Catacombs

Back to Common Grounds.

I can take a gorgog without sipping (or nymph) if I wax a bit, and I'm weak to fire and without robes. Gorgogs aren't hard. Pretty sure I could handle 2 aggro 'gogs, though I would have to run from 3. That might change though when I replace my robes and get a fireproofed cloak.

Hmmm....I always thought they usually did magic damage except with their fire attack.

Nymph, sprite, mother is the best bashing combination ever, i mean nymph and sprite are enough by themselves to keep me alive, though i used when i was a moondancer, walk through the moors without sipping even on the named mobs, since they were just so good.

All i know is gorgogs have their pestilent breathe one, their melting hand punching one which turns their hand into steam or something, which hurts me ALOT, damn mugwumpi and our flamability warnings, their normal punch, and they can breathe fire.

Gorgogs, I can kill if I run after every 2 hits. Two of their nastiest blows take me out if I'm not careful.

In the cats, I was able to kill the Gars one on one with occasional running from attacks that lob off over 1k on me (I think it was the garwights that did it) and can deal with 3 with some free running room at around L60. I might go back and try it again: I like the thrill and I attract less demigods hunting for kills than I do on Astral.

edit: garwights! That's what I was thinking of.

The Catacombs cannot be compared to any other area. Furthermore, it is difficult to even talk about the "Catacombs" as a whole because each level is so different. The top level of the Catacombs has about the same degree of difficult (for me) as the bottom level although the combinations are different. I avoid the middle level. It just isn't worth the hassle:

The top level hosts garskulls and garshades with 1 garghoul at each lever (who is stationary). The garskulls are relatively easy to kill (and that's good because you may end up fighting 2-4 at a time). They appear to do just physical damage with an attack that can knock prone and knock off balance (although not at the same time).

The garshades, however, are ridiculous. They have a leech attack (cold based) that cures them and deals massive damage. They also have a paralyse/freeze attack; a knock-off-balance attack; and a physical damage attack. They can take FOREVER to kill (I had one literally last around 20 minutes... the only reason I kept trying to kill it was just to test). They also are always in near another garshade. The best way to kill them is with a non-weapon attack (moonburst, nightkiss, cudgel, staff, radiance, etc).

The second level is various sections of garshades, garshades, garshades and maybe a garghoul here and there. At each lever is a stationary garghast (*note* garghasts are the only nasty in the Catacombs that will chase... and while not as annoying as garshades, they blackout 50% of the time, which makes them quite dangerous versus large groups). I usually don't bother with this level because the garshades are in groups so you normally spend a lot of time waiting for them to split up.

The third level is the best to bash. It has a mixture of garwights (massive freeze attack like garshades but no leech attack), garghasts (can blackout, paralyse, burn, heavy physical damage), and garghouls (charbydon-like venom, mediocre physical damage, off-balance attack). There are NO garshades on this level! However, everything is mobile and can potentially swarm in on you if you aren't careful. Observe in Discernment is quite nice here.

Fluffy Kittens of Doom shall wreak havoc upon your pitiful garshades!

The only times I've ever successfully bashed the Catacombs were all on the bottom floor (using spores to get in). On the top, the garshades slaughter me because they just don't die, but I can survive the bottom if I'm careful about the monster groupings.
