3, Fly
Calculator: Math Skill
Chemist: Potion, X-Potion, Elixer, Hi-Ether
Dancer: Fly
Geomancer: None
Knight: None
Lancer: Level 8 Jump, Vertical 6 Jump, Vertical 7 Jump, Vertical 8 Jump (Note: This means 5 range 5 vertical max)
Mediator: Invitation
Monk: Earth Slash, Hamedo
Ninja: Sunken State, Throw Axe (Note that you need to have a weapon to throw it)
Oracle: None
Priest: Holy
Samurai: Koutetsu (reminder - you need to have the swords to use the abilities)
Squire: None
Summoner: Bahamut, Odin, Leviathan, Salamander, Fairy, Cyclops, Zodiac
Thief: None
Time Mage: Meteor, Short Charge
Wizard: None

Having a skill innate (in the case of 2-swords and martial arts) counts as having that skill used, so you can have a monk primary, or a non-monk with martial arts.

Note, Only Hi-Potions are available, so Auto-Potion activates with Hi-Potion.

Equips Allowed:
Here is the available equipment. Pretty much its whatevers available right at the start of chapter 3, with a few exceptions. I have omitted equipment which is worse in every possible way (stuff that has less attack power or HP and has no special abilities associated with it to make it desirable in any way - so no "clothes" and "leather hats" to scroll through here) If you guys want, I can flesh this out and have the attack power and any effects given by the equipment shown here too.

Dagger: Blind Knife, Mage Masher, Main Gauche
Sword: Coral Sword, Ancient Sword
Axe: Giant Axe
Flail: Flail
Gun: Romanda Gun
Crossbow: Night Killer, Cross Bow, Poison Bow
Longbow: Ice Bow, Lightning Bow, Mythril Bow

Ninja Sword: Hidden Knife
Staff: White Staff, Rainbow Staff, Wizard Staff
Rod: Rod, Fire Rod, Ice Rod, Thunder Rod, Poison Rod
Stick: Musk Rod
Dictionary: Battle Dictionary
Harps: Ramia Harp
Cloth: Persia
Throwable: Shuriken, Magic Shuriken, Fire Ball, Water Ball, Lightning Ball
Bag: C Bag
Hat: Triangle Hat, Green Beret, Twist Headband

Items of note: Hi-Potion, Phoenix Down, Remedy, Ether.

Map: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v682/sqp...pinprogress.jpg

The one on the RIGHT is the normal perspective.
Water gives standard movement penalty. (2 movement per square when walking into a square with water) Characters that are in depth 2 water cannot as per normal, also.

To read this text map, the notation is height (decimal omitted) then terrain type. Water is shown with height, then depth (1d2 means the surface of the water is at height 1, and it is of depth 2) The map doesn't show inclines, the major inclines that should be noted are the stairs on either side of the building - 4 jump can get you onto the building. (easy to see on the graphical map)

My team is done, just waiting on you, Sylphas. I'll edit this post with the team when you're done too.

All I will say for now is that this game will be HIGHLY amusing biggrin.gif And very short.
Sylphas2005-11-26 21:08:23
I've yet to get a chance to build mine. I forgot how complicated it would be to actually build a team from scratch without the whole gameplay thing backing it up, and Thanksgiving and all. Oh, and I really didn't mean to ignore you sylverfyre, just forgot an away message.

Pick a theme and go with it. One of us will get our butt kicked, and then we get to do it again more intelligently biggrin.gif I'm going for fun more than effect.

ooh! can i be a random person that just walks around the map?

Only if the first team to kill you gets a level up for all their members, making them jump up and down joyfully like those FFT characters like to do. laugh.gif
Unknown2005-11-27 16:45:35
Its ok sylphas, I figured you were a chronic AFKer or something to that effect. Poke me on MSN anytime, I'll help you throw your team together, give you ideas, etc. biggrin.gif Shorlen's actaully throwing a ton of 'useful' abilities here - should give you some ideas, I can spout out some ideas for how to set up a character that you want if I could catch you not afk!

