indeed.

99% of the published books are just 200 word pamphlets churned out for culture points anyway.

Agreed. The public Library is only a way to gain power nothing more. You just need to make sure you have no grammar errors in your essays then you can publish any crap that you damn well want. No point in looking to the Libraries for great thinkers IMO. sleep.gif

The few good books in there aren't worth reading through the other.. stuff to find them. tongue.gif

I miss Melanchthon, because oocly he was another amazing reasoner (I'm sure it was him). If only a fraction of that went into his character, I have no doubt he would be considered one of the sages of the Basin.

He is.. I had long discussion on AIM with him on a couple subjects.. it's always very interesting to hear his opinion on matters, and yeah I miss him too. sad.gif

According to the list people are posting here Serenwilde should have more than 5 books.

Is saying that the library system is "just a place to get power" just an excuse for why the communes don't have nearly as many books as the cities do?

I know that personally, I just don't have the time to write the books that I want to.

Good thing they have more than five, then, right? tongue.gif
Daganev2005-11-24 01:36:24
Meh, I havn't looked at thier score in a year. Still 10 is quite a ways from the 25 and 33 that the cities have.
Suhnaye2005-11-24 03:09:38
Counting the number of books a city of commune has as a way to tell how many thinkers they have is foolish. Most people who -Are- thinkers likely write decent sized books, and don't want to publish untill they're finished. Hence the reason they don't publish as many as the mass media people.

The trick I'm finding is to find the time to write, or it never gets done. There's a lot of people in Celest who have some kind of writing done but everyone is always really busy.

Unless your problem is OOC time. smile.gif
Unknown2005-11-24 03:27:31
OOC time is a huge barrier. It's what's kept me from making progress on my book.
Daganev2005-11-24 06:51:48
If I'm conscious enough to write or edit something to be put in a book I'm doing real work, not playing a game.

The book I wrote on Illusions I did in one hour because I had built Daganev's whole RP behind it. But I have something else comming out and its just to large to ever actually do it.

Why am I not named? I am by far one of the greatest minds of this time.
Iridiel2005-11-24 10:34:39
OMG Estarra allows you to have ideas? Didn't she have enough with your attempts at poetry? wink.gif
Verithrax2005-11-24 11:43:58
Verithrax is definitely a great thinker. He was the first inhabitant of the Basin to advocate universal peace, predating Elcyrion. He's also a damn good writer; his book partially predates Elcyrion (I started work on it before His coming) and is only very slightly influenced by Him. He also gets a lot of censor.gif from it, but that's because people like violence.

Maybe communes are more interested in the idea of the Library than using it as a means of getting power? Fact is it happens though, I don't care on which side, I'm only saying that the Libraries are a failure. Totally and utterly useless the way they are now.

All you do is publish books to gain power.. doesn't matter what crap is inside or if it's just a paragraph.. even -one- paragraph would be considered a 'book' in the current system. Utterly stupid. tongue.gif

QUOTE(diamondais @ Nov 22 2005, 06:22 PM)
Azrion doesnt have a ton of little essays, if you want a ton of little essays look at what Rhysus did. His work isnt even his own. Azrion is a great thinker because he knows what he believes in and isnt afraid to show you why he believes it without trying to kill you.
Hell, he even took Diamondais to Nil to show her why he believed that Magnagora and the Nihilists were his place. And in his hoping, hers.
He's written things saying that you should just take life as it is, if things are down theres always the possibility of new beginnings. Also a study of the Light and Taint. Tried to show that some things were just plain wrong.

Okay...enough of me defending Azrion who doesnt probably need it  biggrin.gif

Come now. That is hardly fair. There was a miscommunication with Hajamin over the way the Library system works and was intended to be used. The "Publication" was different than I had imagined, and I've apologized for that initial spat in the past. No need to drag my name through the mud when I'm not even around much anymore.
Diamondais2005-11-24 22:28:36
I didnt know that that was an mistake, nor could I have as all you can see on the essays are bad reviews on how they arent you work. Plus, I have dined in my ear every now and then the same and how its not right.

I apologize for my misunderstanding.

I was wondering about some things before I sit down and write a long arse essay..

Does Lusternia know what atoms and bonds are? Do we know specfic chemicals? Do we only know certain ones? Can we use scientific terms?

I would have to say no, no, and yeees but only really old ones. For example, no one had any clue of what germs were in Lusternia's time apparently (if they actually DO exist it's hard to tell, but "humour healing" actually worked) but people worked off Hippocrate's (I think) theories.

Probably best not to.

probably that theory democritus had's about it?
Shiri2005-11-25 01:16:59
Well, you could have the idea that the universe is created from indivisible blocks at a basic level, but not the modern conception of atoms (as in "atoms and bonds.") I guess.
