OOC clan flag

OOC clans do not belong in an immersive roleplaying game. Go play something else if you wish to do that.

Now, just an observation, but aren't many of the people who frequent these clans some of the more problematic or less-liked players? You'll have to excuse me for any ignorance coming out of that statement, as I've never been in an ooc clan (turned one or two down before), but it just seems that way to me.

Not really Richter. Shamarah, Murphy, Daevos, and others all belong to OOC clans, based on what I've seen in quotes.

I dislike the concept of an OOC clan myself since I think it keeps people from being immersive. People talking on clans and tells alone is a bit off-putting since it leads to greeting characters who are talking elsewhere. I think OOC ads to the distraction. I think people who play Lusternia need to treat it like it's a job--not as in spend all your time here, but when you are logged on give it the majority of your attention. Otherwise, it leads to dozens of daydreaming people.

Did you read the thread before posting?

I don't want OOC clans at all, I've always argued against them... but if they are going to be tolerated - AS IS OFFICIAL POLICY - then I want them to be distinct from regular clans so that boundaries are clear.

It's not a matter of do we want them or not. The admin have already ruled they will stay. If you cannot abide by that, you are equally as welcome to go play another game. tongue.gif

I did, and I understand your point. I'm just giving my opinion, which is apparently an unpopular one. smile.gif
Elgar2005-11-20 01:35:36
change your proposal as
admins set ooc clan flag that will automaticly deduct 50 roleplay points a ooc day to every member.

(yeah yeah not going to happen I know, admins have work enough)

Really tolerating ooc clans is one thing, facilitating is going to far.
Richter2005-11-20 01:42:48
That would be neat...

OOC clan flags, with a loss of rolepoints daily. smile.gif
Shamarah2005-11-20 02:15:06
I don't know about other people, but while I'm in two OOC clans (DoK and Bellator), I don't go in them to discuss movies or things like that(although admittedly the topic can stray to such). Both of those are combat clans in which the primary topic is fighting, which does relate to the game, and even if it was a little weird to be in a clan with Mags/Gloms at first both have turned out to be good clans that are helpful and nice places to talk about combat and stuff. I don't really see a big problem with those, since combat does directly relate to the game.

On the other hand, I don't care for clans that exist solely for OOC chatter (ie. Panda).
Joli2005-11-20 02:15:18
.. Lame.

You would lose all your rolepoints in 2 days.
Daganev2005-11-20 02:42:40
I still say Zmud and other combat related coding talk should not be considered OOC.

You should be able to translate such talk in your mind in an IC way, but not make people(i.e. players) figure out what your trying to say in code.

For examle... Make an alias to swing both arms at once by putting a ';' between the first swing comand and the second., can easily be translated into -your- mind as him saying in an IC fashion.. Use both your arms in combat.

Just had to get that off my chest.
Shamarah2005-11-20 02:56:03
Except that you can't exactly discuss the advantages of clients, the complexities of programming triggers beyond very simple things, etc, in IC terms. It just doesn't work.
Daganev2005-11-20 05:04:47
You can't, but your characters can, is what I'm saying.

For example, your charachers could very easily be discussing which old master had a better weapon technique, or who taught people to move the fastest. This won't help the player understand zmud vs. Mush, however to your charachter it would make perfect sense.

What I'm saying is that normally people want you to translate 18str into some IC language, well why can't the charachter translate zmud into some language our charachter would understand. (e.g. zmud in my charachter's mind sounds like the "school of Bomani"

edit: Actually, maybe I'll just start my own dictionary and start talking like that... hmmm.
Shiri2005-11-20 05:10:03
You have a good point, but that's a bit TOO much suspension of disbelief.

That's not as bad, but like you said, there are some OmfgLolz clans that are nothing but bleh.

Anyway, I guess I got us off topic, it was about flags.
Joli2005-11-20 05:39:10
yes, Richter hates talk like this.

and we are talking about Willy Wonka. halo.gif

(clan): You say, "And I want to know what he does with the pink
sheep wool!"

(clan): ***** says, "Do you REALLY want to know?"

(clan): ***** says, "What does he do?!"

(clan): You say, "I want to know."

(clan): You say, "Someone tell me."

(clan): ****** says, "Of course, i don't even know what y'alls
talking about."

(clan): ****** says, "I just logged on."

(clan): ***** says, "Lol."

(clan): You say, "Someone tell me what he does."

(clan): ***** says, "I went to see 'The Legend of Zoro'"

(clan): You say, "With the pink sheep wool."

(clan): **** says, "Uses it to clean up his messess...."

(clan): You say, "..why would you use wool for that?"

(clan): **** says, "Because its more comfortable than a napkin for
him?"

(clan): ***** says, "Very absorbant, wool is."

(clan): You say, "O_o."

(clan): **** says, "Lol."

(clan): *****says, "Thats what he does with the wool."

kids,

want an OOC clan? join the IRC channel. that way its completely game-independant, its clear when you take OOC things IC, and you're around when noone else is!

I hate the IRC channel. I really do. tongue.gif

In all honesty, while some clans are kinda wilde *coughsaitamaclanCough*
There are others that provide a great wealth of information

Like Bellator and DoK, often after a spar its much easier to discuss with say, Eiru or Daevos about how I did, what I oculd have done better, how I'm gonna do it next time, etc, rather than take 30 minutes, edit down a log, then post it on here and spend two days waiting for people who sometimes just make stupid comments like zOmG U GeTz PWNTSZ

I dont care a whole lot for a lot of idle banter, but ooc clans are sometimes the only thing that help me stay sane when bashing for 10 hours straight
Elgar2005-11-20 09:56:15
I don't see why ooc clans are easier then talking on some irc channel called lusterniaCombat or wathever.

But my problem was with facilitating ooc clans. For all I care you talk all day long about movies on that clan, just means I'll never join it. I just don't want to see code that helps ooc clans. Although on the bad side if someone gives out raiding plans on an ooc clan and someone else uses it to inform the other side. I will icly consider that person a traitor instead of considering the other guy a bad RPer.
Sylphas2005-11-20 11:14:45
I'm only a member of one OOC clan, and it's rarely used. I got the lame OOC clan. sad.gif

Cuase you dont need to switch windows? Which sucks to do while bashing.