Shorlen2005-11-27 16:55:22
Sylphas, I'll make it a bit easier for you:

Useful reaction abilities:

Blade Grasp (30% base chance to be hit by all physical sources)
Auto Potion (heals 70 70% of the time you take damage, remember)
Critical Quick (useful if you actually get into critical)
HP Restore (useful if you actually get into critical)
Speed Save (+1 speed 70% of the time you get hit, best combined with someone who does next to no damage)
Damage Split (half damage 70% of the time if it doesn't kill you, and hurts them)
MP Switch (good for those who don't use their MP)
Counter Flood (very good damageing counter, since if it fires, it will always hit, and has a chance of doing really painful afflictions)
Abandon (good on shield wielders)
Counter Magic (can be good *shrugs*)
A Save (+1 attack 70% of the time you get hit)

Support abillities:

Concentrate (never miss, except against people with blade grasp)
Attack Up (4/3rds damage with physical)
Magic AttackUp (4/3rds damage with magic)
Defence Up (2/3rds damage from physical)
Magic DefendUp (2/3rds damage from magic)
Two Swords (wield two swords, hit twice)
Two Hands (double wp for normal attacks, no shield)
Throw Item (for non-chemists with ITEM)
Half of MP (Good for wizards and summoners (that aren't using MA Up))
Equip Armor (Great for monks, includes knight armor AND helms)
Equip Shield (I guess it can be useful sometimes)
Equip Change (Yes, it is actually useful in certain situations. Think about it)
Equip Spear (For non-lancers you want to give JUMP to)

Movement Abilities:

Move +2 (amazingly good)
Move +1 (not quite as good)
Teleport (people do not block movement, includes ignore height, allows you to take a chance and teleport REALLY far (chance to succeed is 100% minus 10% for each square more than your move stat you try to teleport)
Ignore Height (lets you get on top of that big house in the center)
Jump +3 (also lets you get on top of that big house in the center. Note you only need 4 jump to get up there if you take the stairs, much more if you don't)
Move-MP Up (restore 10% MP every turn, as long as you move a single square)
Move-HP Up (restore 10% HP every turn, as long as you move a single square)

Remember that Any Weather is worthless because it is not raining. Not that it is useful if it IS raining, but it is COMPLETELY worthless in this game instead of NEARLY COMPLETELY worthless.

The following let you walk through water at normal speed, but different depths.
Any Ground
Move in Water
Walk on Water

Useful skillsets:

Black Magic (lots of damage)
Item (instant healing and reviving)
Draw Out (lots of instant damage if you have high MA)
Talk Skill (useful to have low faith if you're set up for it, threaten is NICE against people with good counters, like blade grasp, and monks)
White Magic (healing and reviving, but not instant)
Summon (high damage, large area of effect, high mp costs)
Sing (buff your party)
Dance (debuff your enemies)
Basic Skill (accumulate! and throw stone is nice if you have someone with speed save or a save)
Punch Art (chakra, ranged normal attack (wave fist), revive)
Geomancy (instant ranged, aoe damage, small chance of good status effects)
Charge (extra damage if you have the time)
Jump (ranged physical damage, much more useful for spear wielders)
Throw (ranged speed based damage, move based range)
Time Magic (haste, don't move, slow, stop, quick)
Yin-Yang (paralyse, innocent, pray faith, spell absorb, foxbird)

Good stat lines:

Male Ninja: (best speed, good PA)
Level 23 HP 56-60, MP 18-19, PA 9, MA 4, SP 9

Female Wizard: (best MA)
Level 23 HP 56-60, MP 57-61, PA 3, MA 10, SP 7

Female Time Mage: (second best MA)
Level 23 HP 56-60, MP 54-57, PA 2, MA 9, SP 7

Female Priest: (good speed, good MA)
Level 23 HP 67-72, MP 54-57, PA 5, MA 7, SP 8

Male Monk: (good speed, good PA, good HP)
Level 23 HP 129-138, MP 28-30, PA 9, MA 4, SP 8

Male Knight/Lancer: (good PA, best HP (with armor))
Level 23 HP 108-115, MP 26-28, PA 9, MA 4, SP 7 (Knight)
Level 23 HP 108-115, MP 16-17, PA 9, MA 2, SP 7 (Lancer)

Does anyone know what the actual % chance of geomancy effects are? Maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but both the game and a few of the FAQs I've used try to tell me it's 100%, which is obviously the chance of the effect hitting rather than the petrification etc.

I found the matchup amusing, anyway. Glass cannons vs firing squad

ANYWAY, since noone voiced a preference in which starting corner they wanted, we'll just have it be completely random.
Heads = Shorlen takes northwest corner
