Glare is probably the best limited bomb in Ravnica block. I can't think of anything I'd rather open.
Shiri2006-02-01 06:57:45
Yea, turns out the deck sucks though, I'm trying (at Melanchthon's urging) a GBU combination with the pool I have there. I just really wanted to use that damn glare. Grr. dry.gif

Here's what I'm running with mine (not on MTGO, of course). Notice how it's almost entirely creatures, with some removal and utility to back them up. It's kicking ass so far (it really should, since it's just the nearest thing to the world champion I can build so far).

4 Llanowar Elves
4 Wood Elves
2 Loxodon Hierarch

How is that leyline working out for you? I'm definitely running both void and lifeforce in sideboard for my B/G deck, but roughly what proportion of the time do you have to hardcast it?

(And get MTGO, damnit, you've had your week! And get on MSN!)
Sylphas2006-02-01 18:56:22
I've got one, and I've only had it since the prerelease. I've never actually cast it. I really should probably drop it, since it's pretty much a 'win more' card. If you're going to run leyline, you should run 4 so you have the best chance of starting with it. Hard cast, Glorious Anthem is much better.
Laysus2006-02-01 23:05:55
Old cards are so much better >.>

/me <3s his pestilence deck.

Even if it has only worked as it's supposed to on one occasion.
The other time it ended up doing drain life for 18 and killing, or winning through natural milling >.>

I was thinking more of the odds of actually getting it in play before the game, since hardcasting leyline of the void and leyline of lifeforce is fairly inefficient against graveyard recursion and counterburn respectively. >_<

EDIT: The GBU version, in practice, works out much better. I love lurking informant.
Sylphas2006-02-02 18:52:16
Update: Played about 5 games last night, began two of them with Leyline. Totally isn't worth it, though, since having it in play from the beginning doesn't help me, because tokens in my deck are 4cc anyway, and Glorious Anthem is a far better addition to the deck.

Also, played a few team games, which are infinitely more fun than FFA multiplayer games. Especially when you do an FFA with one person running a defensive life gain deck. I was hitting him for 15-20 each turn, and he was gaining faster than that. Then he brought out Glacial Chasm and some artifact that skipped his upkeep, and we pretty much all conceded. sad.gif
Laysus2006-02-03 02:30:02
Generals/emperor is always fun.
Shiri2006-02-03 14:30:43
Emperor sucks online though, since everyone plays that version where spell effect is limited by spell range so it's the SAME GODDAMN GAME EVERY TIME.

You know, the one with twiddle, stacked wild growths, then a giant new frontiers, weird harvest, myojin of life's web, hunted wumpus, mass hysteria, and the generals with darksteel collossi.

Makes me want to explode, grr. angry.gif

I like 2HG myself - Narsrim and I and Melanchthon and I sometimes do pretty well at it, although Melanchthon insists on playing freak decks like creatureless arcane splice and R/W creatureless burn...

Narsrim just plays those evil U/B control decks, so my little monsters happily get through and beat on things without much trouble. I'm liking nightmare void in multiplayer now, though I suspect it will be less useful except as a sideboard card in duels. (Yes, Sylphas, I know about cry of contrition, but it's not out on MTGO yet. angry.gif)

EDIT: Teams is better than FFA, yeah. And from memory the upkeep artie is eon hub. FD rare.
Laysus2006-02-03 19:00:37
Mmm, time to add in orzhov to my pestilence deck >.>

Yay debtors knell.

Also, milling is best for 2HG, and U/B control sucks tongue.gif
Shiri2006-02-04 01:10:16
No, U/B control really doesn't suck in 2HG, you have no idea how useful counterspells are in team events. (I'm not convinced mana leak is worth it though. dry.gif)
Sylphas2006-02-04 01:51:39
Mana leak is better in duels, which tend to be shorter. If you can afford 3 extra mana, you might want to take a look at your curve.
Shiri2006-02-04 01:58:52
I can't afford the 3 extra mana, but with the MASSIVE amount of STEve and reach running around Narsrim's opponents often can...not sure what else he could use for counters in T2 but.

EDIT: Maybe rewind, but that pushes his curve up even further.
Sylphas2006-02-04 06:51:09
Rewind can get pretty retarded, especially with the bouncelands giving two mana each. You can pretty easily pay 4 for Rewind, and untap 8 mana.

Hey...forgot about that!
Shiri2006-03-06 16:18:42
I know nobody really cares...but I won my first ever RRG draft tonight! (Second one I'd ever played...got stomped in the first by some horrible tempo-monster thing with frenzied goblin, ogre savant, repeal, boros guildmage, and petrahydrox. losewings.gif) I started out GW with B splash, but then figured out I was getting passed tonnes of good black - I ended up with a gasp, two rotwurms and two strands, as well as a thoughtpicker and some other nice stuff so I ended up in G/B with a white splash for absolver thrull, lionheart maverick (don't laugh, you'd be surprised) and one other thing I can't remember.

Won four boosters, and gave two and the deck back to Diamante (since he'd paid to get me the boosters to play in the first place...I ended up beating him round 1 in fact, the first game due to lurking informant-induced mana screw (he went like 14 turns without a white source thanks to several lurking informant interventions - 5 plains and a selesnya signet in the bin biggrin.gif) and the second time due to natural mana screw) except for a few commons I kept (compulsive research for my new crap rare deck: earth surge + siege of towers + terraofmrer) and the rares I need to give him back later. (U/B leylines.)
Sylphas2006-03-06 17:59:22
I need help tweaking a standard Heartbeat deck, and Shiri ran off before I could corner him. sad.gif
