Mainland Mandarin actually has different grammar from what passes for Mandarin in Singapore. Note I am nat saying you are wrong, my Mandarin is worse than any of yours, and my Hokkien not much better. But from my friends from Mainland China, they have said that the grammar in Singapore is much mroe simlpistic, most likely due to the fact that Mandarin isn't most Chinese Singaporeans first Dialect, and the combination of most people speaking 1 or 2 Dialects of chinese plus Malay and maybe a bit of Tamil, and then of course the wonders of Singlish (I love Singlish so much) probably makes for it being a bit of a unique version of Mandarin.

And yes I do know where Singapore is, I used to live there. (Yishun to be precise)

Alyssandra is correct - my (limited) mandarin was learned from a teacher who was from mainland China, not Singapore. (And yes, she did warn me as well about other dialects and how they were 'different', to say it in a polite way.)

It would likely have looked better if I could use the actual symbols I wanted, instead of pinyin, but what are you going to do?

Well, I've started learning Japanese, and am enjoying it so far. Seems easier than Chinese, to write at least.

heheheh, i have a friend who has a really really heavy castillano accent, and even though i can understand them fairly well, it's really annoying to listen to.
i like the argentinean accents, though, those are real easy to understand to me.
same happends in portuguese, too, i hear. the portugual is so small in comparison to brazil but it's considered standard portuguese...

oh, i thought you were saying you couldn't understand my chinese because it was badly written! hmm, i wonder if chinese is supported by lusternia forums? well, i'll test it now, since i think it's much easier to converse in written chinese rather than written pinyin.

Hmm, yeah, the Chinese over there is slightly different here. Even in Malaysia, you can hear a slight bit of difference. It hadn't occured to me until I remembered that we would have different teachers. The accents of any Chinese speaking nation is also different from another, like with Spanish.

I miss our old Singaporean now. Should bother Summer on MSN sometime.
