Demesnes

Demesnes are the single biggest reason I'm no longer a druid. I HATED all the setup and constant guard duty because I could hold a demesne. With my fae, all the setup is handled beforehand, and I can wander as I please. As a druid, I was never fully ready for combat unless it was planned well in advance, or I gave my enemy a couple minute head start.

And trying to fight against them is just as annoying. There's many times where I've sprinted (rarely literally) from sanced room to sanced room because spending any real time wandering in the demesne meant a swift death to summon, or sheer annoyance from effects (not to mention taking twice as long to move around).

I'd much rather see mages/druids get an entirely new focus than continue having to deal with either side of demesning.

I had alot of fun playing as a Seer on Avalon so many years ago. I wish there is something similar for Lusternia. Or at least use some of the design concepts for demesnes here. pray.gif

Thing is. While guard duty is boring... someone's got to do it. I prefer to have demesne watch on and wander around prime doing stuff than sitting in Angkrag all day long just waiting for Serenwilde to raid for miners (as I no doubt would be if I didn't have a demesne).
Ashteru2005-11-23 14:09:12
Actually, I like demesnes...<.< Sure, it got downgraded pretty harsh since protection scrolls, and guard duty can be boring, but...well. I don't really mind, as I said.

And damn, they don't hit every 10 seconds? O.o ...that's uncool.
And I can live pretty good without focus mind, for example. Or realitycheck.
Sure, I have my problems breaking demesnes, or fighting warriors since I only have trueshield in combat...but it still is a lot of fun.
Anumi2005-11-23 14:48:16
I always had decent fun as a mage, though it seems like some things have changed making it slightly less fun. Mostly the druid trees thing, seems silly that you can break a mage demesne by sneezing at it but you have to whip out your axe and play Paul Bunyon to get through a druid demesne.

Did they change it to where you have to be inside your demesne to see people coming and going on watch? I never found it that tedious to do guard duty because you just have to be on the same plane, but they might've changed this.

How'd that work, for us non-Avalon players?

That's great, for a prime demesne. Try guarding Ethereal, and that same plane restriction is enough to seriously hamper any fun.
Anumi2005-11-24 14:20:06
Yeah, well. Ethereal wins the "lamest part of the game, evar" award already anyway. I did most of my time as a geomancer, and never got stuck on ethereal duty when I was a Blacktalon so, lucky lucky me.

I honestly think that demesnes need to begone entirely.

It sucks how all combat turns into a demesne, holding terrain war where its just camp camp camp camp......bring on the effects becoming vibes....and you can taint the ground to have your vibes hit harder or faster but they only follow you around.

But vibes would make us.. Achaea. And we are better than Achaea. smile.gif

.. Only half kidding. tongue.gif

Yeah, I'm sick of demesnes, I've considered going Celestine more than once so I wouldn't have to rely on them...
Murphy2005-11-24 15:12:58
I know demesnes are original, but original isn't always the best....perhaps find another way to use them but the whole thing about one class being so much more vital than another in groups is absurd...I mean 2 mages make much more of a diference than 2 warrior of campable basassness do....

Personally, I'm over demesnes being so important, and i'm also over group fights taking so damn long because you have to negotiate a damn demesne, or one side waits the other out in a blinking contest......I want action not camping, if i wanted camping i'd go pitch a damn tent
Asarnil2005-11-24 15:38:50
Murphy, a mage is worth more than two warriors twice his might - even with my lesson loss from going mage im at least twice more valuable to Magnagora than when I was a warrior, and Asarnil was tri-trans as an ur'guard - he isn't even trans a single skill as a mage.

I've considered going paladin for the same reasons. But then I remember that going from gr15 to gr1 would be depressing. Not to mention that it costs more to be a paladin. And the lesson loss doh.gif

Eh, Going from GM to gr1 wasn't as bad as you'd think. Maybe because I rarely used most of the guild privs.
Ashteru2005-11-24 21:41:05
I love my demesne. Only thing I hate is that if I am jumped, I can't fight back like a guard/wiccan/warrior. I'd have to set up a demesne and all..so I can't really be bothered, that's the reason I pray a lot. biggrin.gif

I love the rest of Druid skills and role - it's just that I wish we could choose something other than demesne combat.

Just let Mages/Druids forget the Elementalism specializiation and Druidism and let them get two of their secondary skillsets. Telekinesi/Dreamweaving/Illusions!

Its more the respect then the privs. Gr15 or admin Acrune would get to do/say/order where a gr1 person would not. When I used my paladin alt, it was all I could do not to order people to do stuff. Would look kind of weird having a recently graduated paladin leading a resistance.
