Limited is Sealed/Draft i.e it tests you skill at building decks from a limited card pool, and in a limited amount of time.
Ashteru2005-12-19 13:22:54
Ah....I'd suck, I know it. My combos were usually always too complicated when we did that.biggrin.gif
Unknown2005-12-19 13:27:03
Basically I will play anything that is fun. Unfortunately with most people Constructed of any type other than Casual/Variant does not fit this description. People seem to get far too wound up, and play far too seriously.

Oh look I won in 2 turns....wow that was a really fun game....not!

I was just at someone's house and was playing the offical magic game against the computer only (its some sort of demo, not sure if you can play against other people or not. It has all the pictures and fun stuff) Anyway, the Green Dragon deck they made is beyond awesome, I keep killing every other deck with it.

You should see if you can use that. It keeps track of the rules better (so people might actually suffer from mana burn). The deck I'm talking about basically consists of Living artifact, Hurricane, Earthquake, Fireball, Inferno, Stream of life, Some 2/2 artifact creature statue that when it dies gives you two life, sol ring, healing salves and Wrath of god. Thats all thats in the deck. For lands, it has basic lands, and then those artifact amulents that cost 0... its just amazing for a non cheap deck.

I've never had the cash to set up good combo decks, so I never bothered with it. I always was fond of a nice life draining rush with black (no good in multi), pure and simple. Then again, a lot of the cards I played with are considered overpowered now tongue.gif.
Sylphas2005-12-19 13:31:36
I dunno, I just like that in constructed of any sort, I'm playing a deck. It is made to do something, and doesn't have random crap. In limited, I'm just playing a stack of cards, and doing my best to milk as much as I can out of them. I'd much rather play a mediocre constructed deck than a limited deck that happened to open jitte and some ninjas.

See, with me, in limited, it's more skill on the spur of the moment than skill in making something before the game actually starts. It's far more exciting on that basis. And there's also what Alyss said. PLUS drafting is -great-. I can't explain that one though.

I quit a year or two ago. But of course the set i had the most fun playing were the urza block and Odssey blocks they were best. I would still be playing if it did not cost so damn much to play. cards, tournaments, gas for big tournies like state and censor.gif, then more cards every year or so...

EDIT: Watch your language. ~Shiri~

Advantage of netdraft and apprentice: completely free.

Disadvantage: free constructed = instant insane card pools hardly anyone can afford IRL. tongue.gif

(Another reason limited is better, IMO. halo.gif)

Anyway, if a given person can host for netdraft or just wants to play sealed, I'm available to play at any time from midnight to 4PM basically, any kind of limited. IM me. happy.gif
Rauros2005-12-19 15:51:39
If youre worried about insane card pools, I suggest limited any constructed play to more recent sets (I would say anything from Urza on woul dbe balanced.) Type 1.X is a good format, as it bans the early sets, while still allowing a pretty large number of cards to make a deck with. You get all sorts of decks in this format.

Well, even extended can be pretty insane as far as I'm concerned, new things like ichorid etc.. I know the theory, and I can play with other constructed decks (albeit not that well) but pooling together the infinite resources given to come up with something with synergy and the rest of it is just a little beyond me. sleep.gif 1.X (Isn't that called Legacy now?) is far too wide.

And Urza is not balanced. tongue.gif

Type 1.5 is what became Extended, except they then changed extended, so orignal 1.5 is more like Legacy but not. if that makes any sense.

Vintage - Nothing is banned (excluding the universal bans i.e. Manual Dexterity - Falling Star, Chaos Orb And Ante Cards - Jeweled Bird, Demonic Attorney etc.) Has a sanity restricted list. So most broken cards - Black Lotus, Memory Jar, Necropotence, Strip Mine(incidently the only card banned in Peasant Magic) are restricted.

Legacy - Everything restricted in Vintage is banned in Legacy plus a few others like Skull Clamp.

Extended - 6 Block rotating cycle and whichever editions that 6 blocks spans. Currently Invasion, Odyssey, Onslaught, Mirrodin, Kamigawa, Ravnica plus 7th, 8th and 9th. Ban list is Aether Vial, Disciple of the Vault, Entomb, Skullclamp.

Standard - 2 Block rotating cycle and the current edition. Currently Kamigawa and Ravnica plu 9th Edition - Nothing Banned at the moment.

Block - 1 Block, current sanctioned blocks are Ice Age, Mirage, Tempest, Urza, Masques, Invasion, Odyssey, Onslaught, Mirrodin, Kamigawa and Ravnica. Ban list varies by Block - coincidently the block with the most Banned Cards is Urza (*shock horror*).

Sylphas2005-12-19 18:21:16
Do they still have that thing where you can mail them a banned card and get a free booster? Fluctuator traded for Argothian Wurm and other cards. Made me quite happy.

Is there an ignore thread button? glare.gif
Shiri2005-12-20 02:54:16
Just beat Diamante in Kamigawa sealed, despite a well-timed Hokori, Dust Drinker and the red and white shrines.

Lucky I had three ninjas and a horobi's whisper. sleep.gif
Sylphas2005-12-20 06:46:48
Still can't beat the sealed pack I had with 3 ninjas and a jitte. tongue.gif

Too bad I accidentally hit generate. sad.gif

I'm currently working on a nifty Spirit tribal deck with Tallowisp and auras. It's looking neat. Anyone up for a game of Tribal Wars?
