So, nobody in the basin has any turkey dishes? Turkey pot-pie? Turkey sandwiches? Someone told me there was a Turkey-cranberry sandwich sold somewhere in Glomdoring, but it seems to be out of stock.
If there are such recepies, please stock the larders, as Tully would say. Even if there's no Thanksgiving in Lusternia, we should have some traditional meals available.

Do turkeys exist?
Unknown2005-11-22 01:13:51
The rule of thumb I use is that if it is found on Earth it can be found on Lusternia unless there is sufficient reason to believe it would not exist based on the history.
Shiri2005-11-22 01:14:16
Tainted chicken = Turkey. That's why the meat's so dry, earth element.
Penelope2005-11-22 02:00:27
I'm the cook in Glomdoring that makes the turkey sandwiches. If you're interested in some let me know. I'll make some for you. Just send me a message.

During Thanksgiving last year there was a turkey catching event, so I imagine they exist IC.

You just don't know how to cook turkey if you think the meat's more dry than chicken.
About the only basis I can see for saying there wouldn't be turkeys is that they're a New World native. A few other New World native things don't seem to exist in Lusternia: chocolate and tobacco most notably. But more of them do (potatoes, tomatoes, and corn being the most noteworthy). On balance I'd say New World origins are immaterial, and thus, there's no reason to say no turkeys in Lusternia.
Edit: Guido makes an excellent point. (Damn, those words should never be allowed to occur together.) I had forgotten about it, though I think I still have triggers for it.
Xenthos2005-11-22 16:01:51
And apparently chocolate does exist, just not where we can get our hands on it. *points at Divinely-crafted chocolate cheesecake.*

Everyone thought I was making it up when I talked about the turkey hunt
Diamondais2005-11-22 23:05:11
One of the first hamster hunts had turkeys wandering around...theyre fast little buggers... Youre not insane Nyla, we believe you.

Never cooked turkey myself, just chicken.
Maybe I'm just a better cook than my parents. ()

Yes, last year I unleashed a horrible gaggle of turkeys, you're not all suffering a mass-hallucination. Quite by accident, I assure you. All of the thousands of them are kept under lock and key, now, however, and ought not be escaping to cause any more chaos.
(I hope Kethuru didn't eat my key... or they might really end up tainturkies, and that wouldn't be good for anyone.)
On the flip side, I'd be more interested in some holidays centered around in-game events, seeming different places celebrate different stuff at different times, and it would be a little silly to have a bunch of holidays that only come around every 52 years for everything under the sun because of a world that doesn't exist to us.
Remember! The power is yours, or some '80s style theme like that.

Well, we have Tofurkeys, Deep fried Turkeys, and Turduckens...I'm sure somebody can do something with those variations...
Diamondais2005-11-23 03:34:20
The real world has events or special times of the years that only happen every so often, for example seeing Hally's Comet (probably mispelled but Im not perfect for spelling) is around every 80 years? Or something like that. But thats just one example, its late, freezing and my minds emotionally exhausted so dont press me.
Tainturkies wouldnt be sooooo bad...hehe especially for those that like killing all things taint. Maybe even some special food dishes..

Anyway..
I agree with Isune.. It just seems like unless a Divine is going to hold everyone's hand and guide them through something they don't want to do an event... It's bloody hard to do one alone too. Ooers.. I just had an odd visual of a holiday, but I would get smooshed if I posted that. It would be interesting if Divines would claim certain dates to be a day to celebrate themselves (like their birthdays) and then it would become an established holiday in game.
Penelope2005-11-23 03:52:27
Should do a celebration every ten years to the day called "Isune Day" in recognition of her sacrifice and stuff against Kethuru. Yup yup.
Joli2005-11-23 04:22:18
Should have a Elcyrion day just because he is the shizzle.

Someone is going to tickle your obsession away!
Or we can make a girly fanclub.
And yeah, I noticed that in other IRE games about people not wanting to do something unless it was spearheaded by a Divine. Made me wonder if there was a roleplay ON / OFF switch.
