So I was having this argument with my sister as to whether or not Harry Potter 4 was worth seeing, in the end we discovered that she was basing her opinion on the Achaea forums and me on the Lusternia forums.. I think someone should do a study about that.

I liked the lead singers jacket, it made me think of Crow's cloak. biggrin.gif

Ha.. I thought the exact same thing.

I saw it the first showing with Elaeni. I liked it better than the others. Looking back stuff was missing yeah. But watching it I didn't notice.

I want a tiny Dragon ;.; *buys one with credits*
Anumi2005-11-22 20:16:23
Exactly. I had to sit down afterward and really think about what was missing. And, tiny dragons == cool.

As for the teeth, Hermione fixed hers in the book (granted, after she got hit with the teeth-enlarging jinx), so Karkaroff can certainly get his fixed. Maybe he likes to be scary.

The truly perverted part is that the actress playing Myrtle is, IRL, 40 years old. So, a little suspension of disbelief is required there or else it's really kind of gross. I think Myrtle was great though. Best bit part ever is still Dawn French as the Fat Lady in HP3, though.

I went to the movie knowing things were going to be left out. I mean...how could they not when the book is so huge and the movie is only 2.5 hours long?

That said, I was very pleased with how they did it. Yes they cut out things I'd have loved to have seen, but all-in-all they did a much better job of choosing what to leave, what to take out and what to retell a bit than they did in the third movie.

Though, I do agree that a little more of the Rita Skeeter stuff should have been included...maybe they'll have it in the extended DVD version or something.

I loved Moody and the teeny dragons and all three of the tasks (though I'd have loved to see a blast-ended skrewt) and Harry bringing Cedric back was just as emotional as I thought it should be. Poor Harry.

I like the way the movie was done for the most part. It's sucky the first part of the book/world cup is condensed to 15 minutes, but oh well I guess.

The worst part was when Harry sees Barty Crouch in the woods. Can we say, what the hell happened to Barty? Obviously I know because I'm obsessed with the books, but not everyone else.

I dunno... I kinda thought that was made obvious enough by the reaction Barty Sr. had to seeing Moody do that little tongue thing his son did all the time (as witnessed in the memory Harry saw). It looked to me like he might have recognized it and the possibility of such recognition would force Barty Jr as Moody to kill his father just to be safe.

I liked the Goblet of Fire movie. (Strangely enough, I enjoy the movies more than the books.)

Is it just me or does the older Harry Potter gets, the more he looks like Frodo Baggins?

Lawnmower man and Minority Report are two movies that I know of that were just as good, if not better than the original books.

Minority is a short story/novella (haven't read it in a bit, not sure how long it really is), which is much less stuff to have to cut for a movie, so it really should be as good if not better.
Joli2005-11-23 04:27:59
They might add some of the more important bits to the next movie so we're not in the dark. I remember them doing that to one series of movies, but I can't remember the name for the life of me right now. mellow.gif
Shamarah2005-11-24 13:09:32
Saw it recently. It was pretty good, and the action sequences were well-done, but it left out some stuff, most notably Rita Skeeter, Dobby, and the beginning (I know the beginning would have totally confused me if I hadn't read the book).

And I agree about the techno music... wacko.gif
Asarnil2005-11-24 14:31:12
Constantine was BETTER than the comic it was based on? You have GOT to be kidding me there Shikari, because if you aren't you seriously need to re-read the comics. Hellblazer >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Constantine.

My problem was just.. if I had not read the book I would not have understood what the film is about. So many things were left out, I would have just sat there getting utterly confused, especially at the beginning at the world cup. sad.gif

How many people haven't read the book? closedeyes.gif
Aiwendil2005-11-27 06:22:36
I felt like they had filmed all the parts seperately then joined them up together without thinking. Very little flow, beginning was very abrupt also. They didn't focus on the fact that Fleur was Veela (where's her silvery hair, dammit? And she should be prettier than Cho). The good looking people (Cho, Cedrik, Krum) get so little screen time. Cho especially, because they're trying to focus on her alot but don't succeed very well. Notice how she has most of her scenes seperate from Harry? That's because I still think Daniel Radcliffe's acting is not exactly the best. I agree the Rita thing was downplayed. And while I'm on Krum, does he look like how you imagined him to? The rock/techno band shouldn't have happened, since this was an elegant whatever you call it. Slight stereotyping of clothing also happened... Cho in Chinese clothing and the twins in Indian ones. Dumbledore slipped into an American accent sometimes. I would have been super super confused from the start had I not read the book.

Simply put, the director should be shot for killing the book, the film negatives should be burned and we should all worship Voldemort as he was the only cool guy there.

And Cedrik. wub.gif He's one of the other main reasons which made me feel less pained about spending money on watching that "movie".

Therefore... I hated it. sleep.gif
Arix2005-11-27 06:52:02
I haven't seen any of the movies except the first. was Voldemort any good?
Astraea2005-11-27 07:17:16
Is it just me..or were the Weasley Twins ungodly hotter in this movie then the others?

It was just like bam, right out of left field.

And yes..Cedric was very handsome too. I'm going to go on IMDb now and find out about the actor who played him, and if he has ever been in anything else.

I thought the movie was good, but not as good as it could have been. I enjoyed it, but I can sympathize with those who did not.

The only thing that really bummed me was the lack of the Quiddich World Cup. I wanted to see the Beautiful Veela suddenly become hideous. And the Veela heckle the leprechauns and vice versa. I also wanted to see Harry looking through that one time-replayer thing.
Iridiel2005-11-28 10:05:49
The only part of the film I actually liked were the dragons and the end, with Voldemort (thye managed to make it nearly scary).

The rest of the film, well, looks like they added quite a bit of scenes just to sell the videogame afterwards and they cut too many things and extended others way too much.

And those french girls, well, they're the most scary thing in all the film. Gave me the creeps each time they moved around all in blue.
Marcalo2005-11-30 13:55:02
it was alright, the begining confused the heck out of me, one min they are at the sporting event, next running for there lives WTF. other then that it seem good, i have never so much as cracked on of the books.
Fain2005-11-30 17:48:46
I've never read any HP books, but I did see this new movie.. one thing that really irked me about the film was how Harry was led by the hand throughout the entire movie. In the other ones, Harry used his brain to get out of sticky situations. In this film, everyone tells him to do something. IE

"Harry, eat this, you can swim underwater"

"Harry, stop zapping Voldemort, we'll save you, dont worry"

"Harry, go do this and this and this"

"Harry, don't go over there, go over here!"

"Harry, here's how you make your egg open!"

I can't remember one point in the film where he actually reasoned out anything on his own, so there really wasn't much character development at all for him. Oh well, I never expected much besides alot of splashy CG animation anyway.
Iridiel2005-11-30 17:54:16
Oh, well, in the other books he isn't told what to do. He's just given the magical widget he'll need to do things, with a clear and concise instructions manual.
"Want to sneak through a castle full of wannabe wizards? Here you have an invisibility cloak"
"Want to avoid being recognized by your bad breath? Here you have our magical mint candies with no sugar!"
