XBox 360 or PS3

The problem with XBOX 360's backwards compatibility is that for it to play any old XBOX games an emulator built specifically for that game will need to be downloaded to the hard drive from XBOX Live to emulate the XBOX chipset. This means that XBOX will be able to pick and choose which games will have an emulator created for them and which will not. The XBOX 360 did not come with the hardcoded chipset for the XBOX. This is why its price was so much lower than what it could have been. PS3 will hold chipsets for PS3 plus PS2 and PS1 so that they will be fully backwards compatible unlike the 360. I had to go to stupid training on the 360 for Best Buy and this is what I got outta it.

The biggest draw for me, for PS2, was backwards compatability, lack of RPGs on other consoles, and Final Fantasy.

Only thing to ever make me want an Xbox was Halo/Halo 2, and if I really want it that bad, I can grab it for PC or go to a friend's house.

Gamecube I'm liking the best of the three. Nintendo hardware is durable as hell, and I know they will have classic games I will buy, and will love. Zelda, Metroid, SSB, Mario Kart... if those were the only 4 games ever released for 'cube, I'd still buy one.

Currently, I'm probably going to grab a Revolution first. Nintendo is always solid, with hardware and software, and they don't play as much towards the "better graphics + same old crap = good!" I'd much, much, MUCH rather have more/better gameplay, and the PS1 graphics, then OMGWTF graphics, and the same old gameplay from forever ago. Not saying that's going to be the case, but Nintendo is more likely to provide that.

And really, PS1, and PS2 especially just strike me as frail hardware. My PS2 is already acting up, and my PS1 was trash by the time I got a PS2. If the PS3 is anything like it, I'm going to be annoyed if I end up with one.

Microsoft might just loose this battle cause of the lack of backwards compatability.

I'm going to laugh when the PS3's compatability works like the 360's, where they have to manually add them all.
Unknown2005-11-24 09:14:06
As if the original XBox had good games. ninja.gif

PS3's hardware seems like it'll be solid for the future (Well, they all seem fairly decent), but unless the developers are working hard it won't matter at all. Unless Xbox gets some developers under its wing then I doubt it'll fly well (Which is why they're marketing hard in Japan this time).

Since Sony has the most developers I think they'll do well despite costs, but with Xbox having Mistwalker, getting Final Fantasy 11 (Which means they'll be getting any game released on PlayOnline in the future, and may open up more Square-Enix games), and possibly other cool developers it might be a good contest this time around. With all the exclusives they're getting in the future maybe I'll have to buy one... wacko.gif

Everyone's buying a Revolution though, despite their hatred for the other systems. You can't beat free, legal roms from NES to N64, which may also mean releases of games that didn't see American shores at first as long as the companies are willing to translate a script.

There are already reported issues with the XBOX crashing constantly for some users. I read a post somewhere where a guy couldn't get through the first lap of a racing game. Should be interesting to see what other issues pop up with the system. I'm glad Sony didn't rush the PS3 now.

No, they will not. This is NOT an issue. At all.

Compatibility list

Above is a link to all the games that will work on the xbox 360. And more are being added. You can download off of xbox live, you can download on your computer and burn onto a cd, or you can order a cd from microsoft for a small charge, the required program to play any game on that list.

Is anyone else not arsed? £300 odd and the games will probably suck ass. Where's my SNES...

You had to go to training? Cool, I was thinking they might just hand everyone a pamphlet or something and throw you to the wolves.

Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars is still the best game ever made. It's got revolutionary graphics (for the SNES) and was/is one of the most fun games ever.
Lisaera2005-11-25 02:00:51
PS3 will suck as a console but get a massive library of good games.

XBOX 360 will be a decent console, and get decent games, but few truly good ones. The only thing outstanding about it is full and universal multiplayer support.

Nintendo Revolution will be an innovative and well-designed console, but will have very few even decent games, a small library overall and generally they'll all get pushed onto the back shelves.

Boy, if I had replaced those names with PS2, XBOX and GameCube I could have said the exact same thing a few years back. They never learn.
Simimi2005-11-25 02:18:38
Just curious, why do you have the opinion it will suck as a console, for the PS3.
Better yet, why do you have those said opinions, I'm curious.

No way in hell.

That game was good, but not the best, definitely.

Too short, for one thing.

Well, it's actually interesting because Microsoft and Sony seem to have their philosophies in reverse to what they should be. Sony are ramping up the prices of all the PS3 hardware to make up for the fact that it's costing them an arm and a leg to put in a load of hardware features that nobody wants, and a processor chip that is unnecessary. Sony are mass-producing like crazy, they'll have far more PS3s available at launch than either Microsoft or Nintendo with their respective consoles at their launch times, but each one will cost a lot more.

This is totally unnecessary, and here's why - Sony don't need to make a profit on the consoles. They are pretty much guaranteed to have an awesome library of games, as I said, sso they can easily make their money back from that. Microsoft, on the other hand, are pumping out a load of 360s at much lower prices, especially the ones without the hard drive, expecting to make their money back on the games. This is MUCH less likely to happen, because Microsoft do not have many good connections with developers, and as I've said, their library will probably be decent but not extraordinary, just like with the original XBOX.

Speaking of memory, I'd still like to know how Sony can claim they're going to be the leaders technically when they still have pretty pitiful amounts of RAM going into the PS3 at this time. I can only hope they decide to replace that with much higher levels before release, otherwise it's going to be a major failing (especially considering PS3 memory is much more expensive than XBOX memory).

Personally, I badly want to play a melee combat game on the Revolution. Imagine actually swinging the controller around to act as your sword/staff/amputated limb. That's just awesome.

For the SNES, can any game compare? Besides maybe the Final Fantasies. But it's still hella fun, I've played it through like 10 times now biggrin.gif.
Simimi2005-11-25 03:07:43
Yes, Illusion of Gaia and Secret of Mana are the best SNES games, if not the best then better than Mario RPG For Sure!
and Thanks Lisaera for explaining your opinions to me.
I am still miffed that I actually got the HDD and network adaptor for Ps2...and...it is sitting here.. not getting used... They could have done so much with it and didn't! I just hope they don't neglect the Ps3 that way.

CT, FF5-6, ToP, SD3...tongue.gif

EDIT: Illusion of Gaia? That SUCKED. blink.gif

Agreed. IoG was mediocre, Tales of Phantasia blows it out of the water. Seiken Densetsu 2/3 are simply awesome.
