Those of you who are horrified by Cosmicfire, have you bothered to try it with quickening?
Where i'm from theres a skill using the same exact code doing the same exact thing, that turns an average bashing class into one of the best. Swiftcurse anyone?
I havent put it to practical use, it just popped into my head earlier, so..whats the problem with it? Cosmicfire is slightly less powerful than the other two starter bashing skills, and improves with planar. Quickening makes it double as effective and turns it into a barrage of pain for about 10 seconds, most things will die before it's over. To be honest i cant see the problem.
Edit: Oo! i noticed the problem, it costs 3 power.

Well, if the powercost was lowered to 2...it would be a bit better, I'd imagine.
Munsia2005-11-27 15:12:44
Thats not bad.. well kinda is. depends what your bashing though. Like I use 8 power and use my medicinebag and not my vials to heal with while bashing
Unknown2005-11-27 15:26:57
1. Most things will -not- die before it's over.
2. Power. It would waste 9 power for, let's say, a gorgog well, depends on speed, int, and luck with criticals), and considering you need to recover from abjuring quickening, I'm not so sure it would be that faster anyway.
Munsia, for how long does that medicine bag last though. We're talking about using 9-12 power for one mob here.

Torak2005-11-27 15:27:35
Quickening doesn't last long, it has long equil and generally its a waste of power (3) for just bashing. I use it in pvp though..
Sudoxe2005-11-27 15:39:41
2 power quickening would be great. As it is, the best I could do as a human was: quicken, cosmic, cosmic, cosmic - which is essentially paying 3 power for an extra half cosmicfire damage over the 12 seconds this occurs, as oppose to 3 cosmicfires over 15 seconds without quickening.
The bonus only comes when you quickening off the last quickening:
Quicken, cosmic, cosmic, quicken, cosmic, cosmic, quicken, cosmic, cosmic, cosmic, cosmic - not enough power to quicken or do anything of worth, but you've done 8 cosmicfires in the time you would have done 5.
I think the timing was about the same with amissio and leech also. Hell, with a two power quickening, Nihilists might actually start using wrack:
quick/amissio/amissiox3 then wrack, all while the demon is using shackles.

(see:wytchen bashing)
Most average mobs, average sewer mobs that is (the staple bashing mob back there) will die after a round of swiftcurse, if not two. Really it's pointless to say "that wouldnt work out better at all" if there wasnt a power cost, it would, the equilibrium on it isnt that long, and like i said it's one of the most powerful bashing skills in Imperian, the difference being there is no power to worry about, just a heck of a lot of mana if you spam it.
Soulwash has around about the same eq:

Theres no doubt about it, that if this didnt cost 3p, it'd be invaluable. I know from experience, in theory it's an amazingly handy skill and if it doesnt kill said mob, it will outdamage it to the point of "nearly dead" before it has the chance to hurt you too badly, giving you the upper hand and lessening the chance of dying.
Munsia2005-11-27 15:59:38
You need to test cosmic fire since I think it has a different timing doesnt it?
Sudoxe2005-11-27 16:00:07
Looks like soulwash is 3 seconds, cosmicfire 4, and quickening 4 seconds, with no speed bonuses. Glad to see it's sped up, but still, cosmicfire+quickening is no bleed+swiftcurse.

Hrm, it doesnt seem to have the same shockingly fast edge, but you have to remember Bleed is based on balance, and generally Ssylsin with level two balance make it fearsome. I'm not sure if balance bonuses outweigh equilibrium bonuses, but take into account what race you are.

Theory is great, actually applying it is a completely different story. For bashing, as I said before Quickening is a waste of power/time. You may kill that one mob faster, but thats 3 power. Pvp wise I used quickening alot.

What i said wasnt based on theory, it was based on the same skill in another game, on the basis that quickening didnt use power like it's counterpart, which i have used regularly and found to be massively helpful. I personally couldnt think of a way to slip it into PVP without leaving a huge opening in your offense and getting smacked, but i'm no good at PVP here yet so eh.
Torak2005-11-27 17:13:25
If you can stick aeon and stupidity, or something like that mostly they don't have time to react. I have found it great.
EDIT: Plus you have to factor in your demon/angel is hindering and you can have afflictions going off regularily (IE Setup for Inquisition).

We're not wytchen, we're nihilists. It's Lusternia, not another game.
Not everyone wants to be a mugwump.
I need about 10 hits (not counting criticals) to kill a gorgog or an astral creature, we don't hunt "average" sewer creatures, really. (Well now with Astral dead, who knows).
And the fact it does cost power nullifies the whole argument anyway.
And what Torak said, used wisely it can be very valueable in PvP (not easy to do though).

Why the denial? "omgz no how can we be compared to Imperian..deny deny!!", they're both IRE games, go and see for yourself how the skill works, give me one reason why it isnt identical given all variables except power, and i'll concede. It's not an argument, and it's perfectly normal to imagine how things would be if X was different or Y was changed, it's not 'nullified', you cant nullify a discussion.
And well, again with the condescending snooty "we dont hunt "average" sewer creatures, we're better than that". You do, they're just called Planar creatures instead.

Why the outrage? I also compare the games sometimes, but claiming it's the same thing is false.
I don't want to indulge in that, but even without going there, all stats are cut by 10, here's your difference.
Ok so I understand sewer creatures are the toughest creatures used for bashing in Imperian, just like Astral creatures in here. If you kill them with one "swiftcurse", you must deal more damage than us or those mobs are weaker. In your first post you said cosmicfire is slightly worse but improves along with learning related skills. But other basic damage skills do as well, so it's still weaker at the end and, what's more important, almost every guild gets another, a lot better one (warriors don't but they can get comparable damage just with good weapons). That's also a fact that you seem to forget about in that evaluation.
EDIT: Oh, and, I meant argument as a point you're trying to make about using quickening, not as a quarrel.

Quickening is fun to use in bashing astral, because the nodes keep your power up. Besides that, it's way too costly.
And in PK, it does so little damage it doesn't matter -how- fast you get it off. If you were to use it as a Mugwump and then whip off 4-5 cosmicfires in a row against a warrior, he would recover from it in one sip/sparkle.

It would however deal massive damage against a lich if you were using radiance and got 4-5 of them in with 20+ int.

Let's not exaggerate now, I believe 5 cosmicfires should deal close to 4k (at least for me, 14 int, related skills transed). That's not one sip+sparkle.
EDIT: 16 int, I was checking at night I think.
