I have a question about the Soullless, are they mindless beings of destructions or do they have sentient intelligence?
Shiri2005-11-26 12:29:37
Latter. At least, Kethuru spoke coherently.

I would say they all had intelligence, based on the histories. Kethuru just happened to consume more than the rest from what I understand.

Actually it's debatable if Kethuru the orgininal form was intelligent or not, because i mean, he did consume the most elder gods, and most probably absorbed their essence, meaning he would gain abilities from them. I could be wrong, but we can always rely on our lovely gods and godess' because you know, most of them were there at the start, so i assume they would know.

I believe Tenqual has the right of it. The Soulless gods, initially, were nothing more than beasts built out of nothing, and lacking a soul, they had an empty Void they sought to fill, and fill it they did - by devouring. I imagine Kethuru has absorbed much essence of the Elder Gods, and from them learned to speak.

On top of that, I imagine speech between them is not a difficult thing - Dracnoris spoke of a telepathic bond of sorts between him and one of the Soulless, one He was created alongside. I imagine things like communincation may have been made inherent among the Primal Gods and the Elder Gods - like how wolves have a pack mentality, and work together. I imagine it's similiar.

Also, Kethuru had control of Viravain. I imagine He also had access to Her thought processes, etc.

I agree with YoLF, but have a small amendation to suggest. It could be that all of the Gods, Soulless and Elder, were given the ability to communicate with every being. So, Kethuru might not have been thinking in or even speaking in any mortal language, but His meaning was translated.
Unknown2005-11-26 22:32:26
Well actually i doubt the souless had intelligence, they were just there to destroy what was created, if they had intelligence they may have revolted or chose not to destroy. Once they had begun to consume intelligent life forms they absorbed their knowledge thus learning how to communicate and do something besides just eat.
Unknown2005-11-26 23:27:07
Er, Tenqual, they never did that. All they do is eat. It is all the Soulless have ever wanted to do. I imagine they have always had some sort of dim intellect, Kethuru more than the others. Remember in the Vernal histories, one of the Soulless enslaved all of the Aslaran? That leads me to believe they are all capable of thinking and, to some degree, feeling emotion.
Unknown2005-11-27 00:00:17
Also that souless, had consumed a few elder gods by then, which would have given him intelligence enough to think to enslave the aslaran race. I mean, he could have eaten the most intelligent elder and gained an insight to that.

You know you contradicted yourself by saying, "All they do is eat." and "one of the Soulless enslaved all of the Aslaran". Seem's to me that they dont just eat. tongue.gif
Unknown2005-11-27 00:08:53
Meh, let's just say that eating is their ultimate goal, then. I imagine He enslaved the Aslaran and forced them to either work at gathering beings for Him to consume, to fight the mortal races that opposed Him, or just to screw with them before digging in.

Have you ever looked at the cold gaze in a bull shark's eyes from a few feet away, when you can tell it's hungry? There's nothing stupid about them. They're very smart creatures.

Soulless = Bulls and Great Whites of Creation. Elder Gods = Massive Schools of Fish, and Mortals = individual fish.

I don't know how Fain could have made a pact with "weaker soulless" if the soulless were just mindles beings. In the History of the Elder Wars Draconis clearly states what it means to be soulless or not.

Best to look it up in game though.
