Just wanted to point out that you should all get msn messenger v7.5, the thing is amazing. Without downloading the new version, you can't get all the new features, or interact with some features with people like me who've gotten the upgrade.

In this new version, you can talk with others, and it is a much deserved upgrade from the last attempt at a voice service. It takes what you say, records it, quickly sends it over, and plays it. If you don't have that window open, it waits till you click over to it, and if you missed it, you can replay it. You can also save it (I have Bau singing the Kookabura song to me, for future blackmail purposes smile.gif ).

It also features great webcam integration. I've seen some programs where the webcam is awkward looking, but this is excellent. It replaces your custom display picture, and you can set it for small, medium, or large. Large of course, is best if your connection is fast.

Speaking of pictures, you get custom avatars (none of these tiny crappy pics that AIM lets you have). There is no file size limit, there is only the space limitation. You can also choose from several free dynamic pictures that move, and some change depending on if you use an emote (my Sprite guy gets angry, sad, in love, etc), and if you want to spend a few bucks, you can browse hundreds of extra ones, and get something like Ialie's flying dragon.

The backgrounds are excellent, and the new version just added dynamic backgrounds, which can move if you wish, or you can stick with the old static backgrounds. MSN 7.5 has many other features, such as a handwriting feature, winks (emotes that full the entire convo screen for a few seconds), the ability to nudge someone, an option that displays to everyone which song you're playing if you're using Windows Media Player, and many other things.

No, I'm not getting paid for this, but I do want everyone to have the newest version so I can harass them with my voice, and so some people can remove their heads from their rears and stop using AIM, which is quite frankly, the devil. If the devil sucked a lot, and couldn't do anything right, and was ugly. smile.gif

Unless someone has integrated the program to work with a multiple SN client (AIM and MSN are all I care about), it's fairly useless to me. The less processing power I have to lock up, the better. My poor rig is getting outdated, want as little background processing going on as I can manage.

Currently running Gaim. Last time I checked MSN, it bugged out on me, hung, and disconnected. I promptly never used it again, piece of crud. Also, if they implement support for WinAmp and not WMP I'd be much more happy. WMP has a tendancy to be a resource hog unless you run Classic, which is the only version I'll use.

I already have to run a little program I have that disables unnecessary background crap so that my system will run better when I run graphic intensive games such as Half Life 2 (which has been hardlocking my system too much, HL2 - 5, Me - 0).

::sighs:: I really need to get my system some love.
Richter2005-11-21 18:10:30
I can't help it if your computer sucks. tongue.gif

And I don't use WMP, but then again, I don't consider showing off which song I'm currently playing a nessecity (even if it does turn into a hyperlink, which lets you preview and or buy the album they're listening to).

AIM is still the devil though.

Does this version of MSN still refuse to quit and take over your activities too, or have they stopped doing that now?
Richter2005-11-21 19:18:21
I've never had that kind of a problem. blink.gif

I randomly hear peolpe having wierd problems with MSN or AIM, and I've never had either of those malfunction before.
Unknown2005-11-21 19:22:55
Even ICQ 5 years ago looked better then AIM does now. MSN is the undisputed king.
Raezon2005-11-22 01:45:17
Pssh, the new triton beta of AIM is beautiful. MSN is still the devil.

Albeit, there's talk, before we know it, they'll all be integrated and there will just be one monopolistic messenger.

That would be like leaders in Glomdoring coming together to take over the Basin, though. It can't happen until the egos go away, and even then, people are going to refuse the obvious superiority just because they can.

I used Trillian forever, but I've defected to GAIM, I like it a lot more. Although using AIM and MIRC and MSN seperately still works better, it's insane to have three things using my resources when I only really need one.
Shikari2005-11-22 08:28:41
Two words : Trilogy EC.

From the startup screen - 'All communications will be protected using 256-bit AES encryption, unique user keys and randomly-generated temporary session keys. Your messages will be absolutely secure. To begin, enter an IP address to call into the box on the right, or select a name from your Address Book or Buddy List.'.

Sometimes, a man just has to have privacy. cool.gif
Iridiel2005-11-22 09:33:49
I might take a look at that, Shikari. Only good thing of trillian is that I can have IRC, AIM, ICQ, YAHOO and MSM on the same window and it's easier to configure, but security wise is null.

But I wonder wich kind of conversations you have to end up with such a need for privacy wink.gif

The new Triton beta looks nice, but it DOES have problems. If you run MSCONFIG and disable the two AOL startup processes, when you minimise your Triton buddy list the icon will disappear and you have to open the shortcut to open triton if you want to see the buddy list ever again. For me to consider it to be decent, it HAS to be able to have those processes disabled and still have full functionality

Yea, same here. I use Trillian since I have multiple messenger accounts. I don't really need all the bells and whistles.
